Is that actually the number sold or just that have played the game? Surely Gamepass has skewed the figures a bit.
I'll be checking it out anyway, looks like it could either be fantastic or utterly shit and I'm curious to find out which.

It cribs so transparently from Pokémon (especially now with Legends Arceus) that I'm surprised there hasn't been legal drama tbh... Nintendo is (in)famously protective of their stuff, what happened here? Anyway, the premise doesn't hold much interest for me, so nope. Good for them on the big launch though I guess, although I can't help but think that a decently large part of it is because of a combination of Pokémon being Nintendo-exclusive and Gamefreak fumbling the recent games...

What are you even doing if you're not Slavemaxxing PokemonNotPokemon on a Friday night. Got the Penguin on watering duty, the blob in a hat plants the seeds and the monkeys harvest the crop. Cat in the mines and some kind of massive deer gives himself brain damage and I get wood.
I literally had to beat them all into submission with a wooden stick and capture them. Gets easier once you "automate" the wood and stone and I've just unlocked machine guns for the monkeys and I now have a flamethrower.
It's very enjoyable so far.

Wood definitely floats my boat.
No issues playing at all, its all single player. It's such a weird mashup of games I wouldn't be disappointed if I had paid for it.

Y’know someone should bring back in Poke-clone genre?
Jade Cocoon
Mash those beasties to monstrous hybrids and get them battling.
Its surprising that there haven’t been more Pokemon style games for the non-Nintendo systems really considering its been a money printing machine for the last 25 years and has remained exclusive the whole time.

Doesn't help that the other big monster collector series, Dragon Quest Monsters, has also been locked to Nintendo systems (and half of it has been JP-only, grumble grumble...)

They've got the stick inversions the wrong way round on xbox, so you have to turn on invert the x-axis in order to invert the y-axis. Just in case any fellow legacy sinistrists are confused Nice game though.

Adding to this… if you’re doing a male character and wondering how to get your beard to match your hair, change “eyebrow colour” in the Face menu

It's a nice game but it's very unstable, it crashed to the home screen for me after only 14 straight hours, and took nearly a minute to get back in. Needs work.

Well this is all very interesting... www.videogameschronicle.com/news/palworld-embroiled-in-ai-and-pokemon-plagiarism-controversy/Hardly the only comparisons drawn of course, and stuff like the developers showing zero concept art (mentioned in a tweet reply IIRC, it's pretty far down), or things mentioned in the article like the company's existing history with AI or many if not all of the creatures supposedly being drawn by only one person that was "rejected by 100 companies" (on its own a feel-good story, but combined with everything else...) are at least troubling... (tweet is a whole thread btw, it's not showing here) Here's my question: if it's all so blatant (and it does look pretty blatant, and they should be blasted to oblivion if true, AI and plagiarism are a slippery slope), why hasn't there already been legal drama (like I said above)? And will there be, now that it's such a roaring success? Whoever's suing, if any, have only made it harder on themselves letting it become established, just look at some of the replies on those tweets and article...

Nintendo’s lawyers are probably having a long weekend, I’d imagine they’d have to go through all the characters and find the similarities? Figured it would have been a Chinese dev, but they are based in Tokyo. I wonder what Steam will do in terms of refunds, you get 2 hours of play time on Steam right?

Worst that will happen is that they will change the likeness on anything that draws a lawsuit.

Worst that will happen is that they will change the likeness on anything that draws a lawsuit. So about 60% of the character models (I haven't looked at all that much, maybe I'm being generous for all I know) and a good bit of the world too, with the physics, collision etc work that would imply, then make sure the changes don't also draw lawsuits... Not as simple as it may seem, especially the second part if they actually did mostly AI prompt the current models...

(For the record, I'm not particularly mad they're cribbing from any specific franchise, more that, especially now with AI coming on the scene, a game like this -again, assuming even a part of the AI and plagiarism stuff is true- making millions on millions opens a door I'd really rather keep shut... AI, for many things but artistic work in this specific case, needs to be carefully regulated and this ain't the way IMO.)

My daughter is a massive Pokémon fan and her reaction to the trailer was ‘this is basically the Reddit wishlist every time they announce a new game’.
Regardless of ethics, you can’t help but feel nintendo have brought this on themselves by releasing the same game for 30 years.

I'm not even into pokemon, and even I was surprised by the flying jet-looking one in the trailer being so similar to a pokemon I remembered. Interesting that it's a Japanese company. Wonder how that'll go down. Isn't Mechwarrior still banned from using that *one* mech design that looked a bit like a mech design from Japan?
PS/ Thing is though, even if the pokemon are very similar, they aren't characters from the anime, and as such I wonder how interested youngsters will be. (Though I guess maybe the shooting means it isn't aimed at total youngsters. There have been a bunch of pokemon-inspired games recently that got decent reviews, but the kid had no interest in them because they didn't have Pikachu, Rowlet, etc.. in them.
TemTem, etc..

It's actually pretty entertaining on PC so far. Although performance on Xbox feels awful in comparison. It obviously cribs from several games (aside from the obvious Pokémon) without doing anything new, but it's clicking with my lizard brain.
The Xbox graphics setting screen recommending that I play in windowed mode at a lower resolution made me chuckle.

Regardless of ethics, you can’t help but feel nintendo have brought this on themselves by releasing the same game for 30 years. And that's why I'm not faulting the players (unless they're being ridiculous in defending it, which some are. Guess some things are only bad when they're affecting you specifically...). They see a product they want and like, they don't really care what may or may not have gone on behind the scenes, fine. It's not (and shouldn't be used as) an excuse for a developer though. You can capitalize on a gap in the (monster collector in this case) market without shady design practices (assuming such happened and so on, you can basically append that to my posts on the matter until things are proven one way or the other ) At the absolute least, even if no AI, conscious plagiarism and so on happened at all, by making their designs so similar in so many places, they're opening themselves up to controversy and allegations that could have been avoided with less effort than it will take to fix things now if shit hits the fan. "No such publicity as bad publicity" only takes you so far... Unless you're a politician I guess

Both of my kids were very young when Pokémon first reached the UK. Our eldest was watching the cartoon and the wife and I picked up Red and Blue for our Gameboy Colours out of curiosity, got hooked, and have played pretty much every mainline title since. The kids both started playing once they were old enough, and we'd help them get their Gym Badges and trade them all the good stuff that they wouldn't have the patience to make the effort to get. I did fall out of love with the series somewhere around X/Y & Sun/Moon - just started to feel tired of the same old gameplay loop - but still played them through as each release had become a family event by then. I have to say, despite its faults, I've absolutely loved Scarlet/Violet and consider it the best game in the series, hands-down. My kids are in their twenties now (25 & 28) and are still playing. We do raids together online and they ask me to come up with strats for 7 star raids (ie look up good builds on Google lol). Pokémon has been a constant that still brings the whole family together after all these years and I absolutely adore it for that. I hope to be coaching my grandkids some day, hehe. Anyway, this has absolutely nothing to do with Palworld and I haven't played it yet, I just wanted to tell my wholesome Pokémon story
