Xbox Games Showcase & Starfield Direct (Sunday June 11 2023)

I think there's great stuff on the PS5 and the weird obsessive commitment to GaaS as first party games aside I'm confident Sony will have some bangers still to come. They have good studios working on stuff definitely not revealed. At the same time it's good to see Microsoft actually showing the fruits of their studio acquisitions finally and I'm excited to play them. As a gamer everyone wins. Games as a service needs to fuck off and die though.

I'd read that it's a 3rd person action game where you hunt supernatural monsters.

No arguments on GaaS. In terms of PS5 exclusives though (obviously there's also a lot of great non-exclusive stuff) a lot of it seems to be either a couple years old, remasters/collections/what have you, or both from what I could find (GoW: Ragnarok and Horizon aside, but then again you could make an argument that these two are enough).

We do have FF16 and the new Spider-Man coming up though, so they seem to have a good start lined up.

1TB Series S needs to be same price or cheaper than current one to shift units. Unless they're banking on Starfield to be the next gaming zeitgeist, which it may well be.

No UK price but its $50 more than the current one so I'm pretty confident it will be £50 more here.

Trailer aside (which could be just the Xbox showcase one uploaded onto their channel), even the official site only mentions Xbox and Windows right now. That's weird. Unless MS is outright funding the game.

I agree that it’s weird. And maybe not exactly wise, unless they got a nice bag from MS. I do think more Japanese developed games should release on Xbox, but I’m not sure if they should be exclusive because the audiences for them, Atlus in particular, is on PS and Nintendo. But we’ll see how it plays out.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s another Lost Odyseey or Tales of Vesperia though, where people don’t play them because they weren’t available elsewhere. At least in Vesperia’s case, it eventually got ported and found an audience.

That was a pretty good show. A lot of stuff visually looked really good (both art style and just graphical fidelity). Also, there seemed to be a little more variety than the other shows had.

Starfield was more interesting than I was expecting as well. I'm not sold that the story and characters will be in anyway interesting, but at least it seemed to all be presented with a bit more finesse than their past games (let's hope that wasn't just the marketing team for the showcase).

Really liked the look of Clockwork Revolution. Always liked the Bioshock games and this seems to be injecting a bit more of the Arkane immersion sim into it too.

Disappointing that there was no showing from id.

Ah, I did notice the interesting choice of t-shirt. That would be great if they could do to Hexen what they did with Doom 2016.
