Eh... this guy won't be far off the same age as Craig was for Casino Royale by the time it's released. I was hoping they'd mix it up a bit. Shit, that's wild. I don't know if it's because Craig was already pretty famous when he was cast, or because of how quickly they seemed to switch to "Old Man Bond" (literally his third film!), but I always pegged him as being in his early forties right from the off. Meanwhile I still think of Johnson as being the teenager from Kick-Ass, despite how hench he was in Tenet. But yeah: Johnson is currently 33, Craig was 38 when Casino Royale came out. Not that much difference. He'll basically get just one film where he's a bit younger than Craig's Bond ever was. Obviously they can (and hopefully will) make his Bond a different beast to Craig's, but I feel like there's so much that could be done with a 20-something Bond, even if it's pre-MI6 stuff.

Connery was 31 during the filming of Dr No.
Lazenby was 29.
It doesn't help that in my head Aaron Taylor-Johnson is still 18 or 19 and fresh from filming Kick Ass, but really he's in the right age range.

Craig turning from a fit 40 year old with a questionable Bond aesthetic into a fit 60 year old with a Sid James plastic surgery job in the space of 10 years didn't help the franchise much...

Also Dan Stevens is the only correct choice for Bond. So hot right now...

We just need to hope we don't get Barry.

As a 53 year old, give me fifty, three year olds again. Erm, hang on that's not right... You could have three seventeen year olds, which would be a bit righter, if not fully rightest.

I’m curious what kind of Bond they’ll do since Casino Royale was very much a response to the Bourne Identity more grounded style of action after the 90s stuff got so overblown. But the big action trend of the last 10 years has been Marvel and Fast & Furious films being live action cartoons.
I guess Missions Impossible have always done their own thing and Bond stayed broadly with that grounded style, but is it time for a new shake up and brand of action to take over? What would that even be?

I've said it before but Jodie Comer would have slayed as Bond. She'll probably end up as evil Bond girl.

I feel like maybe they should take him back to the more suave, quipping Bond as a change from the gritty craig Bond.
But as long as they have a coherent vision, good stunts, gadgets and a decent story, I don't really mind all that much.

It seems highly suspicious that this news has surfaced around the same time that Kate has disappeared

Talking of Goldeneye. It's on ITVX so me and the family sat down to watch it Saturday just gone. All of Famke Janssens fight scenes have been cut. You know, where she kind of moans alot. Basically the bits I was looking forward to. Gutted.

Does the Bond franchise have anywhere left to go? Anything left to say?
It's going to be difficult to come up with a completely original direction for the franchise, so failing that, I'd like to see a return to a far less serious Bond.
I'm so tired of bleak, hyper realistic, violent films, stuffed full of "cool" po-faced characters that take themselves too seriously.
I want ridiculous gadgets and memorable action sequences. I can barely remember a single thing that happens in the Daniel Craig films, but I remember Brosnan smashing a tank through walls in St. Petersburg whilst adjusting his tie.
My guess is we'll get something impressive but ultimately forgettable, like the recent Mission Impossible films.

Remake Goldfinger, with where Bond slaps her arse "man talk" and then it goes into a court room drama for sexual harassment.

Does the Bond franchise have anywhere left to go? Anything left to say? My wish would be for them to go back to not needing to. I don't think we need the BCU anymore, just go back to stand alone capers.

Does Bond HAVE to have anything to say? What's wrong with a spy romp?

I have a feeling this has been discussed before, or it may just be me making up a discussion in my head... I'd like for them to Man from UNCLE it and actually set it back in the 60s. Just make it a proper old school Bond (albeit without the sexism/racism) and then just camp it up in terms of ludicrous gadgets, overblown action sequencies, crazy and iconic villains and henchmen/women.

I think that's got to be the next logical step, and retro is so in now it'd play pretty well imo.
