Given that the Banner Hulk storyline in the comics went into some depth with his childhood abuse, and used a vast amount of sort of dreamworld / astral plain Hulk Banner conversations and fights, I can see why they didn’t try to film it. Even the little they DID do in Infinity War didn’t make sense to anyone. I totally misread what they were trying to get at with Hulk refusing to fight, I just thought he was scared of Thanos or something.
I think if I was making a Hulk movie, I’d like to see them return to his Gamma Bomb Test origin instead of the insipid origins they’ve used for every filmed version. I’d want Rick Jones in there, and I’d want the version of The Leader that Peter David created for Ground Zero, when Banner discovers that the US government has stockpiled gamma bombs and Jones, Banner and a rogue SHIELD agent go on a road trip in a Winnebago to find and destroy the bombs. The Joe Fixit stuff doesn’t really make sense without Ground Zero coming first... although even then it doesn’t make sense. It’s a great run of comics but would be ludicrous in a movie to have Hulk disguised as a casino bouncer.

Got round to Shang-Chi - thought it was pretty good! The first fight in the bus was great. The subtitles were a bit unreliable tho - sometimes they flashed up for only a very short sec.

Not technically MCU, but Marvel/Spider-Man related.

I hadn’t realised we were getting a sequel but very happy to hear it, Spiderverse was brilliant.

A two-parter!
Thought the first one was so well done, probably my favourite spiderman.

As one of the best entries in the super hero genre, very happy with that.

Charlie Cox confirmed to return as Daredevil by Feige himself. In what capacity is unknown, but as least its confirmed.

I've found some more recent Hulk comic stories made the mythos far too complex. The whole green door, One-Below-All connection just felt like a bit too much of a retcon.
Not read any but the recent "Starship Hulk" plotline sounds daft too.
It's that sort of over-complexity and additions to characters that put me off comics.
It's nothing new, they've been fiddling around with characters since comics began, as I guess it can be hard to keep a character fresh so they'll try any old gimmick or retcon. Inevitably the new angle is dropped very quickly and rarely mentioned again.
So whilst the MCU doesn't utilise the Hulk as well as it could, I'd rather they under-use him than go off on daft tangents.

I would argue the exact opposite. Immortal Hulk is pretty much the best hulk series Ive read (although as a standalone, cinematic sci-fi story Planet Hulk is tough to top on any front)

But just conceptually, it rewrites a pseudo-scientific origin to something much more mystical and I'm not sure how that makes me feel.

Immortal Hulk is extremely complicated and bizarre, and builds on a lot of deep Hulk mythology, almost none of which is in the film's. I don't see them doing any time soon with the MCU. And yeah the magic/mystical elements completely recontextualize the Hulk in a way that I think most casual Hulk fans will find bizarre or creepy (though I totally get why they went that way when trying to draw together so much stuff). It's a totally different vibe to the MCU, too. More like a much darker and more depressing Spiderverse. I think if we saw it from Marvel on screen it'd be as an alternative thing like Spiderverse.

I doubt it will last long before its undone but it is a fairly clever way of explaining and exploring how people gain random gamma powers as it has almost always been like magic rather than science, anyway.

I've decided to rewatch all the Spider-Man movies in anticipation of No Way Home next week. I say "rewatch" but I've never actually seen the Amazing films before.
So the MCU films are great, Spider-Verse is a masterpiece. I've made it through the Raimis and started watching Amazing last night (which so far, halfway through, is... fine? Like, Garfield is good and the physicality of Spidey is great, even though the plot and the Uncle Ben rehash stuff is ropey).
Anyway, my thoughts of the Raimi films, which I adored back in the day:
SM1: better even than I remembered; picks a delightfully campy, melodramatic tone and sticks with it, everything played up to the max, reinforced by the camera angles and sound design. All the cast are terrific, especially Dafoe. Five stars. SM2: used to be my favourite superhero movie, but now I think... it's a bit long, a bit soapy. It's actually quite miserable, all the Peter/MJ/Harry stuff is way more fraught and angsty and sad-teen-drama than it was in the first film. And this really drags the film, shoots the legs from under it, when the fights are incredible, the stuff with Doc Ock remarkable. Molina is almost as great as Dafoe was, and this is where the film excels. But yeah, I found it wasn't quite the masterpiece I remembered. Four stars. SM3: okay, I'd always had some minor issues with this one, but now I'm flat-out annoyed by it, because it does SO MUCH right but bungles other stuff in a really amateurish way. Again, the Peter/MJ relationship angst is a pain in the arse, turning MJ into a sadsack and making Peter a dick. I know that's sort of the point, but it's all so slow and sad that - like SM2 - it cripples the film's momentum whereas the first one was soaring the whole time. It repeats plot points - Harry is evil, now he's good, now he's evil - and introduces way too many characters, not just the villains. Venom is uninteresting, the "evil suit" aspect basically relegated to one half-hour sequence in the film, and distracts from who the real baddie should be: Harry, corrupted by his father. Franco is great in this film; gaslighting people, breaking up Peter & MJ, etc. Oh, and Sandman is in it too I guess; his origin is really nicely done but he barely registers as a presence. So yeah: mixed bag, some terrific stuff let down by really shoddy plot work. Three stars, but at times it felt like a two.

On the latest episode of Hawkeye while it was totally guessable that Black Widow was the masked assassin did anyone else feel the reveal was really underplayed? Like you barely got a look and she was away like it could’ve been anyone. Especially compared to Echo’s cliffhanger debut a few episodes earlier and consider she’d just been the star of an actual MCU film

Ref the last episode I didn't actually recognise the assassin and had to ask my wife who it was. I'm a bit tired (long week), but my brain hasn't got a clue, so it was totally lost on me. Quite cool though.
Oh and assume you meant Black Widow's sister.
I also had no clue who echo was (and still don't). I DID recognise the music she was playing though which I was pleased with myself about.

Not sure how many Hawkeyes we got thru today after starting it, but it is pretty good! So much better than winter bore and non super captain a. The NYC setting and local crime focus remind me of the Netflix marvel series. And I am a sucker for Christmas films/series anyway

On seeing it, I thought the post-credits scene in Black Widow was a mistake. This could have been a surprise reveal, deflated by needing to literally tell us she’d be coming.
Similarly I thought the post credits scene in Eternals was a waste too. Eros and Pip aren’t remotely interesting characters, they’d need to be introduced in such a way to render them interesting. The MCU excelled at doing this for three phases, and now they are at the “It’s us, we’re here, just because” milestone of their Post-Stark decline.
I’m liking Hawkeye a lot though. Pacing is a bit slow, but hopefully the plot questions outstanding have good answers coming.
Given that the main villains Hawkeye worries about are twits in tracksuits (really? Ronin made no worse enemies you’d care to mention) it sets the tone for a lighthearted adventure. If they flipped the tone and he DOESN’T make it home alive for Christmas.. I don’t see how they could possibly go there. Looking forward to it wrapping in a fun way, not an “oh my existential suffering!” away.

On the latest episode of Hawkeye Yeah that was really weirdly done. Also I felt like they had a stuntwoman doing the moves when the mask was on who had enough of a different build to Pugh (who is delightfully stocky and relatively broad-shouldered) that I was thinking "Huh, I'd expect it to be Black Widow 2 but it seems to be a different one..." so when it was revealed it was Black Widow 2 I was non-plussed.
Separately the ending with Clint deciding to work alone was a real eye-roll because it's such a tired superhero/action hero cliche and it always resolves the same two ways, either the hero gets in too deep and needs rescued by the sidekick, or the sidekick pursues anyway and needs rescued by the hero, and they end up working together. Loved everything else about the episode though, continuing to enjoy this a lot more than I thought I would, and also, both the leads (and the woman playing the mother, though not sword guy) can actually act. Renner always seemed pretty bad in other stuff I saw him in, but with the tight close-ups on his face and the slower pace and so on, he was actually very convincing. And Steinfeld is just great, loads of charisma, nails the character completely.

He’s kind of a weird looking dude for an action star, his face reminds me of podlings from The Dark Crystal. But they’ve always used him well I think because he’s often presented as “hey, I’m just some guy, you know?” which has given him some really solid moments as SuperPower Antidote throughout the films.
Given he wasn’t even a character barely in The Avengers, that bit in Avengers 2 where he effectively tells Scarlett Witch to fuck off with her mind-control bs made him MvP.

Wind River is a great film for more 'Renner can act'. Not much fun though (although it has an amazing shootout).

One place that’s being really hit by vaccine requirements is reality tv shows. MTV is allegedly being hardcore about it for their new seasons. Who’d have thought people vapid enough to show up on those things could be anti-vax?

RE: the black widow cameo: I'm glad I knew this was coming as I'd have had no idea who she was. Then again, I haven't seen Black Widow yet. Marvel does seem to be able to mostly walk the line where stuff in the movies doesn't require having seen the tv shows, but the tv shows do seem to require having seen the movies at times Loved everything else about the episode though, continuing to enjoy this a lot more than I thought I would, and also, both the leads (and the woman playing the mother, though not sword guy) can actually act. Renner always seemed pretty bad in other stuff I saw him in, but with the tight close-ups on his face and the slower pace and so on, he was actually very convincing. And Steinfeld is just great, loads of charisma, nails the character completely. Sword guy I can't work out. There's something weird about his performance, and I can't work out if it's intentional or not. It does make the character ambiguous, so it's hard to work out if he's actually going to turn out to be a bad guy or not. The overall 'plot' of the show isn't anything special at all, but the acting and writing of the leads is awesome. I was expecting a standard 'snarky kid' vs 'grizzled veteran' dynamic, but it's much more interesting than that. The dialogue between the 2 is great, and I agree that Steinfeld is perfect. He’s kind of a weird looking dude for an action star, his face reminds me of podlings from The Dark Crystal. Yeah, that's a great description. I was thinking something similar in the 4th episode, as they had a lot of closeups. Then they showed some flashbacks to the movies and he looked a lot younger and more standard action hero guy.

I might have already posted this, but seems really obvious the bad guy is actually the mother, who opportunistically murdered the father during the 2012 chaos, and is now framing sword guy for the murder of Old Man she didn’t like.
Her birth name will turn out to be Fisk and Kingpin her brother.
