Maybe the performance issues in the first one are to blame for my many deaths in the ice caverns. JUMP TO THE FUCKING SIDES!

I hope those folk getting annoyed about Eurogamer not giving this a recommendation are enjoying themselves, at least.

Drops to 15fps in quality mode. Drops in the 30 to 40fps range in performance mode. They may as well of made a visual novel. Or.....the sensible thing would of been to not implement Ray tracing on consoles. The current gen of consoles are just not powerful enough for Ray tracing (with a very select few exceptions).

Or spend more than 2 minutes optimising it.

Some users saying performance still poor despite VRR on, what's going on there? I thought VRR was supposed to smooth dips out or have I misunderstood what it actually does?

VRR has a window it can operate in. 45-60 or 48-60 depending on console and set. If the FPS drops lower it can’t do it’s thang.

Ah, so Jedi Survivor is really dropping a bollock then

I have a VRR display. The game has a very erratic performance, the FPS lurches all over the places with many spikes downwards. It also has very ugly screen tearing at all times.
Something is very much not right with this game, at least on the SeriesX. I assume the PS5 is very much the same.
I think this is going to take a miracle personally or many patches over the next 12 months to get it into good shape, and then I'm not hopeful at all.
The DF article showed that FPS could drop as low as 15fps in quality mode. I mean, fuck a duck that's bad.

Fuck this noise. Think I'll just have a look when it drops on EA access in a year.

Got the game for free with my 7800X3D but giving up for now. Fps is all over the place but it’s the constant traversal stutter that’s killing me.

Apparently assuming you have a capable screen, you can set the series X to output at 120fps and it increases the VRR range eliminating some of the drops and tearing.

Due to the xboxs low framerate compensation it makes things much better. It still doesn't eliminate the stutter though and so it's still not ideal.

Fallen order was pretty good Addy, as someone that likes souls games I think you will find quite a lot to like. The new one would be better in every way if they fixed the abysmal performance though.

Yeah not sure why I've never played it. Its cheap as chips now as well. Will probably get it once I'm back from my hols.

I picked it up for £10, I didn't get past the 4 hour mark, just found it too sluggish to warrant playing any further. I was a bit annoyed as I was looking forward to playing it after a couple of pals said they enjoyed it.

Pc patch makes a big difference to framerate, it's actually fairly smooth on my pc now. Fsr seems like it on even when it's off though which is a bit odd.

Such is the state of performance it's hard to see them completely elimating the issues through optimization alone on consoles.
It needs an RT toggle, basically. The lighting is lovely, but the latest DF video comparing the non RT Series S version really highlights how minimal it's impact is on the visuals in places (feel DF evangelise it's impact a little too much, personally). I'd happily take a non RT mode if it claws back the performance the game so desperately needs on Series X and PS5.

Yeah runs a lot smoother now. I don’t get it, everything launches broken but gets fixed in a matter of days or weeks. So why do they release in that state in the first place? Lack of hardware to test on?

It's no wonder why reviewers don't bother talking about performance and leave it to the likes of DF post release; if the state on release day is bad, it must be abysmal a week or two earlier when the review code is sent out.
I wouldn't be surprised if performance is something specified as a no go area for them anyway, with the excuse that a patch will be released on launch.

Apparently there is a patch incoming for xbox on Tuesday (and I assume PlayStation, but cannot verify). Not getting my hopes up, but fingers crossed. It does say increased performance in the patch notes.

If I pumped through the game with its issues over the weekend only to have most supposedly fixed on the Mon/Tues then I would be feeling pretty wick.
Only performance mode on a game I've played that drops 60fps regularly. Leaving that aside, I'm enjoying it a fair bit. Absolutely made the right call in making sure you keep all your force powers from the get go.

I'll say one thing, the in-game video sequences are absolutely stunning, might be the best I've seen. If Cal didn't sport my customised haircut/beard combo (he looks like Peter Dinklage dressed up as Mark Hamill), I'd be convinced they must be pre-rendered.
