Supermans
Superman: Special Edition: Amazing. Like 'why dont they make them like this anymore?' amazing. Inventive, heartfelt, warm, spectacular... The extra eight minutes drags the pacing a bit but the content it adds is worth it 10/10
Superman 2: The Donner Cut - The Best Version. There are less wacky antics, no bumpkin fights and everything is played a bit straighter. It also follows the first one directly, so no eiffell tower scenes, either. It explains why he gave up his powers more clearly (largely thanks to not having to cut brando out) and the villains arent a travelling circus. Its just a much more serious film and really benefits from it. It is, sadly, nowhere near finished and the ending was used to close out the first movie so looks pretty dumb to pull the same stunt again. But, overall, you can tell it would be the clear winner if it was actually finished. 9/10
Superman 2: The Best Version - Its obviously a finished movie for a start. The scenes with lois and clark are, frankly, just better and her finding out he is superman is handled more naturally than just hoying yourself out a window. Clark getting his powers back is handled better, too. And I cant emphasise enough how bad the ending is in the Donner cut. 9/10
Superman 3: 'My Superman', the one I saw when my brain started working and the one I saw the most in the 80s, so I have a real soft spot for it. Richard Pryor is always welcome and you ask any 40 something what the scariest thing they ever saw was and they will tell you 'Cyborg Vera'. And Schitzoid Superman is objectively a fantastic scene. A very subjective 7/10
Superman 5: Arguably as good a 20 minutes as any of them. Then its just a boring love letter with really weird decisions and Kevin Spacey 5/10
Superman 4: It obviously sucks. Ducky is terrible and Hackman phones it in while clearly absorbing most of the budget. Watching them back to back, it is so obvious this was made for the price of a TV movie. Shame. 2/10

I'm still amazed that something I found positively frightening aka the cyborg in Superman 3, was a shared nightmare for children across the globe.

I've heard similar mixed reviews of the Donner Cut. Makes some things much better, but some things worse. There must be a fan edit out there somewhere that merges the two of them together in a satisfying way.
PS/ What good content does the Special Edition add?
PPS/ Is cyborg vera still scary?

Tbf, the donner version is hamstrung by him trying to use as little Lester material as possible and, speaking of fan edits, you would think that some nerds could probably use AI or whatever to finish some of the shots now. Its still remarkable how good it is despite its limitations.
The krypton stuff is longer, there are a few extra lines of dialogue here and there, Lois is now the little girl on the train he races, which introduces like a 10 year age gap between them for no reason and there and some of the sound design has changed.
For an eight year old, I would think so, yes.

I thought on a full super ranking last night:
Superman the movie Superman 2 (either/both) Superman 3 Superman Superman returns Superman 4 Batman vs Superman
He’s not in either The Justice League‘s enough to count (if they did, whedons would be bottom and the mini series would be below superman 3)

Yeah, I dislike more of the latter. I just find it really boring whereas man of steel is just stupid

Man of Steel was too long, the Jesus analogies were so heavy handied and he came across as a bit of a dick. It was interesting how in Whedon's JL Superman was VERY concerned about citizens.

I know and that film has it own many many many issues. I don't want to go all whiny but at least Returns seemed to get/care about the character, I still maintain that Snyder just didn't get the characters he was putting on film and just went in with the mindset of "what would appeal to a 13 year old boy?", just like he did with Sucker Punch.

Have we done the various Soulsbornes/Niohs in here yet or is that too dangerous a topic to bring up? (not that I'd be able to weigh in all that much, the only ones I've played properly are Elden Ring, Wo Long, Nioh 2 and technically Sekiro -played some, watching DadFE for the rest- )

I'll just drop my "should probably be in the Unpopular Opinions thread" opinion and say that in terms of some things people rate Sekiro higher on, I enjoyed Nioh 2 much more. (Details in spoilers because it turned out to be more long-winded than I thought ) Combat is subjective of course. Sekiro is much more focused and tight with just one weapon, its combat arts and the tools and to some people that's better. To me, it just feels limiting and I much prefer a greater amount of options (not even necessarily as many options as Nioh gives you either, just more than Sekiro does). (Tangent: That's part of why I'm worried about FF16 actually, AFAIK you only get the one weapon type, no elemental or buff-debuff system to make different swords more unique beyond stats (not even something niche like making a specific weapon buff a specific Eikon or something) and even fewer combat options until you're a good chunk into the game... I'll reserve actual judgement on that until I've played the game a good amount though.) Environment and music though... I feel like Sekiro has a more consistently beautiful environment but Nioh's highs tend to be higher (the semi-final level and the the temple where you fight Shuten-Doji especially come to mind) while its lows aren't really too low (note we're talking about Nioh 2 here, so the Umi-Bozu level with the death holes everywhere doesn't count ). And the music in Nioh is far more memorable than Sekiro's to me, I'm sorry. Not to say Sekiro has a bad soundtrack at all, it doesn't, but barring a few specific pieces it's not on that level, even with Nioh's being mostly battle/boss themes. (I haven't seen people talk about enemy design all that much but I also give the point to Nioh here -again, with a couple exceptions for Sekiro-) But again, that's just my opinion and should probably be in the Unpopular Opinions thread anyway

In honor of Kojima-style nonsense, I'd expect my list would be an ever-looping circle.

I actually really enjoyed 5, and it has the best actual gameplay, but it also felt very incomplete and the structure of the game is a bit of a mess.
Didn't help that Ground Zeroes was actually much more interesting than the actual main game. If the full game had actual bases as well designed as GZ it could easily have been the best MGS game.

I bounced off MGS 4 and V, after enjoying the previous ones. It was the unskippable cutscenes of 4 and the open world desert of V.
I always liked the idea of an MGS with a 24 style feel. Eg: take the boat for MGS 2 demo and set a game on a ship with a 6 hour timer where you have to achieve tasks. It forces you to make choices and Kojima could really have fun building different scenarios and loads of replay value.

Metal Gear SolidMGS1 > MGS4 > MGS2 > MGS5 > MGS3 MGS > MGS2 = MGS3 > MGR > MGS5 > MGS4 This is the same as mine, albeit MGR would be last. Can't wait for the collection to smash 1, 2 and 3 back to back.

Never even heard of the Pirates! one. I'll have to check it out.
I remember being a bit meh on Wererabbit, mainly because it felt like a decent Wallace & Grommit episode stretched out to far too long. Not bad though.

I think Pirates is still on Netflix but it might have its American title which drops the ‘scientists‘ bit for something more generic
