The first 3 movies were as 80's as you can get, definitely a product of their time.
These days I just find them boring and a bit racist.
Don't see the point of this. Kids today don't want an 80 year old action hero they've barely even heard of, carried by ever more ridiculous CGI action scenes.
Crystal skull was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, this looks like more of the same with the CGI cranked up a notch.

I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen one all the way through. Seen most of the set pieces here and there over the years, absolutely no idea what happens in any of them though and don’t think I’ll ever get round to it at this point. Huge gaps in my film viewing

Harrison Ford was arguably too old in Last Crusade, although this was brilliantly masked by introducing a vital and energetic (ish) Sean Connery as his dad. Never mind that this was 30 years ago…
(I do love Last Crusade though, very much)

Hollywood does this a lot, star quality trumping all (it’s the same reason we see nothing but sequels and remakes these days, stick to proven success and damn the creative side of things). Doesn’t make it plausible, but then there’s a lot about Last Crusade that does that  |

Also it's totally plausible that a middle Eastern sultan could be played by Alexei Sayle. Totally. |

There was a lot of hidden subtlety and nuance in my post.
If it was a new character it’s one thing, when it’s someone reprising their role from decades ago then it would be more jarring if it was someone else replacing him.
They could have created a new character I guess but they didn’t.
