When I brought up how stupid this was to a friend, his response was "if you buy chicken from the supermarket and cook it in the wrong way, you could die". Personally I think the levels of risk-taking are slightly different there.
The smart money was always on catastrophic implosion.
Logitech breathes a sigh of relief, but not before their stock absolutely tanked yesterday. It took great effort to avoid all the possible pun combinations on that one.

I dunno.
I've done stuff like bungee jumping, skydiving, rafting etc... and you usually have to sign those kinds of things.
I'm not sure if you ever fully understand the risks, but you accept that there is some level of risk if you want to do any of these kinds of things.
I'd imagine the risk of climbing Mt Everest is probably higher, but lots of people seem willing to do that every year. (average over 6 deaths per year, this year is over 10 already)
The company's approach seems rather dodgy, but at least one passenger was a respected expert who'd diving down to the titanic 30+ times, so I guess it wasn't completely obvious that it was flawed. And of course it's always easier to say in hindsight.
I feel sorry for the 19 year old kid who went with his dad.
At least implosion would have been pretty much instantaneous.
I have bungee jumped before. Yes you have to sign a form, but come on, nobody would have a bungee jumping business if there were any reasonable chance of something going wrong. Even if they weren't legally accountable for a bungee jumping death, their business would be ruined. And rightly so!
There's a huge difference between that and taking people to 4km below sea level in a tin can. Maybe that will change with more regulation and safety restrictions, but right now, what they did looks like the height of idiocy.
