People on twitter really really don't give a fuck about spoiling things do they? Best avoid for the next few days. One reason I was in the cinema at 9:00 this morning.
Very much enjoyed the film but I'm saying nothing more.

RE the subway crash scene in Black Widow - In the brief scenes they are running for their lives both are seen to be slightly hobbling, and Florence Pugh’s character is bleeding. She even says later that using her bloood as a distraction was whilst she almost bled to death. Considering they are trained professionals, most likely on an adrenaline high, I didn’t think it was more over the top than most action films. Haven’t seen Spider-Man yet, so will stay out of here for a while.

Does Spiderman die in this one?

Wonder what increased % of people go to see these comic book films in the first week just to avoid "spoilers"? Marketing writes itself. If it wasn't for COVID I imagine there would have been midnight screenings, I've been to rather a lot. It is nice that most Marvel films come out before they do in the US at least, that helps avoiding spoilers.
Having said that, I fired up YouTube this afternoon after seeing the film and there was a major surprise just spoilt with phone camera footage at the top of my recommendations. I'd assume the account was banned.

Wonder what increased % of people go to see these comic book films in the first week just to avoid "spoilers"? Marketing writes itself. I know I've done it several times in the past. Not exclusively for Marvel movies though. After planning to watch Endgame on my day off 2 days after release, and spending one day at work listening to everyone talking about it, I went straight from work to the cinema, booking a ticket on my mobile on the train there and watched it that night. :-| That said, the only pre-covid Marvel movie I still haven't seen is Far From Home, so I probably need to watch that before the new one.

Just got home.
Spiderman was a film I enjoyed it very much. I reckon you will too! Go and watch it before spoilers are common place.
(It won't take long, my screening literally had 5 or 6 empty seats. So plenty of bellends will be watching it tonight).

Not technically MCU, but Marvel/Spider-Man related. First is still the best spider man film so I'm more than up for this. Original is on Film4 this Sunday evening BTW.

Most spoilers are leaked weeks, if not months in advance now anyways. The entire plot for NWH leaked in August and it turns out to have been spot on.

I find the way movie spoiler culture has evolved over the last decade or so to be deeply weird. I don't spoil things for other people (I don't want to be a dick), but... the trailers already do that. Better watch the trailer before the trailer spoilers come out!
And then there's the casting news, the social media, hell even the posters.
If you've somehow managed to maintain a monk-like existence away from all of this before and after release, all power to you. But for the rest of us, maybe the best thing to do is to stop giving a shit about spoilers for this kind of thing.

I feel bad for people who have to review these things, to somehow have to talk about how good they are without mentioning the plot.

I’m in two minds. There are clearly movies where knowing the twists can transform how you watch the entire thing, and while that as an effective technique is few and far between nowadays, it’s obviously a dick move to not use clear spoiler tags and so on, especially when it’s brand spanking new. Then there are people who use “spoiler” to mean “literally any detail they don’t know already” rather than something critical to the storytelling, where it really shouldn’t matter but the weird cult of spoilerdom has made it a thing. And then there are the people who are like the above but then actively participate in chats and threads about whatever it is they don’t want spoiled and then get outraged about it when the entire thread isn’t hidden behind spoiler tags. Or that it is and they decided to click anyway.

Same could be said for all sorts of entertainment, I once had friends watching football here on the Xbox 360 sky app and one of them had a text alert before the live stream showed the goal and started moaning at me for it. Also a lifetime of knowing people who work evenings and watch soap operas recorded, spoil the Free Deirdre or patio murder story and your looking at the end of days.

I think it's a bit different for TV. People get invested in the twists and turns of TV shows with longform narratives, talk about it with friends like some weekly ritual. I get that, I would have been annoyed if someone (for example) spoiled the season finale of Lost for me.
But even that is really hard with entire seasons dropping at once now. So you don't know what you can and can't fucking talk about because everyone is watching it at a different pace.

I honestly think this is a significant part of why Disney is doing 1 week at a time. I don't buy and have never bought the "it's better if you watch it one week at a time!!!" stuff (I'm sorry, I've binged or binge-rewatched too many shows to believe that), but clearly by doing it one week at a time, you reduce potential spoilers and increase potential discussion a very great deal.

I don’t separate them that much, it’s all entertainment and with the Marvel stuff I’m just happy seeing masses of cash is being pumped in and actually make me forget for a bit life’s crap these last few years.

I tend to find the more relaxed and less I care about spoilers the easier they are to avoid, whereas when my vigilance is on high I see spoilers everywhere because I’m alert to them and my attention is drawn to them.
If I knew I was seeing Spiderman at the weekend I’d inevitably see something big because I’d be on the look out not to see it but if I was resigned to not seeing it until its available stream I’ll get away with it.

If the twist isn't that every Spider-Man in the film is played by Nicholas Hammond then who really cares.

And the speculation and fan theories that build over the weeks are free marketing for a show. I do try to just wait until whole series are up, it’s a bit harder with the Disney shows as so many are talking about them every week.

It's nothing to do with spoilers and everything to do with the drip feed of content to keep people paying for subs.
If they drop all 8 episodes of a series, people sign up for a month, fuck off and then wait a year.
If I ever watch Hawkeye it'll be after all the episodes are out.

No Way Home was everything I'd hoped it would be. Absolutely loved it. Saw it at 9:30 this morning and have been thinking about it all day since.

You should watch Hawkeye, as long as they land the ending its going to have been probably the best Disney+ series

Watching Hawkeye and No Way Home a couple of days apart has been a huge thrill. I can't wait for everyone to have seen them so I can talk about them. Especially Spider-Man, because all the best bits of that film are really super spoilery plot stuff.

I just got home from it, and it’s just great. The audience cheered at certain points, and there’s some really lovely dialogue scenes and payoffs. I felt like the MCU was winding down after Endgame, and this movie provides a perfect conclusion to not just the first three “Phases”, but of every Spider-Man movie too.
I think the timing might have stolen thunder from Hawkeye, which had a significant reveal in episode 5, but this movie kind of acts as a companion there too in a ways.

I think there have been studies that suggest that not only do spoilers not put people off from seeing a movie, but actively drive interest in seeing it. That's why the trailers themselves often show the twist.

It's rare to hear people cheer in my cinema but this was one of the few to have an active crowd it seemed.

Biggest cheer in a UK cinema I've seen was the midnight screening of Endgame and Cap catches Mjolnir, place went nuts.
And so did I.

Japanese theater: total silence. As always. So, the end of the most recent episode of Hawkeye is yet more merging of different marvel properties. This kinda stuff tends to annoy me, such as in Mandalorian Season 2, but I'll give it a pass in this case.

The worst recent example I can think of is Bloodshot, the (terrible) Vin Diesel action movie. The 'twist' is moderately interesting and it's slap bang in the middle of the trailer.
