Which reminds me I haven't played Bulletstorm either so I think that's my next game sorted!

Painkiller: Black Edition (Steam) I was bored by the third level. It does the Serious Sam thing of throwing waves at you but lacks the colour or interesting weapons early on to keep you hooked. There was some strange physics going on as well with bodies/the character being occasionally launched across the room for some reason which was irritating. I keep hearing how great it is, but the maps are just a bunch of combat areas without any context and the way they are built is usually also just not impressive or interesting. Like a bunch of not particularly remarkable multiplayer maps strung together almost randomly. Combat is fine, but not fun enough to sustain the game for 8-10 hours or so. I did finish it on the second try, but might as well just not have.
I honestly liked Pankiller Resurrection more as the maps were much larger and often more impressive. Enemy spawning is cheap though and a lot of people seem to dislike it. The level architecture did also lead to some trouble with navigation at times as far as I remember.

Bulletstorm was a good laugh back in the day. I remember finding it incredibly jarring when I got the Remastered version for free and realising that there was no jump button and the invisible walls were laughable.

I was interested in Bulletstorm but didn't bother because of this low violence version shit in Germany (uncut patches didn't work properly in some games, so it was a risk). Just looked it up now, they un-cutted the German version a few years ago and it's 90% off on Steam. Here we go!

Bought a retail version of TimeShift some years back and was surprised to find that there were no Uncut-patches for once... Maybe it doesn't make much of a difference, but how would I be able to tell?

I remember having a good time playing Bulletstorm until I hit a bug and couldn't progress any more. The talk here had me consider digging out the remaster I got for free years ago.

Bulletstorm
Eh. I expected more of an arcade game without much in the way of story or anything, but damn it's really heavy on story, dialogue and scripted sequences. And all of it is terrible. Add QTEs for more suck. All of this needs to be deleted, but even the action itself isn't as engaging as I hoped. Nah, I'm out.
Baba is You
Loved the idea, it's very intriguing early on. But once the novelty wore off, pretty soon I found it less and less fun to play.

The Ascent (PC) - an isometric view action RPG in cyberpunk setting. Addictive, but doesn't run well on my laptop (UE4 error) and why they chose the color red as predominant is beyond me (I don't like color red). Might return to it later.

Gungrave: Gore - laughably bad. Its not really even a proper game. You just have to keep pressing shoot and it targets for you. It looks like it should be bayonetta x gears of war but its like operation wolf on autopilot. Absolute shite.

Do you actually like anything apart from Borderlands? Yeah, quite a few things. Don't want to name them though or I'd quickly be talking about why they suck

Rob likes loads of stuff (Mega Man, Bloodstained, Fallout, Ride 4, Binding of Isaac)
I think he just plays/tries a lot of games so pops up in the Abandoned thread a lot
/stalker
To be fair, I've been meaning to look at Bulletstorm for ages but as soon as someone mentioned you can't jump, it sounded shit

I'm sure I must have liked Borderlands at some point, because I played and finished at least one of them. But every time I think about it, I hate it more. Especially the third one, which is just poison to me.
Not sure what happened, really. I guess maybe my tastes just changed over the last decade or so.

The tone and humour was pure trash, like the shooting mechanics were sound, not a fan of gameplay which felt like it hasn't moved on with its endless fetch quests.

Yes, but my intense dislike for BL3 has got me questioning what (if anything) I actually liked about the series in the first place. I could go back to earlier games to test the theory, but I'm scared to. Plus I have like a billion other things to play, which does not help.

The popularity of Borderlands is genuinely baffling to me. The gunplay is fucking awful. Shitty peashooter guns against none existent enemy AI. Even the loot side of it is irritating. And the "humour" is Beano level at best.

The gunplay in Borderlands 3 is amazing, some of the best of the genre really
As for the other complaints, I'm not sure what the issue with fetch quests would be, it's all just an excuse to shoot things and get loot. The writing stops the quests feeling repetitive in my opinion. Loot in Borderlands 3 is incredibly generous as well, the game throws legendaries at you constantly and the weapons are all so widly different. It's lovely
The writing is a sight better than Diablo 3, which has truly boring dialogue and a terrible story

Had a ton of fun with Borderands and 2-3 mates over the last ten years. Can't really ask for more. Doesn't do anything spectacularly but does most things well (bar the humour/writing).

Borderlands gunplay is nowhere near the best in the genre, Halo, Rainbow 6, Destiny and Cod are miles ahead.
