This is a bit bloody good now I've been able to sit down and play for an extended session. Almost shit myself with my first Droid Mantis, and as I completed a lap of Medical got swarmed by mutants.

So how are the controls for this then? Is all the UI stuff on the analogue stick and is there a lot of menuing/inventory management? Only thing that stopped me buying (think it was Digital Foundry that mentioned it)
Also, probably old news at this point, wunty, but with regards to horror games, the Stalker trilogy is on consoles now. Only played Call of Pripyat so far but it feels pretty solid (for a Stalker game). Apparently there's potentially enhancements/mod support on console coming

Apparently there's potentially enhancements/mod support on console coming Controls for movement and combat are all fine. But you do have the situation where you have to piss about a bit moving stuff in the inventory. It's mainly a faff when you're using the recycler when selecting what items to recycle. But you're not recycling a lot really, not say, like the amount you do in Prey. But yeah, it's still a bit of a faff. On the other hand, the game is very good though and outweighs the faff overall imo. But ymmv.

Controls are fine imo. As quad says a bit faffy inventory wise but it’s really very minor. The game itself is, quite simply, fucking brilliant.

Just started this on PS5 and yeah, the inventory is a faff. Think I accidentally auto trashed a bunch of crap by misreading and holding R2 on the inventory screen... And no idea about the recycling system or how it works due to it not being in the original (which I haven't played for over a decade)
One quick query though, are emails actually scrollable on console without a mouse? I have not figured out how to scroll bar down despite trying all the buttons (I think)
I think the last PC demo I tried of this must have been the first one as this looks more old school than I remember that one being.

I think I managed to scroll down emails but can't remember what the button is. Have you tried the dpad?

It might not be dpad but I'm sure something does it. It might also need specific cursor placement just to make it a bit more fiddly

Also figured out the glitch re the scrap all junk button, ifbyou have any scrap already you lose it as it gets junked which cost me a bit of early scrap. Finished off Medical pretty thoroughly now, after a few bits of confusion with some of the circuit puzzles but think I have my head around them now.

Still plodding away at this. I’m in maintenance trying to figure out what to fix so I can jettison the groves. It really is a game that requires you to pay maximum attention.

Trying to think how to describe it. From the starting point, you sort of go south, near where the recycler is, then go east for a bit and slightly up where you get to a sort of maze like area. In there, there's a small space/alcove where it looks like there is nothing but if you click the far wall (so you'd be facing east at this point) it'll open. If you have security on 1% or higher, it'll just say, "Blocked by Shodan security". Basically click on all the walls in the lower east quadrant

Done that so back up to executive to jettison the groves. Man. It’s still so bloody good. I’m taking my time with it to really savor it.

I should definitely replay this. More powerful desktop (the laptop barely hit 60fps even at low settings), ultrawide, and revised ending, should be well worth it.

Well. Engineering is a bit of a step up isn’t it. Full of absolute bastards and it’s one hell of a maze. Finally thought I was clearing it out then went back to an area and it was filled with cyborg enforcers that keep spawning in.
Need to find the cargo lift as I dumped explosives in there ages ago.

I tried elden ring last night and that was a lesson in frustration again so I might flip to this again.
I can't remember what engineering is like until I get there. It's like visiting an old friend and working out what the fuck is going on!

Turns out I can't recall Engineering at all. I probably blocked it out due to trauma. Mk2 Security robots, Cyborg Enforcers, Cyborg Warriors, Assassins, Mantis's EVERYWHERE. It's a bloody maze as well. It's hell. Absolute hell.
Love it.

I used maintenance as my main storage point as it has good connections to every area. There's the big central room with a recycler and tons of boxes. Just chucked stuff I didn't need in there.

Having a major issue with reload and interact being on the same button, I never have any fing batteries!! Beta Grove was a right 'mare! Had to youtube the area so I could go straight to the charger and scout from there.

Oof, doing something like this was a bad idea in the original, as Manteinance (next to Reactor) was one of the most respawn-heavy levels, and those invisible mutants were total bastards. Can't recall if the remake toned it down. Me, I usually just dumped stuff in various places around Cargo or Flight Deck... most of it I knew I wasn't actually going to pick up again anyway. Anyway, I've restarted the remake, cleared Medical and up to Research now. I still find recycling a real hindrance, because it compels me to fill my inventory with junk. Cyberspace is also filler-ish and longer than it needs to be. Other than that, it's still the System Shock I love. Fun times.

Am I right in saying dropping the level security to zero stops the respawning?

Am I right in saying dropping the level security to zero stops the respawning? I don't think so. I think (and may be wrong as I'm talking out of my ass really) respawning is tied in part to events, such as clearing a major milestone, which usually spawns tougher enemies in places you must revisit, and also some randomizing in order to keep the levels from feeling empty. That said, it doesn't look like respawning can happen just anywhere. For example, robot enemies in level R seem to usually appear in the area between the elevator and the resurrection chamber. I'm sure some wiki trudging would clear this up, but I prefer to make up my own theories. Heh.

Am I right in saying dropping the level security to zero stops the respawning? Actually I originally wrote yes but I don't think it does. Maintenance isn't that bad for it though, in the remake at least. The storage room I used is really close to 2 elevators as well, so I never really ran into enemies travelling to and fro.

I'm not sure it does either. I want to say it seems to do it in specific areas but considering I can't even remember what levels there are, I think my info is a bit tenuous at best!
