Yeah it was a bit of a mad race that. It's very uncommon compared to 15-20 years ago.
This track especially isn't one to be dithering with red flags on.

I don't know if anyone watched the GP3 earlier but Collett understeered up Radillon in the wet and twice left the track, first on the left, then on the right and he just kept his foot planted and even gained places fully off the track.
He only got a 5sec time penalty for not giving the places back, yet it was some of the most stupid and dangerous driving I've seen in quite a while. He'd already lost control once and the risk of losing it again as he bounced over the kerb and then took some wet grass was extreme. Not sensible on a blind crest and he should be getting the bollocking of a lifetime in my opinion.

Russell playing on fucking 30 AI. What just happened.

Ahhh. That's so frustrating. Lando was 1.1 faster than Danny in Q2 and Danny was 1.09 off pole in Q3. I genuinely think Lando would have had that one.
Russell was absolutely mega though, what talent. That car has no right to be P2.

Imagine pretending to decide between him and Bottas all year.

If Russell accidentally 'Bottas's' his way into the side of Max at La Source tomorrow I will cough up a lung laughing.

That's the wrong energy. I'm hoping for him to go first into T1 and then a 43 lap safety car period.

Legit only just noticed Bottas' lap time. Did he make a mistake or was that really all he had? Imagine being a Finish Arsenal fan today.

Thinking about it, that was a Xhaka esque challenge on the Red Bull a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Channel 4s have apparently been on air for over an hour waiting for the W Series to start, with no live rights to show the F1. Not looking like it'll start any time soon either.

Was pretty excellent driving but from the top 3 especially. My heart was in my mouth pretty much all of Q3, was totally expecting Hamilton's Merc to let go the speed he was carrying through certain corners. It's insane.

Makes the GP stuff at austria look even more insane. Doing it on two wheels with your face 6 inches from the tarmac.
Fair fucking play

Yeah wets are just worthless these days. It was always going to happen to the first person through that section. Theoretically whoever does their lap first in worsening conditions will be fastest so the onus falls on race control to stop them all from rushing out. There's just been an awful W Series crash in the same place in tricky conditions as a precedent. It's totally unacceptable that's just had to happen to someone. The W series accident was horrendous. It was almost a copy of Herbert’s incident but on the other side. Lucky no one was killed. I know they’re making changes to radillion next year but starting to think Spa’s days may be numbered. Herbert, W series and the Jack Aitken WEC crash within a couple of years of each other. Any incident there just sends you into the path of other cars. Need to make some drastic changes and push back the stadium and run of areas on both sides.

Apparently they are going to make these sorts of changes next year. Let's just hope we get through the race today ok.
I do think they can do more even without changing the track though. I'd have a specially trained martial at the top of the hill who is empowered to immediately impose double yellows or a red without consulting the race director. I'd also impose a specific directive with harsher penalties just for that section. Something like a 10s stop go and 6 license points for anyone who doesn't completely lift off the throttle and apply some braking before they pass the next green flag.
It's drivers joining the accident at full speed that makes it so dangerous and blending off the throttle a bit like normal isn't sufficient.

Norris starts p14 with a 5 place grid drop for a gearbox change.
Apparently he might not have lost that engine which is good, although they've put an old one in for today as a precaution.

Hopefully conditions are similar to yesterday. I think he'd have had pole and I wouldn't bet against him grabbing a podium if the track is as tricky as it was yesterday.
Really hope it isn't safety cars/red flags galore once it's safe enough to get going.

Great Moto3 race at Silverstone, Fenati smoked the entire field. MotoGP up next, praying VR46 manages to pull off an unlikely podium

What an awful mistake to make when you've got Bottas with the grid penalty. Useless.

I was leading the booing from the grandstand. I'd forgotten he was the brake lever guy, just read his wiki. There has to be a mechanism for young sports people to redeem themselves for red mist mmistakes as they are under lots of pressure. However it does sounds like he had form even before that incident and was already on borrowed time. I'd put Ferrucci in that irredeemable bell end category as well.

I believe in redemption. Fully deserved the win today If that was his only mistake then fair enough. But vr46 dropped him for anonymous reasons, he tried to kill someone on track, he had lots of form previous. Eventually you have to go the guy is a cunt and should not be racing.

This is such a shame. In Nascar, they have a fleet of trucks with air knives to dry the racing line faster. Doesn't help much when it's raining heavily but it does mitigate moderate rain and also reduces the time between the rain ceasing and the race starting.
