So I just started this today, I did have a bit of a go on it a few years back but didn't gel with it back then but thought I'd give it another whirl. OK so far, first day so controls/interface all feels a bit clunky as is often the case with a new game, I daresay that will improve on the next few sessions. £7.86 from Music Magpie via ebay, can't argue with that.

It's a Rockstar game, so don't expect the clunkiness to go away (although you'll probably get used to it).
Everything else about RDR2 - the world, the characters, the acting, the music, etc. - makes it worth pushing through, IMO.

Have started it and gotten halfway through it twice, only for my attention to wander for long enough that a restart would have to be required again if I were to pick it up a third time. What I've played, I've enjoyed, but the sheer amount of shit you would need to collect to do a completionist run would put me off.
(Also, missed a trick not calling this "Red Thread Redemption.")

I played it from the start fairly recently after getting a fair way into it at launch. Its extremely clunky and slow going, but it's a fucking excellent game if you're in the mood for it.

It’s a brilliant game. Not essential, but it’s one of those games that benefits from playing along with the official guide book, because there is so much hidden in the game’s nooks and crannies that you can easily be oblivious to.

Can never get far into RDR2 because it just has so much narrative and cut scenes and endless talking on horseback. Really enjoy hunting and shit in RDO though. The world they put together is astonishing.

I was very vocal about everything I disliked about this game, but if you try and play into the slow paced nature of it all, it does become more enjoyable. Even the controls feel better if you’re not trying to zip around the map.
But yeah, it is bloody slow. And at times I had zero patience for it.

I never finished it either and keep meaning to go back. The load times must surely be better on thr PS5! Other than that that, the slow nature was what I liked. I spent hours crafting, killing animals and cooking, camping etc. Loved that part.

You chaps really should give this game another go, it is absolutely stunning (see also RDR) as is the world. I know it is "clunky" because Rockstar don't seem to do third person movement or gunplay very well (Should sub that out to Ubi or CD maybe ?) luckily everything else they do is top tier, dare I say AAAA

I really enjoyed RDR2. Weirdly I enjoyed the slow pace, and just being in the world.
I liked how much space there is. Compared to many open world games where there's something of "interest" or a pack of enemies or some shiny loot every 100 meters, there was just something amazing about having this detailed, gorgeous environment that wasn't clogged up with game nonsense.
I also quite liked the methodical pacing of the gameplay. I generally can't be doing with anything too twitchy these days so it suited me well. I personally didn't find it clunky.
I completed the game which is more than can be said for most games I've played in the last decade.

Still one of my favourite games ever. Sense of exploration, the landscape, the visuals, the story, how much there is to do that has no connection to the story. Of course when I look at the insane detail in it I am always reminded of the human cost it took to get this.

I played this earlier this year. My second attempt at it and I really fell for it. I think you kind of got to be in the mood for it, but if you buy into the what it is trying to do with how methodical everything is and the slow nature of its gameplay I think you’ll really fall for it.
I really enjoyed the camp aspect of the gameplay- going out for the day to do whatever and coming back with food or saying hi to the various folk around camp as you come back - felt really immersed within the game world and characters. Overall mission design isn’t that novel and even pretty bland but everything else is Stella. Still one of the best looking games around, even with it being 5/6 years old.

It’s an astonishing game. Nothing else quite like it. It can be intense. It can be chill. It can be exciting. It can be novel. From one session to the next.
It’s borderline criminal that they haven’t given it a next gen polish if only for the loading times. Bump up the res, bump up the frame rate, sort out the loading times. Perfect.

Yeah it's an absolute no brainer but as I read they were working on it but then dropped it after the shitshow that was the remastered trilogy and put everyone on GTA 6.

Wish I could do the Men In Black mind wipe so I could play it for the first time again.
Still holding out a replay in the slim hopes it will get a ps5 upgrade.

Really need to start this. Bought it on release but then...dunno just never played it for some reason.
I think at the time I couldn't switch off the Ubisoft clear-the-map mentality.
Nowadays my time is so limited, I really can't be bothered with that anymore.

I don't think the map is particularly cluttered - certainly not to the extent of a Ubisoft game.

I'm in the "waiting for next gen update/60fps before I revisit this" camp.

I went through a phase of getting YouTube recommendations for videos about RDR2. Having played it extensively, finishing the story and probably spending more time doing anything but the story, the YouTube videos then made it clear there was still a tonne of content I'd missed and that everything had all been meticulously thought out, in terms of the lore and detail and interconnectivity. I think it's the most impressive game I've ever played. The scale, the visuals, the acting, the world that feels genuinely alive. It's amazing.

I played this over the first month of the original lockdown. With nothing else to do it was the perfect game to get lost in. Put in over 7 days of time in it during that month to get 100% completion. Even on my old creaking original Xbone it was incredible.

I am all for respecting alternate opinions and I understand games sometimes just don't hit for people.
RDR2 though is simply amazing and people who don't like it are wrong.

I've put hundreds of hours into Red Dead online along with the main game just for the vibes. All open world pottering around, missions, Bounty hunting or poker, very rarely touched the PVP shootout modes.
Damn shame they dumped support for it but I don't see how it made money so it made sense.
The world is just a work of art, its exceptional.

I dumped the original after about 10 hours because it just didn't click for me at all. Went back to it a few years later where it became one of my favourite games of all time.
Thus far the same has happened with 2. I put about 10 hours into it at launch and I haven't been back to it since. It's on the dreaded "list" but I don't ever seem to find the time.

The only reason I stopped playing RDO (which I personally found to be the most immersive SP experience I've ever played - all the good parts of what I enjoyed about RDR2 without the narrative) was because hacking was rampant. Every time I'd log in I was getting blown up every time I spawned, for WEEKS. Apparently even that is better now as they've all moved onto other games.

On PC there's a really simple mod that just puts you on your own in a lobby permanently which means you avoid all that and get to experience all the random events that dont appear when you have more than about 10 people in your lobby. it does mean you cant join PVP shootouts etc but they are not why I played so no loss.

Glad I've seen some of the bug warnings on this page about how they can keep events from progressing, as I was thinking of restarting the game in the near future and maybe actually finishing it.
I knew about Gertrude Braithwaite, but I had no idea about the Saint Denis Vampire.

You can also miss the hunting missions in the train stations. Which means you also won’t get the wooden squirrel to put on your mantelpiece This is an actual bug, you need to start them before a certain point in the game or they are totally unavailable - eerily similar to the bug in GTA V that prevents you doing the UFO missions with Franklin
