Something tells me the motion sickness will be strong with this one. Do you get motion sickness when walking irl user Jambo, knowing that we're already in a simulation? No? Then what do you know?!?!

Reminds me of the "photorealistic" Ride 4, but then you realise most of the realism is created by camera wobble, which is surely absent during normal gameplay.

But it’s an FMV game, right?

You do have first-person cams in-game, but they're more stable to make it remotely playable--and yeah, that makes it feel less real: Still, Milestone did a grand job there, especially with the weather conditions. It doesn't look quite as real in dry conditions imo. It uses Unreal Engine 4 btw.

The lighting is very good, though. It's probably the most important thing that impresses people in this video.

Lighting makes all the difference. Its one of huge strengths RE7 had in building its atmosphere, especially in that Beginning Hour demo where you (mostly) didn’t see any character models.

The lighting still feels a tad game-engine-y, but it's pretty good. The corpses don't cast realistic shadows which made them feel out of place. I think that's one of the problems with realistic graphics, every little detail has to be perfect, just one little imperfection and it feels weird. For me it's the baked shading on some of the clothing textures that stick out as unrealistic. But it honestly doesn't matter, it's not the graphics per se, which are no better than a myriad of games already out. It's the attention to how it's graphics are framed. Tarkov has had way beyond this level of detailed environments since it's early alpha days, but the combination of detail, lit in a low contrast, cloudy day flat light, framed by a body camera vignette with some slight fisheye and some realistic hand movements is some real chef kiss attention to the details that make a first person game seem more realistic. I'm thoroughly impressed from an artistic point of view by that combination of things, despite the grim nature of the game and it's apparent setting. I think all that is irrelevant and we're going to be seeing a lot of this type of visual context re-imagining going forward in all types of first person games, whether fantasy or realistic.

DF touch on this in their latest video. Totally real, according to them, plus Alex wasn't that blown away by it.

It's a bit weird that the 'proof' video doesn't really show any proof, like actually editing or deleting objects, and basically just replays the main video backwards and forwards. Though a lot of the static screenshots they show near the end do look much more gamey.
Not saying it's not real, but I feel like it could also have been made with clever video editing. Though I dunno why anyone would bother. (But I feel that way about 90% of youtube so...)

I enjoy video game violence as much as the next would be school shooter but the thought of ultra realistic shooters doesn't appeal to me at all. Outside of being technically impressive (which I don'think that video particularly is), it's more uncomfortable to watch than anything else. Photorealistic human gore will just be fucking weird and nasty
