From the EG preview:
The rival AC battles were enjoyable for the pseudo-PvP intimacy of fighting a comparably equipped opponent, analysing their build choices on the fly (the full game will support 1v1 and 3v3 online multiplayer, though we didn't get to try this out at the event - From is keen that this be perceived as a singleplayer-driven Armored Core).

I'm really surprised at all the attention this is getting, the ten year hiatus and the increased prominence of Fromsoftware might finally be Armored Core's chance. Hopefully that ten year break gave them a chance to rethink some things regarding how the games play.
It's the addition of flying that's the problem, the camera and controls could never keep up with what you are trying to do, such as trying to land on a slender walkway within a superstructure whilst dodging enemy fire and not smashing into anything yourself. Oh well, they figured how to make games where you hide behind walls work pretty well in the ten year span between Winback and the Gears & Uncharted games etc. Maybe the era of the jet pack games is finally upon us.

The mission structure sounds strange I must say, like some last as long as 2-3 minutes. I'll be intrigued to see how it reviews honestly.

If it's anything like Nioh's missions (haven't watched the videos) it could work pretty well Well i think the difference is it's not a semi open world game like Sekiro, they're discrete sectioned off missions where at your base which is just a menu screen allows you to chose your loadout and you select the mission, complete it, screen fades to black and your back at the menu screen.

That sounds pretty close to Nioh/Wo Long then, yeah (although those at least had a world map, not just a menu screen) We'll see how it goes...

Yeah that's all we can do really. At the very least the customisation seems to be pretty ridiculous.

I think I’ve only ever played the one AC game that appeared on 360. Can’t remember which number it was. Seem to recall it being pretty average though.
I’m not a massive fan of the jet boot powered ninja robots this seems to have. Prefer my mechs big and stompy.
I’m just holding out for a Battletech port or a new Front Mission. Only have MW5 to fill my mech needs at the moment.

You can build bigger and stompier. You will always have the jets though.

I have not played an AC game but was interesting to hear from multiple perspectives that 2-3 minutes for missions is almost nothing new. The mindset is that you're not meant to think of it like an action adventure but like a fighting game. And how you wouldn't complain that a round in SF6 was only 90 secs.

Come to think of it it'll probably be jarring even if you're used to the Nioh/Wo Long structure I mentioned above, for some reason I completely missed the 2-3 minute part and I don't remember any missions being that short there (even those that were only boss fights usually took a little longer) Still, I'd imagine not all missions would be that short, surely there's some beefier ones in there... Or maybe it's a quantity over length deal?

Sounds like there are longer missions for sure, but interspersed are these fairly short missions. If people are hoping for Dark Souls but mechs, they'll be disappointed. I've also heard it described as Gran Turismo for mechs, a lot of time spent in the garage fine tuning mechs to get that optimal best rank on a mission

Weirdly the thought of short missions really appeals to me. Saw it on one thing somewhere that it feels like jumping in to do the side missions in MGSV, only these are the main missions, but they are over just as quick. I quite like the thought of that. For me personally I can't see any souls DNA in there at all, which I'm quite happy about. Just looks like Fromsoft making another fucking brilliant game. If ACV was backward compatible, I'd grab it for the Xbox to play through first. As it is, I'm quite keen based on what I've seen of this.

I quite like mechs. Used to love Gundam but this looks kind of lifeless. It's just all metal everywhere and there's no colour. Gives off serious mecha nerd only vibes

I like that. Can't be doing with all those silly cartoon like mechs. Give me serious mechs or don't give me any.

I'm going in imagining it being more like Ace Combat, with the initial loadout and a degree of flexibility about how you choose to tackle missions of varying size and duration, with a degree of signposting. Or perhaps even EDF to an extent.

Yep, you can customise the paint on parts and also apply decals and patterns in the last few Armored Core games.
Custom decals should be there too... But these days that's probably off the table, the prospect of somebody playing with a mech covered in Swastikas or something and the media getting hold of it is too horrifying for most publishers to deal with.
