No PC port makes me sad.

It's almost amazing how little Rockstar seems to care these days.
In the past decade, we've had: three versions of Grand Theft Auto V (a brilliant game, but enough already); GTA Online (a repellent cash-grab); Red Dead Redemption 2 (a great game); Red Dead Online (left to die 'cause they couldn't work out how to monetise it effectively); a remaster of L.A. Noire (okay, I guess); Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy (a total dumpster fire); and now a half-assed port of Red Dead Redemption (releasing on PS4, nearly three years into the PS5's lifecycle, with "PS5 compatibility" touted as some kind of feature).
That's pretty pathetic.

Max Payne 3 as well, which was a beautifully optimised PC port. And just a great game.
Oh shit, that is no longer "the last decade".
Thanks for inadvertently reminding me of the march of time.

They're also working on GTA6 though. I'd love a proper RDR remake in the engine from 2, but I'm actually alright with a PS4 port. I'd rather they focus on GTA6 than remake the older stuff.
I'd really like any kind of port of Max Payne 3 to run on a PS5 though!

I want to see what GTA6 turns out like. Been rumours of a focus on co-op or online stuff which kills it dead for me.

Same - I was as excited at the prospect of GTA6 as the next person, but the rumours Doc mentioned (plus Rockstar's less-than-stellar track record of late) have left me cold.

I don't disagree with that but, price aside, as you can buy it at whatever price you choose to, I'm still alright with a PS4 port. I'd prefer a PS5 remake, but on Playstation specifically I think it's just important to get it playing in the current ecosystem.

It'd be interesting to see how it's ported to switch considering how difficult RDR is to emulate. It's got to be the 360 version right?

I am actually going to pay full price for this on Switch if it’s physical. Its their best game by a country bloody mile, in my worthless opinion. Way better than the sequel and out of reach of the GTA series.

Looks like a straight port of the 360 version
Reminds me of Sega killing the Shenmue remakes just to push out a quick port.

I'd always heard the excuse that the underlying Red Dead Redemption code was a complete mess which made it a problem to port.
It turns out there might have been some truth to that, it's not quite Grand theft Auto: The Trilogy, but footage of some noticeable problems is turning up online. It's probably a miracle that the PS3 version worked as well as it did. That explains why there's no Xbox version, you can get the 360 version for a few Pounds and it probably runs better via backwards compatibility and certainly looks better than a port that's not rendering stuff correctly.

Not even being handled by a R* studio so absolutely no impact on GTA6. Least I suppose if they don't mess about with it they can't ruin it too much. But £50 (I expect a straight swap of the $ to £) for basic conversion. Not great.

They can afford to put at least a little bit of effort into it.

So the Xbox 360 version from 13 years ago is still the optimal way to play it? Classic take2!

I think DF did a video on this, seem to remember the current xbox consoles run it at higher res, but still at 30fps. Emulation lets you bump that to 60fps, so that seems like the way to play it right now.

So £50 for a no frills port of a thirteen year old game?
Seems entirely like R*.

Yes the Xbox One X version emulating the X360 version achieves 4K.
The Xbox One version also achieved proper VSync, so no screen tearing.
I assume all this translates perfectly to the Series X.

Yeah it's great on SX.
Shame GTA4 didn't get the treatment.

As far as I can see, it's still 30fps on Series X, given there's no specific Series X version. Can you confirm?
I could've sworn I watched a video analysis of RDR running at 60fps recently... Maybe it was a non-Digital Foundry video of someone emulating it on PC.

A shame about the lack of multiplayer, but at least we get a physics version. Not until October, but I’m happy to wait until then. It’s not like there isn’t a ton to play still.

I'm actually happy with a basic up-ressed, 60fps port of the original game. I much prefer that to a GTA Trilogy abomination. It goes without saying, but the problem is the price

Is the PS4 version getting a physical release? At least it will be cheap one day, then

It’s locked 30fps, but it is very much locked. I played about 10 hours of it earlier this year (Series X) and it was very smooth.

There maybe some improvements from a Tweet from one of the people who worked on it but I doubt they'll be too extensive, which is a shame.
Watching the 60 FPS footage of RDR2 on a hacked PS5 doesn't help this look like being anything but a pretty minimal effort from Rockstar either, who still haven't patched that game for current gen consoles.
