OK some very brief testing on the XBox version in performance mode.
Game doesn't seem to screen tear as much. Performance possibly slightly improved,it felt slightly more responsive.
In 60hz mode the TV was still showing large frame drops with fps going lower than the VRR range of 48fps, so showing signs of stutter still.
Putting the TV in 120hz mode resulted in a fairly smooth screen pan. I assume the low framerate compensation of the xbox kicked in here and really helped. I couldn't see any screen tearing any more. Please remember if you have a PS then it doesn't have this feature.
I would say if you have a 120hz set and VRR, then it may well be worth playing now. You will still get frame spikes as the game loads in data during traversal etc.
If you want to play in performance mode and don't have a 120hz set, or VRR enabled TV, then you are going to need to wait some time longer.
Personally, I will be waiting a while longer yet.
I should note, I only tested for about 15mins. Digital Foundry I am not.

I will report back on the Series X version once I have had a chance to test it and I'm not stuck at work I'm thinking of leaving the game for a bit, only played 2 hours ? (on first planet) plenty more to play, hopefully the patches will improve some things. I started Kena on Sunday, feck me that is a good looking game (ps5 version) and also have GWT to get through, only on chapter 3, enjoyable game too much side content but otherwise really enjoying the "laid back" gameplay. I also started Redfall but that is not for here!  |

Played a bit of the Holo-Tactics mini game last night. Two opponent characters still to meet, fun but a bit repetitive.
Getting the "They're Probably Fine" achievement was a complete accident, I swear. Sorry, Spammel-Friend.

I was that tired last night that to my shame, I found the Fractured Resolve challenge and struggled to find the gimmick so I had to look it up. Cleared it first try once I knew.
Really impressed with how much is in the big opening area of Kobol. Wonder if other planets are as big

Crazy that this actually feels smoother and more responsive in quality mode at the minute. Dunno if it's the high quality motion blur but it feels a lot better than pretty much any other 30fps game I've played on PS5. I've been trying to hold off to see if they fix performance mode but I'll probably bite the bullet and just play in quality. Even if they get performance mode to hit a stable 60 I'm not sure I could take the hit to the graphics, it looks absolutely awful compared to quality.

Yeah, it's very good. Really not seeing any major issues on PS5 since the patch 2 days ago, with VRR and everything enabled on the tv.

Feels consistently smoother than 30 to me. Looks a bit worse, yeah, and still some screen tear (but less than pre-patch).

So, I'm someone for whom Star Wars generally does very little. I don't hate it or anything, I wish it well! But it's not going to be a huge draw for me.
So, in that case, is this worth a look? I have heard that the previous one at least was a bit like Dark Souls. I've no idea whether that's accurate or not, but I might give it a go if the combat is good.

Did you turn off film grain, motion blur and chromatic abbaration?
I have tried it on the Series X in performance mode and I think the game looks quite sharp to me. And I am usually quite fussy with these things and certainly notice poor performance and blurry images.
You also have to remember that the Series X has low framerate compensation. I imagine this will make it feel different to the PS5 version on a 120hz enabled TV. Basically when the game hits lows of 40fps, the Xbox actually doubles the frames so its an output of 80 fps. This helps to smooth everything out.
And yes, for those that only have a 60hz TV and no VRR, then I recommend you either: a) play in quality mode and accept a fairly stable 30fps. b) wait for many more updates and pray it gets better.
