You should check out Sum 41. They're gonna be BIG.

Went to book tickets for the opening Friday at the Printworks IMAX. Apart from the three I got, six other seats had been sold. I don’t think this film will do very well. Or be any good. But there you have it. I dunno, is it the kind of film worth bothering with IMAX for?

Reminds me, I guess the kids had better watch No4 before going to see this.

Hopefully the Cavill moustache CGI has come on enough to cover up the oxygen tubes

Was dial of destiny really the best title they could have come up with?

It's better than the alternative title, The Knob of Knowledge.

I don't expect this to be as big as something like Star Wars or Marvel though. PS/ It's weird seeing you guys talk about reserving tickets so early. Over here you can rarely book tickets more than 3 days in advance.

I don't think I've ever had to do it. Normally just book on the day.

I am reserving booking that far ahead for Dune pt 2 at the BFI IMax and nothing else. Rise of Skywalker burned me too badly.

Ive just finished watching this and .. what a load of old fanwank.
Dredged up nearly anybody they could from the archives to give it the 'feels' but I was uninterested. Then they were off to meet his old friend who is an excellent diver with a bit boat ... to which I spent a few mins trying to puzzle out who that might be. Puss in Boats!
Wombat as she is known is utterly fucking annoying and Harrison is so fucking old that nearly every shot where he isn't just 'huffing' into or out of a scene then it's CGI/deepfake stuff.
I enjoyed the bit where they get plot device b from some cave but that was a short lived bit of old school indy/Lara raiding.
On the whole, meh/10

From some image I saw that looked like Indy and Wombat standing next to a big boulder, I'd come up with the idea that they were going to do some kind of Back to the Future 2 style time travel thing where they'd go back and visit scenes/locations from the earlier movies.
Like they'd have to get to the boulder before young indy and do something to delay its release so he didn't get crushed, or clear something off the mine-cart tracks so that they'd be able to escape in ToD, but without being seen. SO you'd have young and old indy running around in the same locations, a bit like you had 2 Martys.
I'm not sure if it's a good idea, but it would at least have justified it being the most expensive movie ever.
Either way, it could definitely have done with a bit more tomb-raiding.

I simply thought the only thing wrong with it, moment to moment as I was watching it, was that the script itself - the words the characters were saying - was never as interesting, original or witty as the original films.
Which was only made worse by them spending a good twenty minutes of it (spread out across the movie) saying lines from previous movies. The bit where Sallah sings “I am the monarch of the sea” again - his character beat is that he bursts into song sometimes, why not have him sing a new song he picked up in the last 70 years?
The callbacks only felt forced and took me out of the movie every time, and I’m being generous by suggesting I was into the movie in the first place. I didn’t hate it, I liked parts of it, but it wasn’t very good. Poor script, mostly weightless action sequences.

I've said it before, but every action sequence went on painfully too long. None of them would have been bad if they'd each been 10 minutes shorter. They all repeated beats again and again. Like, on the Nazi train, they do the thing about him walking into a carriage full of nazis about 5 times!
Other than that, I enjoyed it well enough while watching it, but my opinion of it has declined over time since then. It's fine as a ride, but there's no real structure to it and not enough tomb/historical type stuff and it all feels a bit pointless.
I watched it about the same time as The Flash, and I felt they were about equal 7/10 movies. Both were too long and could have done with a good edit. My opinion of The Flash has probably held up more than Indy5, though not by much.

Tbh, the plot, script and acting are almost inconsequential because I was absolutely fixated on how ruinously ugly it is throughout the whole thing. Even when there is no obvious CGI on the screen, it still looks blown out and oversaturated like a telenovela.
Its like if they released a sequel to the mona lisa that was just a bored ape, its almost sacriligious.
