I hear Owen Wilson is set to play the role of James Sunderland. Every time he gets shocked he’ll follow it up with a trademarked “Wow” and then the word Wow, in a fancy text like a sticker, will spin onto the screen before slowly fading away. Also using the d-pad buttons will allow James to perform an amusing dance accompanied by licenced music from the likes of Chumbawumba and The Black Keys.

I saw quite a few guys so warped by porn over the years that they were furious Tifa in FF7 Remake didnt have J cup tits. The funniest to me was people saying Lady from DMC5 had a square masculine jaw. The person complaining then put up a photoshopped version of what thry think she should look like and her face literally looked like a triangle. And of course, the complaint that Nintendo America had censored Tokyo Mirage Sessions for the West by removing a characters "vagina bones" Don't forget Xenoblade Chronicles X removing the boob size slider from character creation in international releases. Or one of Fire Emblem Awakening's DLCs (the summer themed one) having an image of Tharja changed... in a way that actually made it more suggestive

What have japanese publishers changed to appease Western audiences that have been so detrimental to the soul of the game other than having less skeevy "clothes" on female characters? Every change is potentially detrimental. Since your position seems to be that things can be changed because it doesn't really matter, why should it be a problem if people want something faithful to the original?
If Silent Hill 2 doesn't matter or really mean anything to you, why not play a Friday Night at Freddy's game instead? It's Silent Hill 2 with just some changes after all.

You're right, FF7 Remake was definitely for the worst when they didn't make Tifa's breasts really big. But going back to my question which you didn't really answer, what things have Japanese publishers had to change to appease Western woke audiences?

it does sound FG has that italian MP that liked Tifa a bit too much
If anyone actually wants an example of Japanese game changed for western reasons, In the upcoming Like a dragon game the english v/o for the main role of Kiryu was changed from Darryl Kurylo (who just got the role back from doing the voice in the 1st game on ps2, sega stopped dubbing to save money) and they changed to this youtuber reactioner Yongyea (who bulilt his whole YT career on criticising developers & publishers (sometimes incredibly minors things) Its not like he is well known name off YT or actually good are doing v/o for main characters. Some in the west get angry when a white person does a voice over for non white character. I wouldn't of mind the change if they got someone who can do voice acting
Here is some of yongyea "singing" Silent Hill is about suffering, they should play his singing in silent hill

Ok, as awful as that is how was that an example of a game being changed for western reasons? Was there a petition or some outrage laden article about giving him the role?

Only recently found out he was the new voice actor, just had a quick google about loads of article white voice actors doing the voice of non white characters "some shite site calling one "The Insidious Racism of white actors..." Sega are just making a change as they know people will come for them at some point.
Also Yongyea is korean, bit racist of them to think Asian people are interchangeable?
Also also, its not just YY singing, the voice acting is really really bad, instead of the iconic silent hill siren maybe YY singing as the noise to change the world to the nightmare world

Do you have links to these articles you're quoting headlines from? I don't understand what you mean that Sega had to change their VA because "they're" coming for them. I mean I don't consume Yong Yea's content but surely like pretty much most regular VA he would have had to audition for the role and they chose him. Also the Japanese VA still remains and I'm sure most people who love the Yakuza series play it in Japanese. I'm still struggling to see how this was a ploy to appease Western audiences. I mean if you really want me to lay my cards on the table when I read or hear people talking about Japanese devs/publishers "being forced" to change their content for a Western audience buzzwords like woke and censorship always magically seem to appear and it ultimately ends in the person revealing that they were actually upset that they couldn't see tits. Tits on a video game character.

I have no idea if he had to audition or what the other people was like. The fact is the previous voice actor did a good job in the role for the last main LAD game and he didn't get picked. I don't know how anyone thought YY was the best for the role, its not like he is big name or experienced voice actor.
Oh, you keep going about tits again

So yeah, he's not a big name or anything and Sega chose him, because it's their choice for better or worse. I don't see a vision being compromised. I would still like to see someone give some actual evidence of Japanese devs having to compromise their vision without mentioning pervy shit.

I am open to the idea he knows someone at Sega and got the job that way as these YT influencers can be "chummy" for exclusive access to things. But there is movement to replace certain voice actors

By "movement" do you mean not automatically defaulting to a white person for a non white role?

You wrote what you wrote and it can be interpreted as a dog whistle when you talk about a movement and replacing but don't qualify those words. I'm not perfect by any means and if that wasn't your intention then fair enough but maybe be aware that kind of language can be inferred in a way you didn't mean especially in the current culture war climate of today.

To be fair, not changing the script to match the changes to the gravure section (a criticism of the predatory practises within it) to a normal cosplay thing made that section very odd and dissonant from the story themes. The bones removal and black holes (yeah, I do see how my choice of words looks here but what the hell) and slightly overengineered outfits to avoid cleavage were mostly fair enough (I do recall some looked worse than the originals) but the story changes were more bothersome. As for Silent Hill 2, I will remain dubious of quality until reviews prove me wrong. I too would like to see a remaster of SH1 though (a game that was actually censored in Europe from the US version IIRC, but not for sexual content)

TBF I remember og Resi 4 was censored in the UK compared to the US version that I had. It really was a different time.
In response to FF7, they changed a lot of the plot in general. Do you think that was due to Western pressure?

When I remember from the ps1 era the most was the FMV for resident evil

They changed the grey children in Midwich to different enemies from later in the game for Europe. American version was unchanged
I don't really get the Yakuza VA thing. Jumping to a lot of conclusions there. It doesn't sound like they changed any dialogue or anything. There's loads of examples of bad voice acting or roles going to different people for whatever reason. MGS dropped Hayter because Kojima felt like it. I'm not sure if the scene in that clip would be improved by better voice acting anyway
Was the TMS thing changed to cosplay due to censoring or to make it more relatable to western audiences? The latter is not the same as censoring, it's just a bad localisation
Agree that a lot of the time people are getting upset over censoring is when it's raising ages of characters, altering costumes (of young characters) or removing weird sexual scenes/minigames. I don't personally have a problem with it being done. Japan's attitude to some things is fucking weird, the world has changed and if they want things to be released and accepted in the mainstream, they need to catch up. Stop putting that stuff in games in the first place. I don't feel particularly strongly about protecting Japanese developer's rights to depict sexy children. It shouldn't need to be censored in the first place
If people feel that strongly about it, learn Japanese, import the games and play them 'as intended'. Any localisation is going to be different and make changes. Literally the point

I think there has been some effort made over the past few years to ensure that characters of colour are voiced by people of colour. Not as part of some 'woke crusade' or other - although I'm sure there are racists incels douchebags 'people' who want to portray it as such - but as part of a general movement towards better representation and wider inclusivity.
For me, the problem with Yong Yea and the new Yakuza games isn't Asian-washing (or whatever inane term 4chan has dreamed up) - it's that he doesn't seem like a good fit for the role.
Whether he won the part fair and square by auditioning for it, beating out other candidates in the process, or was handed the gig due to his status as an established YouTuber, I've no idea. I'm surprised that Sega and RGG couldn't find a better option, either way.

That's fine to think he's a bad fit, there are no issues with me there. I just didn't buy the idea that there was an "agenda" at play. It just leads to bad faith arguments but like I said before do people actually play the Yakuza games with English VO?

Actually people used the english voice over for the last main Like a dragon game. I used it for some of the game. the Japanese v/o is superior of course and gets new fans for the game (with a dub)
They didn't do English VO for ages due to budget

I don't believe anyone involved with the Yakuza recasting has confirmed whether or not race was a factor. It may have been, and it may not... but even if it was, I think 'agenda' would be way too sinister a word to use (unless you were arguing in bad faith from the get-go, as Jambo says).
Truth be told, I've never played a Yakuza game. I did play Persona 5 Royal and Strikers with English voices, which I found to be very good - JRPGs tend to be pretty wordy, and I wasn't keen on reading *that* many subtitles!

It depends entirely on the quality of the voice actors and production. The Persona games are generally very well done. There are even a few animes I prefered the English dubs for

Likea dragon/Yakuza 7 is a very long game with long cutscenes - even for the main path and it got a bit of pain reading that many subtitles. very much agree on that
