So, 2022 is almost finished. Some may say it’s been a relatively quiet year, but we had some big hitters like God of War, Elden Ring, Xenoblade 3 amongst others. If your wallet has felt quite stress free this year it might be in a for a world of pain next year. The first half looks ducking stacked.
Some noticeable releases.
PSVR2 One Piece Odyssey Monster Hunter Rise Fire Emblem Engage: Forspoken: Dead Space Remake Hogwarts Legacy Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line Wild Hearts Dragon Ishin Octopath Traveler II Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe Atomic Heart Atelier Ryza 3 Destiny II: Lightfall Scars Above The Last of Us Part I PC Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Fatal Frame 4 The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon Star Wars: Jedi Survivor Resident Evil 4 Remake Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC Dead Island 2 The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Street Fighter 6 Diablo IV Final Fantasy XVI.
And that’s just the first half. Nintendo havn’t announced their slate of games for 2023 yet. Suspect Advance Wars might finally get released. Will see a Switch 2? Metroid Prime 4?
Microsoft might finally release some games next year. They have Starfield , Redfall, Alan Wake 2 , and Minecraft Legends amongst others releasing.
Indie wise, anything can happen. Silksong is the obvious most anticipated release but off the top of my head there’s sea of stars and schim which look great too.
So what takes your fancy?

I've spotted the incoming Hogwarts Legacy for the ten-year-old's PS4, so that'll probably get grabbed.
For myself, I don't really buy games anymore. I'm paying each month for Game Pass Ultimate, and have even started to use my MS Rewards points to partly fund that (rather than buying actual games with the points), so I'll probably just stick with that.
Significant games on my own horizon: all the next Bethesda games, so, TES, FO and Star-Thingy, whenever they appear over the next few years. Yes: I know I'm probably setting myself up for disappointment, as their games have been decreasingly "good" since TES IV and FO III, but I still love them!
Otherwise, it really will just be a case of something really getting my attention.

From that list, Octopath, Wo Long, Zelda and FF16 seem painfully obvious. Advance Wars as well if it does come out. Possibly also Forspoken, Jedi Survivor, Return to Dreamland DX and Fire Emblem Engage (although I have no idea if the latter is supposed to be a main series title or a spin-off...)
Oh and Hades 2, although I've got a feeling it won't exit early access until 2024

I'll probably make a strong bid for the BOFF (Boring Old Fart, Fontgeek) award as the only thing on my radar is
Field of Glory: Kingdoms
I might buy an airplane for MS Flight Sim around Thanksgiving.
More seriously, Atomic Heart and Dead Island 2 look like fun and could be in the mix.

As a beta Destiny player, I might grab the expansion but I'll only keep coming back for the following seasons if they radically shake up the seasonal model. I'd usually have bought the deluxe edition by now but might even wait and see if it'll come to PS+ instead.
Diablo 4 if it doesn't come to GP RE4, Zelda and possibly the DS remake are all that are tempting me so far (that won't be free on GP etc)
I'll probably just catch up on other games from this year in fairness. Evil West, Callisto Protocol, Midnight Suns, NFS, cult of the lamb etc.

Final Fantasy 16 and Breath of the Wild 2 are the two titles I’m looking forward to most next year. I think I could easily buy a majority of that list outright but need to be sensible and save with looking to get on the housing market next year. So I think it be ps+ and deep sale games for me with some indies. Putting a tenner a month aside for FF16 and Zelda 2.
/must stop looking at psvr 2.

Definite purchases:
The Witcher 3 (assuming they actually release the bloody thing!) Monster Hunter Rise (if a physical release comes along at some stage) Inscryption (physical version rumoured) The Legend of Bum-bo (ibid)
Possible purchases:
Wild Hearts (depending upon review scores/gameplay footage/etc.) Cult of the Lamb (probably saved for a rainy day, if I get it at all)
Already-announced games I want to buy [that almost certainly won't come out in 2023]:
Control 2 Hades II Death Stranding 2 GTA 6 Max Payne 1/2 remakes New Tomb Raider Dragon's Dogma 2

"Atomic Heart" should be interesting. I doubt that I'll buy it on release, but I will certainly have a good look at the reviews.
"Witchfire" might come out, but I'm not sure about that one. Looks very nice, but the gameplay doesn't look that convincing yet.
And most likely "Amnesia - The Bunker" when it comes out in March (?). I assume it will be 30 € or less again.
Otherwise I have way too many games on the wishlist that might also release in 2023, but I don't think there's anything that I'm properly hyped for.

The Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Hades 2, Wo Long, Atomic Heart and Diablo IV are the obvious choices for me, while I'd be watching out for Forspoken (will check out that demo later), Dead Space Remake (maybe I'll dig out and play the original first), Hogwarts Legacy (waiting to learn about the single-player campaign first), Suicide Squad (could be a sleeper hit, but I'm not too thrilled about the live service vibes I get), Star Wars: Jedi Survivor (once I finish the original) and Armoured Core 6 (never played one before, but come on, it's FROM, I must check it out). Also, where's the Elden Ring DLC?!?

Definitely getting these on Nintendo Switch Fire Emblem Engage + DLC BotW2 TofK (+ any DLC) Persona 3 & 4 Xenoblade Chronicles 3 story DLC Advance Wars (if it ever gets released) Even just those would keep me occupied all year. What a stacked first half!

Actually new games? Maybe Octopath Traveller 2.
Maaaaaaaaaybe FFXVI. Depending on how future impressions go. Not really into the ARPG approach but maybe it'll be good? Also depends if the PC version is not-shit.
I will likely get the CP2077 expansion.
Aside from that I'm just going to look for cheap games I haven't yet played. RDR2 is now getting cheap enough for me to consider. Maybe Sonic Frontiers. Still need to get Tunic. If it appears really cheap (like sub 15 quid, so perhaps unlikely in the next year) might give Elden Ring a go, but I expect I wouldn't like it much.

Definitely Dead Space and Resident Evil 4
That will probably keep me going most of the year

FF16 is a no-brainer for me, and I'll see how I feel about Forspoken after the demo. I loved Resi 4, but I can't seem to gel much with horror these days. I think it might be down to the fact that I just felt happier with those sorts of games when the graphics were much less, well, graphic.
Hanging out with Idris Elba in 2077 sounds like a good time, and the Xenoblade 3 DLC will be in the mix too. BotW2... eh, I guess that's a maybe.

Just Breath of the Wild II.
Mayyyybe Diablo 4 but after i) every Blizzard release being plagued with issues for months until they fix stuff and ii) articles this week pretty much guarateeing that (i) is going to happen, that's probably a 2024 purchase.

Atomic heart is interesting me. Starfield.
But that's about it from that list.
Hopefully, game pass will ping up some interesting stuff.
I guess most big games will be later in the year.
This year wasn't too bad with some decent spread of titles through the year instead of all at once, albeit not much that *really* grabbed me. Getting too old for it now possibly! 😀

Final Fantasy XVI is top of the list, and nothing else comes closes.
Then it’s Breath of the Wild 2, Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, and Starfield.

Probably just Lightfall. Other than that, I'm very likely to buy several older games on sale, and you never know what those are gonna be.
Atomic Heart, Stalker 2 (assuming it manages to come out in time) and a couple others look interesting, but realistically, I'm just gonna grab a few Game Pass months to rinse them.
On a side note, I do think we'll get Switch 2 news at some point next year, but I doubt it will come out in 2023. They'll probably do another end-of-fiscal-year release, like the 3DS and Switch.

Especially Ishin, which I’ve waited ages for. Probably will get Suicide Squad also. Wasn’t interested originally, but if it’s Kevin Conroy’s final performance as Batman, I need to check it out.

Isn't there a Borderlands style vampire themed Arkane game coming out? If there's offline single player, that could be good. I don't want to research it because I don't want to be disappointed

Definitely: Anything from Fromsoft (ER DLC AC etc) Silksong (if it comes out) Jedi Survivor (loved the first game)
Interested but will wait and see Hogwarts Resi 4 Diablo 4 (usually would be all over it but feel a bit cautious about Blizzard games these days) FF16
Not interested New Ass Creed game (Didn’t enjoy Valhalla; loved previous 2)
Wish I could but don’t have the right system: New Zelda Starfield
