Had a decent go of it today and did the yak section that seemed to divide a few people here (loved the change of pace personally) Then the absolutely excellent Nidhogg (?) boss fight and a great bit of story Thoroughly enjoying my time with it so far anyway. Also had a nice big ending spoiler waiting for me in my Google news feed this morning, which was nice.

Garm is probably the first part of the game that actually delivered some spectacle I wanted since like, the opening hour.

And I have completed! a few stats for you.
Time: 27h 20m. On PS, ( however TT has me at 33 hours ?) How anyone completed in under 20 hours beats me. Skill: easy/tell me a story and yet I still struggled a bit on bosses. died twice in game (both times boss fights) but had the stone to resurrect myself. Unlocked skill trees to 2 of the 3 weapons for Kratos and fully unlocked skill tree of "BOY's" Bow and I think Freya's 5 favours/side missions complete. Opened 3 of the Rune chests Only killed 14 of the ravens ? Green birds. Trophies: 1G 3S 11b
Overall, really enjoyed, I did absolutely get stuck on puzzles a few times though and this did harm my playthrough. I loved the story though and the cut scenes were always very welcome. It was also emotional at times. I always find this with Children in a story, more so since I am a father. The game also ran wonderful even with spells going off left right and Chelsea. I do have loads of side content to play, but my nephew is alao champing at the bit to play, so maybe not.
9/10

Hi revan, that wasn't actually aimed at you but more when I looked on "How long to beat" that said with your sub 20 hours, but even that seems fast, did you not "soak up" the world and atmosphere. You must have run virtually everywhere ?

I don't know how far through the story I am as don't want to spoil it, but looks like I'm only halfway through chapter 6 and have already played 23 hours whilst mopping up everything I can as I go (no struggles with combat on balanced so that's not slowing me down). Looks like a long haul for me.

Bloody hell, that's taking if pretty slowly. Currently on 15 hours and chapter 9 and I'm not exactly racing through it. Finding the side quests far more challenging than the main ones in places now that I'm wandering around to mop stuff up. Had to drop the difficulty right down and enable mini boss checkpoints for one of them in Alfheim the guardian as you leave the sanctum... Ouch!

I used the checkpoints as well, didn't want an experience where I was smashing my head against the wall.

Just under 60 hours for me and the platinum, all done on balanced. One fight in particular must have taken me about 50 tries.

You must have run virtually everywhere ? Yeah I ran most places after a few hours as I found most areas pretty boring. Plus half the game you've already visited in the last game . There were a couple of areas later I really liked though and one was amazing but sadly you were only there a very short time. Plus I used the r3 technique so I always knew which way to go.

I'm playing on the second lowest difficulty, Grace, and I really like it. No real frustrations on the combat but a couple of bosses have caught me out. Too much challenge/going on too long and there's a danger I could lose interest, which would be a shame as it's a nice well made game.

Too much challenge/going on too long and there's a danger I could lose interest, which would be a shame as it's a nice well made game. I play most single player campaigns on easy/story mode now. A couple of reasons why, mostly due to being pants (seriously, I can't remember button press sequences in fights for example) at games but another reason is pretty much what you are saying. If I have to repeat the same area/fight over and over, which doesn't change anything in the narrative, I will lose interest pretty quickly. The main qualities in any game for me are its story, characters, world and the atmosphere. Interestingly there are 3 of us at work who play a lot of games and we all get different things out of it. One mate is a total cheveo whore and I mean he completes every game with 1000g's he will also play the same game over multiple platforms purely for the gamerscore. I think he has played Minecraft on at least 4 different machines, likewise GTA V on 360 and on series X. The other mate (PS only) plays every game on the hardest setting (allowed) from the off, no matter if he fails the same area 100 times etc and that is what gives him joy. I just want the journey and experience with the least frustration.

I usually play on a harder difficulty level but I did knock it back down to the default one yesterday.
I made it to the second desert storm bit and it got to the point where everything was killing me in two hits. That is usually fine and I would try and get gud but the god of war getting killed repeatedly by a stay hit from one of those hairless chimps is per immersion breaking.
I think the default difficulty is fine, tbh. It’s still kind of a challenge and you aren’t missing out on anything as the difficulty level doesn’t actually improve the combat, really.

Yeah I'm finding the default pretty much perfectly balanced. Never feels too easy and stays the right side of frustrating.

Frustrating is the right word because I did feel like it was wasting my time at points. You regularly come up against something with a massive health bar that takes ten minutes to whittle down and getting clipped at the last second is incredibly annoying. You never really feel like you’re fighting on equal terms and always feel like the weakest thing on screen.

Whatever difficulty, everyone should turn off that extremely annoying compass.

I've actually been finding it a bit too easy on Give Me Balance, so either Elden Ring has set my difficulty yardstick at a ridiculously-high level, or I'm some sort of hardcore MLG gaming god. (Hint: it's the former.)

I think I may have wandered into areas that Im not supposed to be in yet, to be fair. I was managing OK on the higher one but went to explore the second part of the desert immediately after freeing freya and everything there hits like a truck. There is one of those 'reach in the portal and fight what comes out' battles where two fat guys with sticks hit me for 80% health each time. Then there is the big monster, then there is the marble head ghost thing and... yeah.. fuck that.

In fairness, I haven't done many (if any) of the rifts in Ragnarok, purely because so many of 'em kicked my ass sideways in the 2018 game.
In terms of trash mobs, mini bosses and regular bosses, though, it has been fairly smooth sailing.

I honestly think that the only way this game is able to generate difficulty is to put you in situations that the game's combat doesn't handle very well. That and having enemies with large windows where they just input read your attacks and are programmed to dodge perfectly. The berserker fights are absolute snooze fests because of that shit, they do an easily dodged or parried attack and you go to follow up with an attack and it's like, naahhh sorry I'm programmed to take 0 damage for the next 5 seconds, I'm going to dodge the instant you hit attack and even if your weapon physically passes through me I will still take zero damage. Also the one with 3 enemies is without a doubt the worst boss fight I've ever seen in a game. I'm in the "I don't see it" camp, quite firmly for this one. Decent story, nice visuals let down by plodding gameplay pacing, a lack of spectacle and combat that frankly falls apart any time more than 2 enemies are involved in a fight.

I've found the Blades of Chaos to be borderline overpowered against multiple enemies - just back away until they're all in front of you, in a 180-degree arc, then spam R1.

Getting them in one place is always the challenge, though. So many annoying enemies in this who seem intent on surrounding you.
It's always so immensely satisfying ripping those acid spewing enemies off walls and kicking the shit out of them.

Crocodilerok. Best one so far.
Has anyone cleared any of this game’s version of 2018s Valkyrie fights?
Edit: nvm should have scrolled up a bit!
