See I'm weird in that I love the dungeons. I've spent a stupid amount of time down there. I don't even play the main game any more. There's some wonderfully horrible enemies and bosses in there. I loved them too. I'm sure there's room for improvement but it was such a great optional feature - I've found myself yharning for them in subsequent Souls games and derivatives (okay, perhaps Elden Ring doesn't need them).

Threaded Cane, Beast Cutter, Kirkhammer, Burial Blade and Blades of Mercy Favourite boss is Amelia. Love the design, intro cutscene and how aggressive she is, all screechy and smashy I really enjoyed the Chalice Dungeons and Yharnam is a cool final boss. If you just do all the dungeons in order, you should get all the materials you need for the next one each time. I didn't have to repeat or farm for anything. The environments do change a bit as you get further down. I think the atmosphere in them is great and there's some really interesting encounters and new enemies/bosses. Plus there's a unique weapon down there and special versions of all the others, as far as I remember. Maybe an armour set too
And if we're doing best armours next, the black church dress thing
Best NPC, Eileen the Crow

Fav boss is probably ludwig in the dlc. Great cut scenes, the two phases are so different, great arena, great music, great reward and it’s one of the most important characters you heard about in the main game. Favourite armour is the charred hunter set or the cainhurst set.

Whole lot of lack of Lady Maria happening in this "best bosses" talk...

Lady Maria is my favourite. Fantastic boss and doesn't need to be some giant beast that destroys the camera for it to be great.
Finally beating Orphan of Kos is one of the most satisfying achievements in gaming. Even Elden Ring's Malenia wasn't as satisfying, as I ended up doing it fairly simply on my latest character by the time I actually faced her (perhaps because I had punished myself on many of the DLC bosses before confronting her... or because I was at a higher level than I had previously been).

Orphan's first phase is easy. Second phase is mash all the buttons, wiggle the sticks and hope you're the one left standing at the end

Danno helped me beat the Defiled Watchdog a couple of years back, otherwise I'd still be stuck on that fiery cunt! I wish Sony would allow/order Bluepoint to work on a BB remake soon and not make us wait for it to be a PS6 launch title...

It would make me get a ps6 though… I remember my first few play throughs I breezed through the boss before Maria and more recently it takes me 3-5 tries. I’ve somehow got worse on them. Last night was maybe the first time I ever got the magic shield, unless I’ve found it before and forgot. Makes the whole meteor shower attack easy and I imagine I can now block the fucking annoying random attack micolash does at the end that’s totally random if it one shots you or not.

I never know which weapon to start with. I have no idea on build but what's the *easiest*? Saw spear? Easiest is axe at the start. The axe and the cleaver can get you through the whole game. Remember to actually parry, the brick men in the starting areas are super easy to and a lot of the normal enemies but the normal ones don’t really need to be. Quick way to level is rush to cleric so you can actually level then old yarnham to get twin chunks etc to get your starter weapon +3 quickly. I’ve been playing offline as I don’t have ps+ and it’s been nice without messages and blood stains everywhere. Re build pick your main attack and go +25. Stamina lvl with vitality until 20 then more vitality. Or do what ever you like.

Rifle spear is great for the mid game, it's in Old Yarnham. Saw Cleaver or Hunter's Axe til then

I did roll a quick char last week, but it was just a quick random char without much thought so may well start again. I excitedly haven't played this properly for a long time. But, er, I have just invested in a new dark souls character as well. Erm.

And cheers for the info in the edit - I forgot about the twin shards. It's been a while.

Threaded Cane is the best choice at the start because it's the gentlewoman's weapon and stabbing it into the ground while you're walking around never gets old. Used it all through my first time It's a cane, right, and it turns into a whip you can lash enemies with. Why would you pick a boring old axe You can nip to the DLC early and grab the Beast Cutter without much hassle. It's basically a strength variant of the Threaded Cane that you can flatten enemies with First time seeing an enemy swing that thing at the little hairy goblins was terrifying. Then you get it

Also, everyone walks around constantly transforming their weapons for the sake of it, right?

Also, everyone walks around constantly transforming their weapons for the sake of it, right? Obviously. But the cane…..just no. He asked for easiest. It looks cool, it’s the gentleman’s choice but its dps is terrible versus the “easy” options. I true gentleman wears the knights attire with a cane and a cainhurst duelling pistol.

I always prioritise looks/coolness
If you're going down the parrying route, worth keeping in mind that visceral attacks scale with dex, plus the threaded cane allows you to use both forms one handed, so you always have a gun equipped. It also has range and lower stamina use
