From what I remember the criticism was that Angela and Maria didn't look sexy enough. Apparently that's...woke. 🙄 Ffs I hate the internet sometimes. No wait. Most of the time.

Anyway. I’ve got the 90s filter on. Love it. Would personally do without the vignette but it’s cool.

Glad you like it, wunty. At most, I'll probably watch a Let's Play if someone good that I like does one but I can't be even remotely objective about this remake as I love the original too much and am too familiar with it (and hate Blooper) so it would make me physically sick to play it

You’re entitled not to play it but your reasons are weird. IT’S A WEIRD TAKE AA.

Ha. The "being physically sick" bit made me "hold up" a bit.

Are they though I just don't feel a remake is needed. The original holds up, still looks great and so much of the presentation is intrinsic to what I love about it. If it was a remake by the original team and they were able to do things they couldn't before, that'd be different. But it's just someone else's interpretation of it. And it's a dev I hate. You wouldn't play a remake by Hitler
@jambo that bit wasn't serious

I’d say a remake of a twenty odd year old game is pretty valid tbh. But we can all play what we want. That’s just the beauty of it all.

I just meant not needed for me personally. I am curious to see what they did with this or that scene and to hear what the people playing it make of it (both new and familiar) but, to me, this isn't Silent Hill 2. The original is just too artistic, I guess

In defense of Bloober I would say that yeah they wouldn't have been my first choice but it's very clear how much love they have for the series and that goes a long way these days. Especially as I'm struggling to think who else would have been available to take this on.

I like Bloober. Always have. No surprise there.
My let’s play would just consist of me swearing for 9 out of every 10 minutes.

Having never played the OG and not wanting to wade through what I presume are old fashioned controls and ropey graphics, the remake is right up my street (when I have less to play and it's cheaper...).

Decided to jump in on this - never played the Silent Hill games before for whatever reason. Seen a lot of complaints about performance but it seems to run *ok* for me. Seems quite good so far after about half an hour or so.

As long as the original is still available to purchase for people who want that then I think that's fine.

Standing in an abandoned cafe and the radio starts intermittent gargling out my controller speaker. Look out the window and there, in the fog, something is lurching past. Meanwhile Yamaokas freaky soundtrack is grinding away.
It feels like original game, but immersive in a way I couldn’t have even imagined when I first played it.
Aaarrrgh. Sometimes video games can just make you well happy.

Combat is fucking intense. And so meaty. Meaty combat. Meat everywhere. Every where I look there’s lying figures staggering about in the fog like they’re hammered.
Wait. It’s a night out in Glasgow again isn’t it.

So now my first proper session on it has sunk in, there's not really a bad thing I can say about it yet. I got up to the Woodside Apartments and have made a bit of progress there. Absolutely shitting myself. Up til now you can tell stuff has been expanded upon but it's been done so naturally I had to check a few times that a particular bit wasn't in the original. The combat is intense and visceral, each encounter feeling like a proper fight for survival and by the end of it James looks and sounds properly fucked. I initially tried to take all the lying figures in town on before being forced to do what I did in the original and try to get past without alerting them. Combat is harder than the original and enemies don't just wibble up to you and wait for you to twat them. It feels (and this may be controversial) more like Homecoming, in that you have a dodge and the enemies have a few more attacks. It needed that though. You can't have enemies wibbling up to you waiting to be hit in this day and age. It works really well, with some encounters going my way, and others getting a bit messy as I get a bit greedy / sloppy. I never know when they are actually dead either so end up stamping and hitting them for ages after as James literally screams with exertion.
I'm on quality mode at 30fps and it just looks and feels fantastic. The fog is something else as well. The atmosphere is equal to the original and evokes exactly the same feeling of dread and melancholy. Voice acting is spot on so far. And that soundtrack, as I'm walking slowly though the deserted streets, traffic lights hanging and swaying gently overhead, the sight of shapes moving ahead of you in the fog, the radio crackling. Trying to think of a negative. Sometimes it's finicky picking up items.
I've always been a Silent Hill fan over being an RE fan and this is the holy grail of remakes. It may shit itself later on, but judging by the reviews I'm not expecting it to. I mean, I've been wanrting this for so long I've been buying every shite game that evokes even a fraction of SH, including Stray Souls ffs which was... Oh god. No.
