WarrenderAgreed. I enjoyed HFW, but not nearly as much as I'd hoped to; while Ragnarok seems similar at first glance (i.e. a more-of-the-same type of sequel), I'm hoping it'll land some of the punches that Horizon missed.

I resisted both those games for ages and played them both long after most people and I enjoyed the first (previous, innit) GoW far more than the first Horizon.
I've felt no great need to play HFW, but I buckled and pre-ordered Ragnarok.

GOW has the advantage of being a sequel to a very good game rather than a kind of ok game.

Not quite sure why this isn‘t supposed to be as much as a step up as Horizon 2, it looks absolutely astonishing, and I‘ve replayed the opening of 2018 GoW just a few days ago. The only exception is a character I won‘t spoil here which, weirdly, looks a bit like it was copypasted from some game 10 years ago, it’s a little absurd. |

What is game mode is everyone using? Is there a 60fps performance mode?
I usually go for this if there is one.

Think there are a few in this. 40FPS quality mode if you've got a 120Hz display.
There's the usual suspects of 30 quality and 60 performance if you don't.

Apparently the go to is performance mode with unlocked framerate if you have a VRR 120hz display. Averages about 90fps. Tried it this morning and it's buttery smooth.

I didn't even try the 30 fps mode, I'm just not that kind of guy any more.
I found it curious how the DF article describes 40 fps as a "a slight boost in fluidity" over 30. The difference between the two is MASSIVE (not in GOW specifically, I'm not in a position to test it, but going by the dozens of games I played on the Steam Deck). The slight boost is between 40 and 60, not here.

I'm mostly taken in by the voicework. Kratos and Atreus are kind of par for the course right now, but the other characters that appear in the first few hours are outstanding. The one notable exception is Faye. Both the model and the voice are out of another game entirely. |

Ran into an optional boss that fucked me up. Did a few side quests that got me an armour set, went back and caved it's stupid head in.
Hooks are firmly in already.
