Goddammit. I am now looking at my 2018 Samsung like an unwanted houseguest that's has pissed in the corner. How dare you come into my home, only able to entertain me in HDR and 4K? Where is your VRR? Your 120hz? Your Dolbyvision? Fuck the relentless march of technology, making expensive tech obsolete less than 48 months after buying them. /Browses Samsung site for new TVs Might be worth double checking... My 2018 NU8xxx model has VRR and 120hz (well, 1440p 120hz at least) I'm that type of Font Geek that reads the spec sheet before I buy it, about twenty times whilst it is in transit and then once a month, just for good measure. These newfangled features aren't available on a QE49Q6FNA. Also, when checking the 4K TV details section in the settings on the Xbox, where it tests what your TV can and can't do, I get irrefutable proof that my TV doesn't support 120Hz. Nor Dolby Vision. But that's okay. Only a lunatic would buy a new TV for no other reason but FOMO.

Has anyone had problems with joystick drift on their XSX controller? I've noticed the right analog stick has started to drift upwards, which is a bit odd as I don't use that one anywhere near as often as the left stick. What's the MS warranty like? Had bad joystick drift on my left thumbstick (either from some spirited Hades/Psychonauts 2 sessions or more likely accidental abuse). Sent it off to Microsoft and a new one was dispatched the same day they received my old one. There's a one year limited warranty on them. You will need to register your controller as a separate device using its serial number at account.microsoft.com/devices and then open up a support ticket.

Man, I tried Dolby Vision out yesterday and I've gotta say everything just seems to pop. Almost too much.

It's an amazing upgrade IMO, seeing it working on my computer screen.

I'm still rocking a 7 year old 1080p set. Another 3 years and Mrs Hermit might let me think about upgrading. Only think about it mind you, actually upgrading is whole different conversation.

You need to enable it in Xbox TV display options

Well, whenever that glorious day rolls around, make sure to document it. I don't think I was even this happy when my son was born!

You need to enable it in Xbox TV display options I enabled the Dolby Vision for Gaming feature and Allow Dolby Vision in the Series X TV options and it still didn't work. Oh well, not the end of the world but it's definitely annoying.

What TV do you have?

I got my Series X last week, but I don't think I've got the Dolby Vision Xbox update that was announced yesterday.
I've always had the checkbox option to enable Dolby Vision, and my TV (LG CX) without a doubt supports it (confirmed by a green tick in the Xbox settings) but I've yet to find a game that triggers the "Dolby Vision" notification on my TV.
I believe Gears V is a Dolby Vision title, and although I have no interest in playing it, I might download it just to see if I can trigger DV.

Loads of games triggering Dolby Vision on my CX, pretty much any that I tried in fact.
It's been mentioned before but worth mentioning again, if you have a CX Dolby Vision will only work if you're running in 60hz at 4K, the TV doesn't support Dolby Vision at 4K/120, although there's an update due from LG to fix that imminently.

paulyboy81 This is what worries me. Many people online over the last 6 months have managed to enable Dolby Vision on their Xbox, as well as forumites on here. Other forumites (myself included) have had no luck at all, and all games default to "HDR" every time. I'm aware that DV only works at 60Hz on the CX (until the new firmware update) and I've tried every settings combination possible on the Xbox / LG CX. I've even tried turning HDR off whilst keeping DV enabled and it still doesn't force it. Are you running Xbox system updates from the Xbox Insider programme?

I am in the insider program yes, but only my Series X console is enrolled in it. I've just grabbed my Series S from the bedroom (which is running bog standard public release firmware) and plugged it into the CX, Dolby Vision is working fine on that also.

Intriguing. Got any examples of games that's it's working with? I've been playing Dirt 5, Forza Horizon 4, and MS Flight Simulator, and Ori and the Blind Forest on my Series X, all of which display as "HDR" on my CX when the console is set to use Dolby Vision.

Just tried Flight Sim, displays as Dolby Vision.
Besides that I've tried AC: Odyssey, AC: Valhalla, Resident Evil Village, World War Z, Marvel's Avengers, Outriders, COD: Warzone.
Even Auto-HDR stuff like ROBLOX is showing up as Dolby Vision.

paulyboy81 Right, I've got it working. My Dolby Vision setting had become switched off in the background somehow, despite checking it was enabled countless times. Flight Sim and Ori and the Blind Forest (auto HDR) both displayed in Dolby Vision. Forza Horizon 4 still displays in standard HDR though, despite restarting the game. I checked my system update log and apparently I got the Dolby Vision update in the middle of the night on the 25th (Saturday) yet I received no notification of this. What I find perplexing is that it would seem that update on Saturday caused Dolby Vision to be disabled in the settings, yet I've checked it since then. ... user Dave_McCoy mentioned on the 27th that Dolby Vision had become automatically unchecked in the settings for him, which prompted me to check the setting myself.

It's a conspiracy, darkling. Someone at MS HQ is reading this thread and pissing themselves laughing as they toggle the setting on your console remotely.

Make sure AMD freesync is disabled in your CX settings, it cancels out DV. Same with 120fps mode in your Xbox settings.

Phattso Haha, I think you're right Those pranksters. richardiox I'm aware of all the caveats in the settings, but thanks for the tips anyway. I must have spent hours researching settings at this point... What's my life become? robthehermit I've only had a quick bash on Ori, but it did look better IMO. The darks looked inkier and the highlights seemed to pop more, but Ori will be "Auto Dolby Vision". Flight Sim looked a bit duller in the menus if anything, but I'll have a proper Xbox session after work and post my opinions.

Anyone got any recommendations for games not on game pass? Any genre really. I've had my seriesx since June and haven't bought a single game yet. GP sub is about to lapse too since I've got what I wanted out of it.

Technically that's on GamePass though, via EA Access.

Are the servers working again? There were naughty people messing with them a while back and the servers kept crapping out.
Been a bit of this on TF1 this week too. Which is annoying when i just want to stomp about for a quick couple of games.

Thanks people. I have a love and or hate relationship with Ass assins creed. Enjoyed the ones pre level progress orientated, but couldn't get on with the Egypt one with ebygum or whoever it was. Do you still get slaughtered by anything a level or two above you, or have they calmed down a bit?
Immortals does not look like my cup of tea, but it's pretty cheap so may give it a bash.
I've got TF2 already on my PS4, which I enjoyed quite a bit, but last time I played it the severs were acting up due to...whatever it it that's currently going on with them :/
