I wouldn't put it past some unscrupulous cunt like Kotick or Riccitiello to force developers to introduce a microtransaction to make skipping cutscenes an unlockable feature.

I also really dislike when you can't skip cutscenes on a first playthrough because it assumes I either haven't played it before on another format, or that I actually care.

Crouch button is also dialog skip.
Did that a lot in cyberpunk
Entered conversation crouched and then pressed crouch to get up but it skipped kool text.
You had to hold it instead to get up in conversation.

Sometimes I'd come back to the game after a long break, and I wouldn't want to skip it entirely, but I just needed a quick memory jog about what was happening, so I could just zip through it at high speed. And then if anything looked important I could always rewind back to it to check.

Not so much a mechanic but I hate forced cross play with PC on console multiplayer games, especially if you are playing the "ranked" mode

I'm moving around clicking the mouse, but dialogue is also skipped with simple clicking?!? Seems they didn't quite think that through.

Getting stuck in the environment. Dunno why games keep including it, it's a shit feature Kinda related. Bits of environment that you look like you should be able to get to/through/over/under but can't because there's an invisible wall. Even worse when it's a platforming section so the invisible wall means that instead of landing on that ledge you're now sliding down a wall to your doom. I've been playing Rage and it's full of stuff like that. They've created what looks like an expansive Fallout style world at first but any attempt to explore it ends in you hitting invisible walls or bits of rubble blocking your way very quickly
Also found in Rage, really obvious power generators that you need to find (usually by following the wires) and blow up to deactivate lasers/doors/defences. It's so rote and lazy and makes the enemy look completely inept in their security duties

I have to admit that I don't remember either. But it has been a while. I remember it as that open world game which obviously wasn't one. I guess I never expected it to leave me much freedom of movement. I had more of a problem with how static (in terms of physics) it was. But it ran damn well!

Multiple buttons to interact with stuff. Jedi Survivor for example you have R3 (which is a weird choice to begin with), or for other things it'll be down on the dpad, then to open up shortcuts it'll be X. Just pick one and stick with it FFS!

Which Y? The Microsoft one or the Nintendo one? MS. The top one. I think BotW uses the top button to jump as well though

I think Y is at the top on Switch, as it’s the jump button on Zelda, which I think is because that button was closer to the analog stick on Wii U.
Speaking of which, more controllers should have both sticks at the top. That was very comfy.

Mandatory boss rush sections - they're lazy, uncreative, and just plain boring.
If I wanted to fight all the bosses again with weapons/abilities to which I didn't have access first time around, that's what New Game Plus is for!

Thing is, for one NG+ will (should) make the bosses harder as well, so it won't give nearly as much of a power rush/catharsis, and for another a boss rush provides that in a much faster and more condensed manner than a full new playthrough... A badly executed boss rush (or in a game where your own abilities and/or the bosses remain the same between the first encounter and the rush) can feel like padding, true. I like the well-made ones though. Case in point, Nioh 2 has a short one in a lategame stage (with checkpoints interspersed, to be fair) whose bosses gave me trouble when first fighting them, especially a certain snake. It felt great tearing them a new one without having to go through their entire stages first

Quite often you can muddle your way through a boss fight without really learning it. Having a boss rush at the end forces you to have to master the game's bosses somewhat without being able to rely on heals or luck. Therefore they are a good thing (unless you just want to get to the end of the game and don't care about learning bosses properly - then they'd be annoying)

What's a boss rush?

It’s where you hastily encourage a boss to fight you before they’re emotionally or physically ready.

When you have to refight a game's bosses one after the other, usually without being able to heal up between fights
It's a staple of every Mega Man game

Super Mario Galaxy 2 has a boss rush stage that is exclusively bosses from the first game. And in one of those rushes I don’t think you can take a single hit of damage.

Boss Blitz Galaxy - Daredevil Comet, yeah. One of the bosses is Bouldergeist, at that. It was hard enough fighting that one alone under Daredevil in the first game, now add all the others...

JuniorFEIn fairness, I'm not sure I'd ever encountered a mandatory boss rush section before last night, when I started Mission 18 of Devil May Cry 3; accordingly, I can't say whether the part in question was implemented well or badly. All I know is that I wasn't a happy bunny! Perhaps the main issue here is that, while I think DMC3 is an excellent game overall, I don't much care for its boss fights - I don't feel that tough bosses are a good fit for a game that actively discourages you from using consumable items, and each such encounter has represented a difficulty spike that I've found to be more of a chore than a delight. Finding myself running a boss gauntlet was therefore somewhat irritating, although it wasn't quite as bad as I'd expected at first. Turns out you only need to beat three of the previous bosses, rather than all of them, although I wouldn't have known that without consulting a guide.

Ah, gotcha. I don't think I've played many things that do that, but a couple back in the mists of time.

I like the Extra Punctuation videos as he does bring up the bad game design. I really hate the slow walk and talk or slowly walk with some dumb NPC

LttP at least had only two of those, one of which is super short. In Ocarina they went completely overboard and it's just so fucking tiresome.
My post was triggered by Shantae and the Seven Sirens doing the same, there's a heart piece behind perfecting a boring shooting gallery minigame with no misses. Please developers, don't do that.

It can be I guess. But I hate it way more when people start randomly talking over each other or when dialogue is delivered while gameplay is going on. You often end up not being able to listen or missing half of it. It's really annoying when tutorials do that. Delivering info or narration and already moving on while you are still trying to get a good look at the UI or while you are trying the suggested thing.
