Working my way through the last game still, so I should probably duck out of this thread too.
My god it's bloody good! Feel like a fool for not giving it a proper chance the two previous times I started it. So yeah, I'll probably cave and order this imminently.

Add me to the dragged myself away list 😁 +1. Have to go bed otherwise I'll play too the wee hours and people need educating in the morning, apparently by me. But yeah this feels pretty special and is definitely more than a high Res PS4 game.

I've dragged myself away as well, after two hours or so of playtime.
Absolutely loving it thus far.

Thanks, settings seem to be the same. We might have the same TV I dimly remember unless you upgraded in the last couple of years. Not sure. Can't say I'm noticing any difference at all in the picture between to two modes. I have RGB range set to limited and black level set to low which helped with washed out blacks I was getting on a few games. Also just noticed they are to have added a "fine tune dark areas" in the additional settings which might help. Thanks, Decks, I will take another look at my settings.

I too did the X and O switch because of ingrained Souls/Elden Ring muscle memory. The basic controls are not too dissimilar with attacking, dodging and blocking etc, but i’m still feeling a bit shit at fighting in this. Finding it difficult to adjust to having to find and then pick health up off the floor instead of chugging a flask. I’m repeating what others have said here; first hour in and it really is outrageous haha. Had to drag myself away as up early tomorrow. I'd definitely recommend going into the accessibility options and making picking up resources automatic. There's a ton of shit in there that's super useful. Thanks for this! Will have a look through these options

Is it me, or is this more difficult than the 2018 one? I play one notch above the normal difficulty (Give me no mercy), and I die … quite a lot. This does not exactly make Kratos look like a god, but I hope to make the RPG bits/stats/armor more noticeable that way.

It just wouldn't be the same if I didn't spend the first few hours with a game obsessively flicking between graphics modes looking for imperceivable differences.

Unless everyone else in the room left because they can‘t stand seeing the settings menu one more time, you weren‘t meticulous enough.

I don't have the high FPS option, so I'm just playing the recommended setting. Tbh, good enough for me, I don't ever play with the settings unless I'm seeing what people are talking about (eg, Cyberpunk). Are we spoilering here? I did Nidvellar and the three furnaces on the lake last night. It was good to be out of the snow. 😁 Also, enjoyed Opie Winston as Thor 😁

I usually go for a harder mode but not sure this time as was getting my ass kicked on hard. In the previous game I played on God of War mode, can’t remember why I did this. But I remember the beginning being silly and then it got better once more gear and skills were available.

He is kind of made of glass in this one but I refuse to wear those hideous full armour suits.
I do struggle to get the dodge off in time on some of the bosses as the window is so short. If the dodge was on underside paddles it would be much easier to get to as you have to keep a thumb on the right stick. This is down to the ps5 pad which along with thr PS3 one is one of my least favourite pads.
That aside though, the game is brilliant and I think I've already fought more enemies in this than the previous game in its entirety.

I've sort of missed this franchise (I was getting it mixed up with something else I wasn't interested in). Worth catching up with the previous ones?

Currently playing Days Gone, really enjoying that, after seeing my zombie obsessed child play it. Will have a look at the last one I think my music score writing acquaintance did the music for one of them.

You can easily just play the most recent 2 games. You can get all of his back story from a YouTube video to give him some context as the older games are quite old nowadays.

"Angry man smash things and kill all of the Greek gods, because reasons."
There you go. You're primed on the backstory and ready to start GoW 2018.

I'm playing on +1 like I did before and I die quite a lot if I'm not paying attention. I find this sort of setting makes games more memorable, even killing the horse woman mini boss took me 3 attempts or so.

Plus, this has gyro aiming in the options. This should be on by default, it's the best pad innovation since pads were invented.

I only had one issue playing last night and that's wearing headphones the audio mix didn't sound punchy enough, it felt a bit flat.

I've watched some footage of this and even low level enemies just seem to soak up lots of damage. I don't think I can play this following Ghost of Satsuma where I can slice a fool in half with a single hit.

I am sure monkman means the ambitious, but slightly misguided Grapes of Wrath video game, based on Steinbeck’s novel. It was just too depressing to play.

Well I really thought I'd play on the HFR + VRR quality mode, but having flicked to high performance mode to have a test I can't go back. Like GoW 2018 the game is completely transformed by a higher frame rate IMO. And I simply cannot tell the difference in terms of resolution.
Actually, either due to my TV (C1), the motion blur or the temporal upscaling/anti-aliasing system, as soon as there was any amount of camera movement the quality mode looked noticeably blurrier than the performance mode

Astro A50s with my usual FPS multiplayer Dolby profile on the mixamp that I tend to use for anything, there are better headphones i know but it's a decent enough set-up usually. Wondering if it's how they've set it up for Sony's own Pulse 3D audio and I need different settings.
