I'm on him as well, don't use allies as it allows him to regain spirit when he beats the shit out of them. I can parry all of his attacks but get one shot if any of them hit me, I think I need to upgrade my armour and invest in a bit more tankyness. Going to use that spell that makes you more tanky and apparently hitting him with the cheap icebolt reduces his damage when he goes on fire.

I beat him last night. It took as long as I needed to memorise his attacks plus half a dozen goes to stop me getting greedy and settle for hit and run. It’s kind of unsatisfying because it is attritional but my tips would be be
Hold block more or less all the time Use the heal on damage spell before every grapple. It’s worth h at least one free heal Parry the arrows to gain poise back The low level ice bullet knocks him out of his fire mode Don’t get greedy. It will take ages
I know it sounds stupid but it’s not actually *that* hard. He’s very predictable and robotic, more so than any boss yet. He just hits hard and takes no damage.

Who ever decided to put "crushing defeat" on the screen after each death needs a slap.

This is definitely my favourite boss so far. All about staying on his ass. No bs, just a hard fair fight.

Is Lu Bu the boss of the snowy level? If so I'm nearly at him.
Actually thinking of just binning the allies off. They kind of ruin the experience for me now I think. I can't keep proper tabs of what's going on and I don't feel I can read enemy attacks properly because of those twats. I kept them in as the game kind of started like taht but I've had enough now I think.

Lu bu done. 15 or so attempts. As usual I had him one red parry away from victory about three or four times and each time I panicked! One was even on the easiest parry off all but I pressed it too soon!! I think I screamed like a psycho and then realised the delivery person was at the front door and could probably have heard my crazy.
My strat was go hard when on horse with lightening charged sword. If you pursue him you run under his arrows and got lots of free hits in. When he on foot I found keeping medium distance mainly kept him using bow or lunging attacks which were eaiser to parry than his 44 hit combos up close.
Long long battle though either way.

This is definitely my favourite boss so far. All about staying on his ass. No bs, just a hard fair fight. Just the opposite for me, exactly the type of lazy, formulaic boss design I can't stand, where you have to do exactly the right thing at the right time two dozen times. No strategy involved, just muscle memory, and a huge health bar to draw it out as long as possible. Oh, and a bullshit grapple attack with on overlong animation that takes half your health bar while you have exactly zero player agency. No, not my type of boss.

Haha I feel it's the type of boss that actually has zero bs. If you die it's your fault. Things like cleric beast in BB the camera kills you. Loved Lu bu and it took I guess 90 mins as each attempt takes ages and the only times I got angry was the three times I had victory in my grasp and I totally messed up the parries. All the other defeats I was immediately ready for the rematch. I did wish I read the above post properly first though so I would know about taking him out of his fire state! I did skim the post and noticed all the points except that one. Oh the only bs part of the fight is how sometimes the horse gets in the way when he is on foot.

I'll probably be singing a different tune once I reach Lu Bu (at least, if the above comments are implying he's more predictable) but for now the seemingly increased AI randomness is not exactly pleasing me... The bastard first boss took far too long to actually do anything that would deal meaningful spirit damage to him, which of course is pretty much the only way to charge your Divine Beast for the finisher... Some guides are all like "Oh once he's around half health your Divine Beast will be ready, use it to win." Well I got him to that point at my... third try, I think. Was the beast ready? Was it fuck! Cue ~2 more hours of head-bashing against both first and second phase (because it's not like his first phase was any more accommodating )

Co op is better in this than other souls games. No silly glowing character. No limitations on how much you can do together. No resources needed to actually do it. No level restrictions etc. Just invite friend and play together.

Does anyone quite understand what the "Memorial Tablet" does (which, I assume, everyone has in their inventory, with an infinite number of uses)?
"Using Memorial Tablet grants the following effect:
Negates the effect of all current vengeances when used. Enemies who have been strengthened due to vengeance will return to their original strength. Using this while vengeance is disabled will cause additional vengeance targets to appear. "

Makes it easier. You when enemies kill you they get stronger, this eliminates this.

Thanks, but that can't be quite it, can it? "Using this while vengeance is disabled will cause additional vengeance targets to appear" How would I disable vengeance in the first place? I suppose it has somethign to do with the multiplayer?

It also turns the purple graves off, I think. Its not just for someone who killed you but for everyone who is buffed from killing anyone, so you dont get anymore 'Avenged xxxSNipABoixxx' from killing tough enemies.
Risk/Reward again, I suppose. Easier enemies, less accolades.

I had a teleporting cheating near invincible invader yesterday. We managed to beat them still as there were two of us and the npc and used our guardian spirits etc but at first he took no damage for ages and was flying around. Unless it was 9000 ping as I thought it wasn't cross play and you generally don't get console cheats.

Lvl 50 now. Two levels after Lu bu and loving it still. My son is now stuck on Lu Lu so I'll have to get him through that but I'm impressed he can clear the level before him solo now.

The boss after lu bu is almost jarringly easy. I was expecting its second phase to be pretty traumatic but it just kind of melted. Also: the lightning dragon on that level if you have the cheap icicle spell equipped, you can stand under the last elevated hut in the maze and just cheese it to death. Its worth doing because there is an extra dragon pot hidden in that area and it makes it *much* easier to find

My son showed me how much fire sword also melts several bosses. Especially snake boss he showed me. The normal health bar melted like in a from game when you have a op weapon and he didn't need to worry about the spirit break.

They take saves and modify them on a pc.

Heads up for anyone that hasn't noticed, there's Nioh style titles (for killing X amount of enemies with Y weapon type, or killing X number of a certain type/faction of enemy and so on) somewhere in the menu. With rewards tied to them, of course.
Also, am I right in assuming that the "lifesteal on hit" effects are tied to how much damage the hit does? Should scale well as you progress if so.

What spirits are people using? Im finding all of their summons basically useless. The weapon coating is useful for countering bosses affinities, if the boss lets you actually attack it, but thats about it.

Yes, it gives you back a percentage of the hit and if you pile into the wood stat, the life steal on hit spell is much more effective. Im getting about 1/5 (maybe more) health bar back now from one grapple and a decent chunk from faster, lower damage hits.

I'm finding the lightening spirit amazing. Heals you to max and keeps you basically at max health for a decent amount of time so you can go ham on a boss.

I might try that one. The AI, like all the other AI characters, is fucking useless and the summon never actually seems to do anything.

Also pair that with the wood spell that increases the spirit regen speed and you get it more often.

I did the couple of sides before the snow mission last night and did a bit of the snow mission itself. No sidekicks this time. MUCH better. I know they are available should I want them but I'm much happier without.
