That was... not great. No Splinter Cell, which was the main thing I wanted to see, and everything that was shown left me cold.
T-minus 3.5 hours until the Capcom event, though!
Which... yeah. [Insert wet fart sound as applicable.]
I mean, it wasn't bad per se, but it definitely felt anticlimactic. Even the Dragon's Dogma II section at the end involved replaying the trailer we saw at the Xbox PlayStation showcase, then playing chunks of it again with a voiceover talking about the improvements made versus the original game; moreover, said list of adjustments basically boiled down to, "Technology has improved in the past decade, if you can believe that shit." |

I did enjoy the last Trials game a ton (even on Switch), but they’re working on something it’s probably a live service version of the game. It’s clearly been creeping that way for a long time.

They did show some games not in the original last year rather than just a bunch of interviews.

I wasn’t impressed with Avowed. It reminded me of something that I couldn’t put my finger on until today: Kingdom of Amalur.

Yeah the initial Avowed teaser seemingly had a similar aesthetic to Skyrim or something, but the latest trailer showed a much more reductive feel to the art style. Less gritty, more colourful and simplistic, like you'd find in WoW to make it easier to keep track of manic gameplay.

I haven’t checked out the latest video yet, but I did notice a less gritty look than Elder Scrolls during the initial showcase. TBH, i’d prefer that over a straight ES clone. But not Amalur. Never go Full Amalur.

I've played both, a lot. They are the same combination of wonder and jank their single-player counterparts are, just more so. 20 people in brightly coloured power armour blazing away with every weapon under the sun at an irradiated giant bat dragon AT 60FPS is a sight unavailable elsewhere.
The multiplayer aspect of both is actually very well handled I think, one of the reasons I'll struggle with Starfield is losing all that. It's near impossible to gank or otherwise spoil someone elses game, so it builds a really decent community of traders and helpers. Always the odd bell of course, but the exception.
