On a similar note Moss are doing a shooter based on Ms. Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. Well, technically it's Kaminari Games but since they're the company of Jin Hoshino who has been director of every Raiden game since 3 as well as Caladrius Blaze, it's another one of their games. Bizarre choice of property but there we go!
Played a bit more of Kuro no Kiseki and the engine's still terrible but they're doing better with the story and I'm starting to understand the battles a bit better. It was always fun to go through areas much later in the game and just destroy enemies on the field and they're letting you do that much earlier on, as well as being able to get a massive advantage against equal enemies. As a result, combined with changes like you moving the character directly for attacks, it does seem to make up most of the time you lose by not being able to skip attack animations. Area transitions take far too long for something running on a PS5 but you do get less of them and the expanded warp mechanics do help.
The Stranger of Paradise second demo appeared on Xbox and Playstation; it's still a mess technically but they've got even more snap in the controls. If they can sort out the framerate which is bad on Xbox (but partially saved by VRR) and frankly unacceptable on PS5, then they've got something great in there. Music is still really excellent, too - the best in a game of this genre I've played. Disappointed by the choice of an Epic Store exclusive but frankly I think that if they're getting this released in March, I assume for financial year stuff, by the time it comes to Steam it'll be in much better shape. If they're doing the FF universe stuff they're implying, then the season pass stuff will be well worth tackling too, so I'd like to do that all together as well.

Curious how Monark is with some exSMT Devs and out now in Japan. There is a Japanese demo but not been awake enough to try it out yet. Localised version is next year.

Just quickly regarding the Stranger of Paradise demo uiriki mentioned above, I found both the framerate and resolution much lower on Series X than on PS5, in either Quality or Performance mode. Maybe not having a VRR television exposed it more, but the state of the Series X version was terrible, IMO. It felt as if I were playing on a launch Xbox One.
Anyway, I bought Gleylancer and it is good but tough. Glad it's finally localised.

Back to FFXIII style, where the machine that usually does best fails at the latest FF game, albeit with less excuses this time being in the same architecture. Thanks for the Gleylancer reminder, I had meant to get that a few days ago but forgotten so will check to see if still got launch discount.

FFXIII was just a reversal of usual development practice, practically nothing was developed for the PS3, at the end of it's life something like 90%+ of the releases on the system were still ports.
In that respect FFXIII is an oddity, a disastrous oddity on an engine that ended up getting quickly canned besides a couple of spin-off sequels.

I think I'll be waiting for the inevitable 'complete edition' of Stranger of Paradise on its release on Steam. The second demo ran so much worse than the first, even in the same area doing the same things.
Haven't tried the Monark demo yet, I'm a little over 100 hours into Kuro no Kiseki and it's still not finished. Looking over the quick guide I'm using for reference don't want to miss anything on a 120 hour game playthrough) I've got 21 boss encounters left.

Briefly tried Monark. It's very, very, very slow.

More than just using the PS3 version being lead console, if memory serves, I believe they completed the PS3 version, and the localisation before they even began work on the 360 version. It was a rush job. The sequels had a lot more parity between the consoles.

There are rumours of a Chrono Cross 'Remake', which is interesting it may indicate that Square Enix are continuing to move beyond the SNES and Final Fantasy chunk of back catlogue and looking at other games. I'm so sick of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts at this point, anything that's none of the above is welcome.
If this is true, hopefully Nomura is kept well away from this and the original art direction isn't messed with too much.

Did people like Cross? I thought it was Trigger people wanted a remake of.
Give me Xenogears instead. Or Vagrant Story.

It's a bit of an odd schism, I'm pretty certain there's a hard core of Chronos Cross fans who dislike Trigger just as much as the Trigger fans dislike Cross.
Xenogears is pretty unlikely, the game is a mess, they basically gave up before it was finished, hence the lack of game versus cut-scenes on disc two.
Vagrant Story is ready and waiting to see what an 'AI upscaler' can do. Sub 20fps on high-end consoles I bet.

Sure, but they could always contract Takahashi to complete his vision. Make it Nintendo exclusive if they have to.

I like Chrono Cross, or maybe I'm just one of those people who could never really gel with Chrono Trigger. I think it was mostly the soundtrack that kept me going though. The battle system was pretty weird too, and not in a great way.
But it sounds like it will be a remaster, not a remake. So I don't think they will change much.

It is really fascinating that you've got Chrono Trigger Fans who dislike Chrono Cross and visa versa. I think it has less to do with the games than the upheaval following Sony's entry into the market.
What was the followup to the SNES? The N64? No, not really. The true successor to the SNES was the PS1, which was a problem for a lot of people which did colour their perception of certain games. I had an N64 but never a SNES so I was on the outside looking in for the whole sorry show.

The PlayStation was interesting because in ways it was a successor to both the SNES and the Mega Drive. It did have the sequels to many franchises which made their name on Nintendo consoles, but it also had that "video games are cool/for teenagers and adults" vibe Sega went for.

Definitely, the AD with Crash Bandicoot outside Nintendo Headquarters was pure 90s Sega tude'.

It seems kind of pointless when the PS4 version of 13 Sentinels is regularly on sale, it's currently $29.99 brand new and you can probably do better if you wait for a bargain.

Atlus continuing their quest to port every game other than P5 to the Switch. I'd rather they port every other Vanillaware game to Switch before they touch Persona 5. Muramasa, Odin Sphere, Dragon's Crown, Princess Crown... where the Switch ports?

What's wrong with the exclusive Atlus games already on Nintendo platforms? Always the port begging.
At this point, if you don't own something that can play PS4 games it's basically a self inflicted injury, it's your fault for buying the platform which supports less of the games you want. You know it's Nintendo and some stuff just won't make it over unless Nintendo sticks their thumb on the scale first.

I don't even care about P5, it's just weird to me ebcause it's their best-selling game by a landslide, you'd think they would want to milk it for all its worth before they start thinking about the less famous titles.

Also, an Atlus rep has specifically said in the past that "if fans want Persona 5 on Switch they have to let us know" so I don't really get the complaints about "port begging" (which is a really dumb thing to complain about anyway)
Persona has always been a handheld series for me, and I have no interest in getting a PS4 or gaming on a big TV these days
(Maybe next year when Elden Ring comes out I'll think about a PS5)

Muramasa Complete for Switch please!
I wouldn't object to the Persona games either but Muramasa needs a rerelease.

Anybody play the Little Witch Academia game? It's on sale for a couple more days, and wondering whether it's worth picking up.

For the first time ever I got a ping from PSN Tales of Berseria I wishlisted was on sale, saw it was for pennies and immediately bought it with the money I had in my wallet.
Played for a couple of hours, itās really lovely. Though the combat system seems wank? It showers me with explanations for combat mechanics I canāt use yet using lots of made up words.
I wonāt play now, though, Iāve still got Arise to finish. What it has managed to teach me, though, is press square to map, which Arise itself hasnāt been able to teach me in the 30 hours Iāve played it.
