Marvel Snap is a F2P card game developed by Hearthstone people. The aim of the game is control locations in playing field by playing cards based on Marvel characters. The cards have different effects, as do the locations (which also change each game).
There are six turns and games are over quickly - when I timed it, one my matches took me three minutes.
Everyone I've told about the game has ended up playing it and it's become something to do while other games are loading - in between matches of Overwatch for example.

As a longtime TCG/CCG player who has probably played almost every digital iteration of such and also a huge comics head in my youth (albeit more DC than Marvel), I feel I am obligated to play this game. It's good. Really good. 'Nuff Said!

Plus one - I’ve been hearing about this and installed it this weekend. It’s great! I enjoy the way that no cards are not obviously more powerful than others; it’s how you use them in conjunction with the locations. Absolutely doesn’t feel like pay to win. And the design is so tight that most games feel exciting every time.
Text chat with the opponent would be toxic so I know why they don’t include it but there have been a number of times where I’ve wanted to say “great play” haha.

Played a few games now and I'm starting to love it. Opponents seem to be a bit on the crap side so far, though. 7 matches played and won after the initial tutorial ones.
You can almost always tell which lane they're going to focus on and just clean up the other two, or even bait them into focussing on a single lane.

I think I've seen more ads of this game than any other in the last couple weeks.
How's the monetization?

I just dismissed this as a money grab and didn't pay any attention to it. Sounds like it might actually be interesting.
I'll have to give this a go. Always a enjoy a good card game.

Monetisation doesn't seem too bad, mainly visual stuff although you can get what looks like a decent card for real money. So maybe a slight whiff of P2W.
Got my first challenging opponent after reaching iron rank, so not all cannon fodder thankfully.

You can almost always tell which lane they're going to focus on and just clean up the other two, or even bait them into focussing on a single lane. That's because you are matched up exclusively against bots until you hit rank 10. Bot opponents will still show up occasionally afterwards if you can't find a suitable match in the set period of time.

I think I've seen more ads of this game than any other in the last couple weeks. How's the monetization? It's possible to get a full collection fully F2P if you are patient and willing to wait. Money just accelerates the process. The cool variant cards which are totally cosmetic can also cost money. Since I am not patient and have plenty of disposable income, I've been throwing my wallet at this game.

Really? Some of the pauses between turns feel pretty real. I'm a bit ashemed to have finally lost a game now!

I might be wrong about them exclusively being bots pre-30 but I do know that you will be matched up heavily against bots pre-30. Only way to tell for sure that your opponent isn't a bot is that bots don't emote. Looks like I was wrong and edited my message. www.yahoo.com/now/marvel-snap-players-bot-paranoia-162500772.html

I'm been bouncing around level 30ish. And by bouncing I mean, losing all the time. It's getting to the point where I feel I have to tinker with decks. I've played several times per day since launch, but it somehow feels like I've hit this point too quickly.

I've played several times per day since launch, but it somehow feels like I've hit this point too quickly. Part of that is the learning process. If you have a deck that is not outright horrible and average play skills, the most important skill in order to rank up is knowing when to snap and when not to. Plugging Hoogland again because he's very informative:

I just played someone with the username "Duffman" - was it you Duffman5 ? I'm well into this game- it's scratching the same itch as Hearthstone used to, with the added bonus that I don't feel a need to learn the meta or build custom decks (Yet...)

Also, NEVER do the Fast Upgrade options in the shop. It's a waste of credits that even whales get a limited supply of every day.

Been playing this since it launched. I keep making stupid mistakes. Like not moving Nightcrawler from a spot I am going to lose to a section I may still win; and would’ve if I had moved him.

I kept forgetting I’d played Jessica Jones and losing her buff by playing the same location next turn. (She should have some indication not to go there, like they do with locations that are blocked or protected)

Scarlet Witch is my favourite so far. Always a total gamble, but can be so much fun to totally change a lane that the other guy has been obsessing over due to whatever buff it offers.

I’m on collection level 125 and can see some good synergy with different decks now. I’ve made a GOTG heavy deck which relies on guessing where your opponent plays for bonuses.
The best I’ve found so far (by not paying for the season pass) is using Moon Girl to double my hand and then playing Devil Dino, who gets +2 per card in your hand. Even better if there are cloning vats and I can play him again!

For those concerned about monetisation; here’s how it works.
The game has a shop and a season pass.
The shop lets you buy a single card as part of a bundle. The card is ok, not amazing. The season pass has multiple steps, some of which are free, some of which only unlock if you pay for it. The season-specific cards are locked behind this paid tier, but there are only approx 3 (and that’s for the whole month!). Again the cards are good but not amazing. You progress up the season pass by doing challenges. There are seasonal challenges which give you XP, and daily challenges which give you credits. None of these are paywalled.
Credits allow you to upgrade card aesthetics. It has no effect on the abilities or stats of the card itself. Each time you upgrade a card you upgrade your “Collection Level” or CL.
As you add CLs you unlock further cards (as well as credits and some other stuff). This part isn’t paywalled at all.
The shop lets you spend credits on upgrading up to three cards “early”. You can also buy credits outright if you want. Just to reiterate, this has no effect on the card abilities, it’s just aesthetics and going up CL marginally.
I think that covers it. There are some more details but it would be too confusing to go over it in more detail so that’s the basics. The core takeaway is that no single card will constantly win a match - it’s about outplaying your opponent with the cards and locations you get.

Seasons are also quite short (4 weeks), and when they're gone they're gone by the look of it. I came close buying the season pass yesterday, but thankfully didn't as that would've been £9 pissed away!
Absolutely no interest in the Wakanda stuff that it's changed to now.

Seasonal cards get added to Pool 3 after 2 months so you will eventually be able to earn it down the line.

Mobile and on Steam early access. The Steam client might be a little buggy but you can always play it on PC with BlueStacks emulation.

Pretty annoyed that I dropped a bunch of ranks when the new season started! But otherwise yeah, quite enjoying this and it's a nice five minute time killer.

And someone called ABCDEFU, which I thought was pretty creative

The season pass blurb said something about dropping 3 ranks and I figured I’d go from 38 to 35, but no, it means the big ranks that are 10 levels each - iron, silver, gold etc

I had the most absurd game which featured actual Galactus earlier. I’ll spoiler it below in case you don’t want to know his powers. I had the location “first player to play four cards gets a random six cost card for zero”. I drew Galactus. He is only power 3 but his on reveal is insane - “If this is your only card here, destroy all other locations”.
So I played it in an empty location on turn 4 and Jesus Christ - you get a small cutscene and one by one the other locations (and the cards on them) get destroyed. So you’re left with a single location. It was amazing!!
