Ritchie's films have been awful for a long time.
His best film is still Lock Stock for my money and it's been a long, slow slide since then.
Edit - In all fairness UNCLE and the first Sherlock were decent.

Why is that always the film that people point to when they want to argue that Henry Cavill is a good actor?

Aye. I think the most recent one will be the last of his films that I bother with.
He somehow managed to make Aubrey Plaza unappealing.

Are you really going to stand there and argue that King Arthur wasn't the greatest film ever made with a star turn by David Beckham's squeaky voice?

Thanks - I'd forgotten about the slow motion sword pull.

I just offered Jennifer fucking Hudson and you’re - Ooooh wait. Jennifer Hudson x The Streets Three Times Only I can hear it now. I’ll get on the phone. I'm sure we can just resurrect Cilla Black's corpse and make it sing the new theme song. Make it really era appropriate. “Why have you disturbed my sleep; awakened me from my ancient slumber? You will die! Like the others before you, one by one, I will take you.” “So is that a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the theme song Cilla?”

Its just, y'know, we've had the Craig era, as up and down as it was. A Nolan movie feels like it would be a continuity of that and I suppose I would just like a return to him being a corny old sex case.
I'd like it to shift gears a bit. The Bourne Era is over, time for a change and I dont think Nolan is it.

I agree that we need something different, srs Bond has had its day for now. Just not convinced it should be Ritchie, who I'm generally not a fan of. I didn't mind that Statham one on Prime though. And he would properly lean into the source material I think.
None of the top tips are doing it for me really.

Richie’s The Covenant is pretty decent too.

Guy Richie’s at his best when he’s working with a big ensemble of fun characters with a plot that mazes around them.
Doesn’t really add up to a good Bond director for me.

Gareth Evans would work but they'd have to up the script on Gangs of London!

They'd tone down his ultra violence, would lose his kenetic style with cut aways when someone's getting something stabbed through their neck.
Edgar Wright would make it a bit lighter and more fun in tone than the Craig era.

I do actually think a 60s set Bond would be pretty cool though. I do actually recall enjoying the Uncle film as well, and Cavill would be such a good fit. Then again, that really would be straying too close to the other film so can't ever see something like that being a goer.

Wright would try and be too clever with it imo. I wonder what someone like Wheatley would do with it.

Yeah, Evans would be a good shout. I'm not married to Richie directing, its just that he's pretty much the poster boy for the tone I'd like to see. I dont think Nolan has a 'Romp' in him.

On the one hand, not that fussed on Nolan taking the reins (even though I generally like Nolan films, I agree that I don't see that being a massive departure from what we had with Craig). On the other hand though, the idea of it going back to the era of the Fleming books I'm definitely up for. Already said in this thread or another where Bond came up recently that that was what I hoped for. I was expecting that to be a bit of a pipe dream.
Edit - Evans could be good. Edgar Wright maybe, but would probably rather he did his own original stuff.
Not Ritchie.

Also the thought of Guy Richie dialogue in a Bond film…

Joe Cornish for director.
Only condition is he has to get Adam Buxton in as M.

I just asked chatGPT to write me a Bond scene in the style of Christopher Nolan and it just gave me a scene from Casino Royale. Pretty sure it was the same as the actual film.

Hopefully they get a more interesting actor than Craig in, he has no real charm and is quite bland. And he was looking like a dried out jacket potato by the end of it.

I was just going to suggest a Carry On Bond - we nearly got there with Moore (who I love, so not a slight).
Can't see it being any 'big name' director, personally - from what I've read EON don't like to splash the cash and they also like to keep the Bond brand fully under control - so a seasoned director who has been around the block doing 'beige' films or upcoming one who toes the line.
Agree they need to drop the Bourne template, but some catching up to do now the MI franchise filled the hole left behind.

Sam Mendes would've bucked that trend a bit, surely?

On Her Majesty's Secret Service has many great moments, but there is a stretch during the piece where he is in that clinic that is front for SPECTRE where he is jumping between bedrooms and it really does feel like Sid and Babs could pop up at any moment. As for big name directors, they were just burnt by Danny Boyle, so might well be something they want to avoid.

The last few Bonds have cost a fortune, i think they’re ok spending the money if they get the return these days.

Oh, yes - I didn't mean in the actual making - more with the literal hiring stakes. Obviously, Bond will be well paid but also has to work an awful lot for it.

Ben Wheatley to direct. Reece Shearsmith as Q, Alice Lowe as M, Michael Smiley as the villain.
The Stath can be Bond.
