Does the Bond franchise have anywhere left to go? Anything left to say? My wish would be for them to go back to not needing to. I don't think we need the BCU anymore, just go back to stand alone capers. Absolutely. I'd take a well-crafted stand-alone film over some drawn-out story spread across multiple films. I was just suggesting if they did want to do something original with the franchise, then god knows which direction they'd go in, so they're more or less forced to retread familiar ground, which is probably a good thing.

I have a feeling this has been discussed before, or it may just be me making up a discussion in my head... I'd like for them to Man from UNCLE it and actually set it back in the 60s. Just make it a proper old school Bond (albeit without the sexism/racism) and then just camp it up in terms of ludicrous gadgets, overblown action sequencies, crazy and iconic villains and henchmen/women. Problem is that Austin Powers somewhat ruined that concept. It works in the OSS 117 films but Austin Powers has probably killed it for big English cinema. I would be totally into an out of time Cold War era story where they can have a bit more fun.

See I don't think Austin Powers has killed that as a concept. Austin Powers was bloody ages ago and most younger cinema goers have never even heard of it, let alone seen it. Sadly my days of having a friendly ear in Hollywood are over though, and I don't think anyone will listen to me to get it off the ground now.

I'd quite like another Tomorrow Never Dies-style movie, have a Musk-like figure threatening to take over several pacific islands, have Michelle Yeoh make a return, maybe try to reclaim stuff like the volcano lair and space stuff that Austin Powers riffed on so well. Nolan to direct, Tom Hiddleston to be Bond.

Yeah I don't think the existence of Austin Powers would really have that much of an effect on the viability of a 60s set Bond now.

Could ways go for a tonally disjointed version that flips between Jason Bourne / John Wick violence and ultra camp Moore-Bond style gadgets.

There's a reason nobody picked up any of my ideas when I tried to work in the creative industry.

I also feel they should have a lighter, frothier tone. Maybe more GoldenEye Brosnan than Peak Moore, though. They could build it up through the films until the third one has jetpacks and volcano bases again.

Basically, they should make a movie of Perfect Dark.

Watch the next villain be a red herring because the real villain is just an AI gone rogue.

They should reimagine it with Bond as a crack auditor looking into financial mismanagement at Solihull Borough Council.

We missed the Dan Stevens window but we still have The Guest (available on ITVX, kids) This reminds me, I only watched the first half of that. I should go back and finish it.
Off to iTVX Kids!
