Japanese theater: total silence. As always.  So, the end of the most recent episode of Hawkeye is yet more merging of different marvel properties. This kinda stuff tends to annoy me, such as in Mandalorian Season 2, but I'll give it a pass in this case. The Netflix shows always claimed to be part of the MCU, we just never saw them feature outside of their shows. One of the first episodes of Daredevil references the Battle of New York from Avengers. |

Biggest cheer in a UK cinema I've seen was the midnight screening of Endgame and Cap catches Mjolnir, place went nuts. And so did I. I recall there was a bit of a buzz in my audience, but no actual cheer. There was a big collective gasp in my audience for Ultron when Vision picked up Mjolnir though. Only other real times I remember big audience reactions in a cinema were another big gasp at Ceaser saying "No" in Planet of the Apes and there was a bit of an applause at the end of the last Harry Potter (although that was at the big BFI IMAX in London). |

Generally British audiences don't cheer/jeer/shout much, but Endgame? There was a ton of it. Like, people were pleased when Thanos got decapitated, but yeah the biggest cheer was Cap with Mjolnir. The nosiest audience I've ever been part of was in Santa Monica in LA, we went to see American Pie on like, the second or third night it was open, and I was there to take my little sister (who was desperate to see it, she loved American teen movies, I mean who doesn't but she really did), and holy shit, it was wall-to-wall US college students, mostly white Frat boys, and oh my god that was looooouuuuud. |

Only time I've seen applause in a non-film-festival setting was the end of the Mad Dog fight scene in The Raid. That felt earned.
Disclaimer: I rarely see Marvel/Disney stuff at release, applause would probably be more common if I did

The only cheering I can remember in the cinema was for Detroit Rock City the Kiss movie but then me and my brother were the only two people (out of about 12) not wearing Kiss merch

Quoting myself from the depression thread Big step for me next week as I’ve asked my friend and his son if they would come to the cinema with me to watch spiderman. I was never a fan of cinemas before my issues but since they started (first film was rogue one) I always had to watch near the exit. I’ve only seen the other Star Wars sequels since, by myself at times I know it won’t be crowded. Massively looking forward to this, wish I could take my 4 year old as he loves the raimi films and also like Tom Hollands spiderman though he likes the films less. Is there going to be a streaming option? |

Before spidey the biggest cheer was Cap with Mjolnir, especially funny for me as I was sat next to my wife that really didn't like Cap (she really has a bee in her bonnet for him being self-rightous and she loves Thor, so to ger Cap is most definitely not worthy).
So the cinema whooped and my wife shouted NOOOO!!! I just smiled at him catching it and then chuckled at the contrast between her reaction and everyone else. She left the cinema thoroughly disappointed with the film!!!
Spidey cheer was on a far higher scale. Pretty much broke into applause and talking for 5 seconds.

I don't think Scandinavia is really concerned about nor suffering from dangerous cultural appropriation lol (cultural appropriation isn't inherently bad - everyone does it all the time - it's bad when a powerful culture takes stuff from a weaker one, esp. if there was colonial oppression involved - which there sure wasn't with Scandinavia, esp. given how many Americans are of Scandi heritage). Cap has a long history of being against the US doing bad things. To the point that in the late 1960s or early 1970s he basically "went rogue" and rode around America on a motorbike helping people rather than supporting the US government of the era (I think he maybe also grew a beard and got a more hippy-ish name, I'm not kidding btw this actually happened), and indeed they had to create a whole bunch of like "Bad Captain America"-types including US Agent to represent the US government from then on, because frankly, no-one trusts the US government. The MCU is actually slightly weird in that it ended up rolling this whole thing back a bit, and making things slightly more "pro-government" than the comics. Especially with the sad attempt to blame everything bad SHIELD ever did on "Hydra Infiltration" (I admit like three episodes of Agents of SHIELD did say "Well maybe not all the bad things were done by Hydra people", but they moved on very swiftly). |

A massive collective gasp when Caeser first says "nooooo" in Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
I read in YouTube comments about a cinema going nuts during a showing of The Wrath of Khan when reliant has her shields dropped and matey can't raise them - that gave me chills just reading it!

I was fairly put off by the whole idea of a Captain America movie, until I actually saw it. I think anyone who’s still thinking he’s all about rah-rah patriotism and blind obedience has not seen even one of the movies. It’s just prejudice. They’re among the very best MCU movies.
Given they have the same directors, you can draw a direct line between Cap 2, 3 and Infinity War and Endgame. Before Civil War, if you’d told me one of these movies could juggle dozens of characters and not be a bloated turd, I’d never have believed it. Cap 3 showed there might be a chance that Avengers 3 and 4 could even work.
(In fairness, Endgame only had to deal with the core Avengers for most of it, but there were still dozens of balls in the air and of course they all drop into place at the end.)
