The Three Houses Renown Glitch (or: How To Crash A Continent's Economy With Flower Seeds) For Aunt Alison and anyone else interested The short story: an overflow glitch that results in you having functionally infinite Renown and money, to then turn into whatever you want. The long story (spoilered to avoid cluttering, as usual): Necessary things: the Cindered Shadows DLC with enough progress to unlock access to the Abyss in the main game, for the Pagan Altar and Renown offerings Access to the merchants that sell seeds, meat, gifts etc (main game sidequest) If you're on NG, be past a certain big story event the five-year timeskip to have access to the full shop/Pagan Altar inventories, on NG+ I think you can do it from the start Enough combined Renown/money/items to have around 70k Renown (to turn money into Renown, buy items you can offer at the Pagan Altar. 1* and 2* seeds work best). You only need more than 65535, technically, but around 70k lessens the round trips at the start a bit. The actual exploit: Once you have the prerequisites, go to the Pagan Altar and buy enough of one item for the purchase to cost more than 65535 Renown. Any item with infinite supply and a cost of 700+ can work. The game will overflow and only ask you to pay [Actual price minus 65535] Renown. Buy a couple hundred stacks of, say, Silver Bow+ (one of the most efficient, 82 for 64 Renown. Lance+ and Sword+ also work at the same price, various others end up costing a little more), sell them at the monastery marketplace for lotsa money. Use that money to buy seeds from the relevant merchant (only 1/2* to be the most efficient, 3* as well if you want to reduce the round trips), then head back down to the Pagan Altar and turn the seeds in for Renown. This part is the boring bit, a lot of round trips involved. Repeat the above steps until you have all the money and Renown you'll ever possibly need, then turn it into stacks of powerful weapons, statue upgrades, clearing out the NG+ journal, the works. That'll teach IntSys to use unsigned 16-bit integers

I am also hoarder.
Last night I finished legend of grimroc
I made maybe 3 potions in the game. Instead of using them I backtracked to healing crystal
And never used any bomb until last boss. I had sooo many of those. The fire bomb stockpile proved useful at the end though as I could spam them with each character killing the boss quickly.
Pillars of eternity... ended up with so many scrolls and potions
Cyberpunk... hundreds of healing items. And if not because of bug where the game switches quick use to better item making me use my stronger item by accident i would have never use the better ones.

The game may not actually make you pay full price, but you still need to have enough to initiate the glitchy purchase. That's part of why I suggested having a couple thousand above that when starting to use the exploit.

Always reloading, and usually at the wrong time. Hoarding the best weapons/items to use when I really need them and then never actually using them. So many Resident Evil games completed with Magnums unfired. One that I’m encountering at the moment in my FF series playthrough is making sure I keep my inventory massively overstocked with round numbers of potions and status items. Again I’ll not use most of them but am I heck leaving a town with 23 in my inventory. I also almost always play with my controller plugged in. Partly because thats how I was raised and partly because with my old glasses prescription that was the ideal distance for reading on screen text.

Item hoarding in RPGs is also one of mine. Especially those items that permanently increase a stat. Who should I use it on? Should I save it until late on in the game, when levelling up becomes more difficult? Is this definitely the right character to give it to? I’ll just keep it safe for now.

The weapons upgrade materials in Darks Souls really did that for me too. Ended up slogging about with totally under-levelled kit and the means to solve the issue for a long time “just in case”.

Whichever way I'm facing when the game starts up, I'll walk the other way.

Habitual savescumming.
That's scumming. Not cumming.
I picked up a twig. Does that count as progress? Maybe twigs get really hard to find later on. I better save, just to be safe.

More me being a passenger gamer, but I wasn't great at seeing my ex-girlfiend (very much an ex-girlfriend) fail repeatedly.
"You've got to kite him over there first then use the scenery to... ok. What you did there was run directly at the unkillable baddy. Now if you lead him over to the area only you can squeeze through you'll... ok. You just ran at him again. So what you've got to do is... ok you ran at him. If you bank left and make him follow you into the... OK! How about I get you past this part and any other part requiring actual gameplay?"

I’m also guilty of playing horror games like an absolute coward. Cowering under whatever I can for an eternity before feebly attempting to progress. Then retreating if I hear the faintest crackle of footsteps and finally just quitting outright. Great way to spend £40.

Hoarding the best weapons/items to use when I really need them and then never actually using them. Oh god, definitely this too! Don't forget trying to get to the grenades first and failing every time. /Shakes fist at BiggerBFG

Watching all of the end credits, even if they're 15 minutes long and skippable. And even if I could leave them running and go off to do something else in the meantime.
All because one game about 15 years ago gave me a bronze trophy for sitting through them, and another had some secret clue right at the end or something.

If I get some spare time where I could comfortably get a few hours of gaming in, I'm suddenly not in the mood
If I have to be up in the morning it's "just one more mission" until 3am like an idiot

I’m unable to use WASD for fps games. I started pc gaming in that small interval that used arrow keys and mouse control, and now I’m stuck with it. Biggest annoyance besides having to remap default controls is there aren’t enough buttons around the arrow keys for some modern games.

I used to be the same, was arrows during doom etc and then transitioned to games like quake that introduced mouselook but stuck with arrows for everything and just couldn't adapt. I then moved over to console for a gen or 2 so on my return to pc about 5 years or so ago I went through a period of adjustment where I just threw myself into wasd. The biggest benefit of the arrows is also its biggest drawback when trying to re-learn. The lack of buttons around it is a massive plus for the muscle memory of button placement so you always know where you're fingers are relative to the keys but it's a fucker when you need to also map crouch, run, reload, interact, leaning? Its taken me a good while to happily adjust to crouch on c instead of ctrl. Fuck knows why it was so hard but now it feels alien if I go back

When Quake first came out I couldn't get on with these newfangled WASD keymappings that CVG or somewhere like that recommended using. I decided to try something that felt more natural and went with CVBN instead (a finger resting on each key)
It took a few years for me to see sense and move away from that nonsense.

In my defence, for some reason my country adopted the azerty layout, and in early games you couldn’t even remap wasd to zqsd. I’ve tried a couple times now, what throws me off is that w isn’t straight above the s. I’ve considered getting one of those cyberclaw things.

Having all the other keys around WASD means you can bind them to weapons and everything else without having to move your hand. I can still remember all my Quake 3 binds

Do you ever take your phone out of your pocket, intending to check the time, then get distracted by a text/email/whatever and put your phone away without ever looking at the time, so you have to get it out again moments later and look like a berk in the process? I do that kind of thing in games constantly - open my inventory, wanting to look for an item or check the stats of the new weapon I just picked up, get distracted, and close the menu again without having completed my original goal.

Pausing to look at the achievements / trophy list in my profile every time a new one pops. Even thougn i could rarely give a shit about 100%ing a game, or have the time and attention span.

Ha, yeah. Spending 10 minutes agonising over what to ditch from your inventory in Fallout because you're overencombered, only to 30 seconds later pick up a load more stuff and have to do it all again This is me! I actually binned Fallout 3 for thst very reason

I had to really force myself to get out of that habit, as it really takes over your enjoyment. I try not to even open the achievement list until I've finished a game these days. Playing only Nintendo games for a while helped me get it out of my system.

I turned off trophy notifications hoping that would help. It kind of did for a while but a year or so ago I turned them back on and can't even remember why.

I just like reading the % of players that have got the achievement. Especially in games with multiple story forks, it's kinda cool to see how common/uncommon your choice was.
