Not sure if this belongs in the Game Pass thread or not... if I start a game of Flight Sim Standard Edition on Game Pass, then further down the line I decide to buy the Deluxe Edition outright, can I continue my save where I left off in the Standard Edition, or does the Xbox recognise it as a different game?

Excellent, that's what I was hoping, but you never know. Thanks very much.

Y’know, with Game Pass you will get a discount on the two upgrade bundles.
(That said, I’m confused as to whether they also include the full game, should you cancel the service…)

How do I enable Dolby Vision in games on the Series X?
In the Series X settings I've got the Dolby Vision option checked, I've set the screen refresh to 60hz, but when I start Flight Simulator my LG CX starts the game in "HDR" every time.

It doesn't work like that. I don't think there are any Dolby Vision games out. It's not something you'll ever have to select, your CX should do the work. Try the Netflix app, some films will stream in DV. Games will be HDR, although DV support is coming soon

No, you're both absolutely right - no games natively support Dolby Vision (apart from maybe Gears 5). However, you should still be able to enable the Dolby Vision in your Series X settings and games will output in Dolby Vision mode - albeit the console's "best guess" of what Dolby Vision should look like. It's demonstrated in this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Blc5zsQ_ebwThe only caveats for the LG CX appear to be that Dolby Vision isn't supported at 120Hz (so I've set my Series X to 60Hz) and Dolby Vision isn't compatible with FreeSync Premium (so I've disabled it on my CX). I've even tried disabling HDR completely in the Series X settings, but leaving Dolby Vision checked, in an attempt to force the mode, but still no luck. I agree this isn't a massive issue, and you're probably better off just using standard HDR for now anyway, but I'm just trying to determine if my Series X is faulty.

Your console isn't faulty. It doesn't support DV for games as no games have DV support. There's no workaround or way to enable it on your TV.
Edit - even if you can force it above HDR what would be the point? Surely all you want is the best possible output, in which case it will be HDR. Native HDR support > simulated DV.

You're absolutely right, and I'll likely continue to use standard HDR mode until games start to natively support Dolby Vision, in which case the CX should switch to Dolby Vision mode automatically when it detects a game that supports it.
My confusion is all the people on YouTube / Reddit / online who've managed to get their LG CX (or C1) to detect the output of their Series X as Dolby Vision.
It seems all they had to do was enable it in the options, which I agree is silly right now, given there's no native game support, but it should still work from everything I've seen online.
Edit - If anyone has a Series X and a TV that supports Dolby Vision, I sure would appreciate if you could set your Series X to 60Hz refresh rate, ensure Dolby Vision is checked, and let me know if either the "HDR" or "Dolby Vision" notification appears when you start a game. Thanks.

I have a CX and my Series X won’t even let me select Dolby Vision. And yes I’m in 60Hz before you ask. So the whole thing is a bit odd right now.
Am no right in thinking there’s a purchase you have to make to buy the Dolby Vision license for the machine? I remember seeing something like that.
I decided to just forget about it until there’s a game that supports it that I care about.

Nah, has been said before but if Dolby Vision content is being displayed the pop up notification will come up. I have Dolby Vision, it comes up on Netflix Dolby content but there are no games that use it as of now. You don't need to purchase a licence just need Dolby Vision content.

I had a play around with mine last night, couldn't get DV to work with FH4. Made sure AMD premium thing disabled, made sure 60hz, and tick next to DV in xbox settings, restarted Forza, HDR still with no options to change it. Disabled HDR10 on X settings, leaving just DV, restarted Forza : no HDR atall. Yet there are videos comparing DV and HDR with Forza on the X out there, not sure how they achieve it.

DV is really flaky even on the preview program at the moment, it even says in the notes some games will be flicking on and off for a while, so I wouldn't worry.
FH4 is deffo just HDR atm, it WAS DV a couple of weeks ago.

Precisely. I couldn't even force DV using the same method as you. Well that's reassuring I suppose, and thanks for the clarification. At least I know there's no issue with my Series X, as I only got it yesterday.
I know there was an Xbox Insider update that enabled Dolby Vision 6 months ago, so maybe a lot of the Series X DV stuff online is off the back of that update - maybe this update forced DV, regardless if the source supported it natively, but the standard Series X firmware checks the source properly for native support, hence you can't force DV on the standard Series X firmware.
Alternatively, maybe people are running bleeding edge LG CX/C1 firmware versions which operate differently to the OTA updates. I just install the standard OTA firmware updates on my CX.

I have a Dolby Vision TV and my Series X has been popping 'Dolby Vision' stuff up for at least a month on pretty much every game that uses HDR user Darkling.
Didn't know it was an 'Auto HDR' thing though were its guessing.
*edit* I am on the Omega level of the Insider program but I don't think that matters in this case.

Huh, so people are having different experiences. Out of interest, are you on a non-standard software version on your Series X ie. have you installed a system update that's part of the Insider program, with experimental features? Also what TV do you have?

After I posted this I went to check and actually Destiny 2 defaults to HDR but most other things are Dolby. I use the Omega level of the Insider dash which is basically the most stable version before its put out to everyone. TV is a Panasonic...something. It has adaptive dimming which I hate and can't turn off.

I then did more digging when I realised more and more stuff was showing as HDR. Went in to the settings and Dolby Vision was turned off for some reason. Back on now and seems to be most, but not all, HDR games showing it.

Goddammit. I am now looking at my 2018 Samsung like an unwanted houseguest that's has pissed in the corner. How dare you come into my home, only able to entertain me in HDR and 4K? Where is your VRR? Your 120hz? Your Dolbyvision?
Fuck the relentless march of technology, making expensive tech obsolete less than 48 months after buying them.

The October Games with Gold lineup is here! On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, fly to the beat of the rhythm in Aaero and fight the power using parkour in Hover. And for our lineup via Backward Compatibility, take down Dracula with your favorite heroes in Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, and relive the survivor-horror classic Resident Evil Code: Veronica X.

Has anyone had problems with joystick drift on their XSX controller? I've noticed the right analog stick has started to drift upwards, which is a bit odd as I don't use that one anywhere near as often as the left stick. What's the MS warranty like?

No problems here with my controller. Re: warranty. I only have experience with getting my console swapped out whilst in warranty. Got to be honest, the entire experience was fantastic. Discounting the (reasonable amount of) time I was without my console. But in regards to a controller, I have no idea. Give them a call. I'll expect they'll be quite helpful.
