RadicalRex I quit that game for very similar reasons. Loved the early parts of the game but then they added more and more stuff which made the game much more frustrating and stressful. It was a shame as I really enjoyed it until then and people raved about it.

I’ve abandoned Plague Tale. I’m glad I gave it a go. The setting, tone, style, etc all very interesting and cool. The gameplay not so much. After my 6th attempt and trial-and-erroring one particular section, and dying yet again, it stopped being fun in any way. I might go back to it eventually but I need something fun and joyful for a little while The bit where you defend the guy pushing the cart in front of the archers?

Ori and the Blind Forest (Definitive Edition). I was doubtful if this game was for me, but I saw it on Steam for €5 so I thought I'd give it a try anyway. Indeed it wasn't for me. The overload of cute-sad didn't do much for me, which is probably a pretty big part of the game's appeal already. But I also struggled with the jump mechanics, I didn't like the combat system etc. Went on to see if it gets better with more abilities after you get the obligatory double jump, wall jump, air dash etc., but I didn't like the bash mechanic at all, that made me enjoy it even less--not least because it forced me to use thumbstick instead of d-pad. I also hated the escape sequence, I learned there's more of them and even a stealth section. Realised that going on would just lead to ever more frustration, so after 4 hours I quit. It seems like a great game for the right audience, but for almost everything I like in a platformer it seems to go in the opposite direction. Found it pretty forgettable. The impact of the escape sequences wears off when you've already died about 4 times and the music carrying on like it's this amazing exciting moment is just annoying. I didn't like the air dash move thing where you have to aim it, if that's the one you mean - it just felt clumsy. As far as I remember the enemies were all purple blobs as well.
Glad you posted this because there's been a lot of comments about how good it and the sequel are and I was wondering if I was mistaken
One thing I really didn't like was the save system. It's too instantanious. It's the same reason I don't like games like Meat Boy and Celeste. Those instant restarts make it feel more frustrating and less satisfying at the same time. You don't really improve or beat a section, just repeat over and over until it becomes muscle memory or you just get lucky

The Ori sequel is quite a bit better than the original.
The first Ori does have very odd traversal options and a weird combat approach. This does however make it fairly unique and also gives it its challenge due to its strangeness. (I gave it 7/10 a few years back but can fully understand abandoning it).
The sequel keeps the propel yourself off an enemy projectile move (which was the most interesting) but ditches all the other oddities and includes a combat system far closer to Hollow Knight. (Not anywhere near as good though). There are even a few combat bosses. It does have a few new ideas of its own too but they are all easier to conceptualise. (I gave it 8/10 when I finished it last week).

Yeah, the bash, that bouncing off enemies/projectiles thing... it was certainly the most original mechanic (at least as far as I played) compared to your bog-standard wall jump etc., but it also was the one I liked least. I didn't enjoy it at all. If Ori 2 keeps it, I'm already not interested. Hollow Knight combat but worse and boss fights just deter me further, so thanks for the warning.

You didn't like Hollow Knight? Maybe I should clarify, I didn't mean to say HK combat is bad, it's quite alright (at least at its core). What I meant was, while "worse version of HK combat" does sound better than the "mash button while near the enemy" of Ori 1, it doesn't sound like it'd be enough to make me like the game. "Deter" is maybe too strong a word in this case, but enough for me to give the game a pass. I also just watched some gameplay footage, it does indeed look better than Ori 1 combat, but still not convincing to me. As for not liking HK, I'd rather not start this debate again. In short, while at its core I like the game, there are some design decisions that really frustrated me and soured the experience.

It uses Bash far less frequently than in the original and also makes it easier to use. It also has easier moves late into the game that supersede it. Ori 2 combat can be made trivially easy with some pins. Just put on fully upgraded versions of all the bow boosts to rinse bosses in seconds.

No, it's fine - was more that I took your comment to mean you didn't like the HK combat. HK feels great to play. Personally I love it but it's not your typical metroidvania

Each to their own. I love the HK combat. An excellent example of using weight and momentum in combat. Its so satisfying once you get the hang of it.

Lucah: Born of a Dream.
What the actual fuck is this? Visuals caused instant confusion and headache. Combine that with just the most obscure game direction, and I literally had no idea what was going on, or why. Made me wish I could burn digital content with real-world fire.

Saints Row 3 Remastered (free on EGS)
I imagine it's a pretty big upgrade on console, where the original probably ran at 600p20 or something like that. On PC I'm playing both versions at 1080p60, so it's a much smaller upgrade, if any. Yes, environment lighting quality is better and cars are more detailed now. However, characters look shit now, which to me outweighs those other improvements. It's really off-putting.
On top of that, I can't give my character black hair anymore, it's been replaced by some sort of steel grey. Likewise for clothing, I wanted to buy a black leather jacket but the darkest available is medium grey. Same for all other clothing I checked. I tried different display and brightness settings, but it just wouldn't work.
And then my character's makeup. In the creator I couldn't remove the thick purple lipstick or replace it with anything else, the game ignored every attempt at changing anything in the makeup section. I hoped maybe it'd work in one of those surgery shops, but no luck. The preset that looked perfectly fine in the original looks like some 100 year old vampire now.
So overall, the game ended up looking worse than the original. Apparently it also has some bonus missions but I just don't want to play this version of the game.

You abandoned the game because of the character creator, Mr. Robber? Personally I can't wait to try it, have it already downloaded and ready. I loved the original, although preferred the SR2 in general to be honest.

Well I couldn't have non-purple lips, I couldn't have black hair, I couldn't have black clothes which does annoy me a lot, especially since the original has none of these issues whatsoever. But I think worst of all is how the other characters look, the old comic style fit the game perfectly, the new semi-realistic look doesn't fit imo. e.g. Shaundi and Pierce looked great in the original, they look bland and stupid now imo. All their charm is lost.
Enough for me to abandon this version because I can just play the original instead.

I've abandoned Saints Row 3 Remastered as well. Well you were right Robber about characters looking different. There is not enough re-mastering for me to warrant replaying this as I have spent insane amount of hours with the original. Still love the game, but this version is intended for the newcomers to the franchise imho.
Also will probably abandon XCom 2. I love most things aboout it, but there is too much stuff to do, too much information gets thrown at me every step of the story. I'd appreciate a more streamlined approach, without the base management, research, bulding stuff and so on. Absolutely love the setting though.

Nearly abandoned Guacamelee 2 last night. I'm 12 hours in and on the Infierno level, so I presume somewhere near the end, butI've not been as infuriated with a game in a long time. Some of the challenge rooms have been infuriating but fun, but this one.... Because the enemies are all bombs on timers that one-shot you even if you're not in the vicinity when they run out, you get split-seconds to carry out an exact series of moves - there's no deviation because it's laid out to an exact path and you will die if you don't do exactly what it wants. I resorted to looking it up on YouTube, and it still took me half an hour to execute.
Then there was a section straight afterwards that just made me think 'fuck this game, it's stupid', then I felt stupid because it was actually nowhere near as difficult as it looked, I just wasn't paying attention due to the red mist.
Then it turned me into a giant chicken and made me invincible for a few minutes and all was right again.

At least you got rid of the annoyingly placed hyphen in the title.

The main problem with the sequel is that it checkpoints so often that it has absolutely no problem throwing sections at you that you've no change of doing on your first go, with the rationale that you'll only be sent back a moment or two at most. For the most part it works, but it's just getting obnoxious toward the end, and even the fights are starting to throw balance out the window now.

Guac 2 (and 1) is a a great game, but yeah, when your missus comes downstairs and says "can you PLEASE stop swearing so much!", you know you should probably give it a break for a while.
Absolutely fucking infuriating towards the end, and I came very close to giving up on it too.

I hate games like that - Meat Boy, Celeste - where there's really difficult sections you're expected to die on but respawn almost immediately so you can just brute force it. Mid-level checkpoints where you have to repeat sections are much better. It's less frustrating and actually makes you feel like you've beaten a level properly. For me, there should be a reasonable expectation that you can finish a level without dying first time if you're careful or good enough. It's one of the things Mario games do so well, the challenge usually comes from getting the collectables in the level.
Guacamelee is a game I've always looked at but never got on board with. Makes it easier to know it's one of them games

To be fair, Meat Boy and Celeste are supposed to be rock-hard platformers where you need to practice a section multiple times before progressing (hence the instantaneous checkpoints). Without that challenge they'd be pretty dull platformers.
But yeah, agree that it feels out of place in a Metroidvania like Guacamelee 2, which is obviously about much more than just platforming (haven't actually played it yet, but I did enjoy the first one and I assume the sequel is more of the same).

Sequel is a lot better - at its best there's some Treausre-level shit going on. Just feels like it's getting lazy toward the end. Sections that you MUST memorise in a platformer are a no-go for me. I remember the Giana Sisters game having bits like that as well, pissed me right off.

Guacamelee 2 is good, but the humor went from clever pop culture references to recycled internet memes. There's still a few good laughs to be had (and one great joke section) but it was definitely several steps below the first game. The gameplay was somewhat improved though, but it kinda feels like more of the same so I don't suggest playing them back to back.

Abandoning Resident Evil 0, too difficult not fun any more. Pity because the puzzles were good imo I found that one of the more manageable ones. If I remember rightly, it almost keeps you moving around the mansion in a loop with just the odd item hidden off to one side. I found it a lot more straightforward than REmake anyway. Damn, now I've going to have to play REmake again over Halloween.
