Whilst I do agree it's quite bad in places and the protagonists are horrendous, I still enjoyed it more than I thought and finished it. Something about these new Wolfenstein games that's really annoying. They are all so close to being great but just...aren't. Still damn good fun though, when they aren't being overly po-faced and dramatic or when you're not pissing about in a pointless hub mid-mission. I really enjoyed Wolfenstein 2 despite it hobbling my health for almost half the game and me having to reduce the difficulty a notch to ensure that I wouldn't melt when an enemy shot me for 1 second. I see this complaint a lot but, although it's ages since I played it, I'm pretty sure you get double armour at the start of the game and lower health, which I assumed basically works out the same as having normal health. It was just suppose to reflect that he's depending on the suit more at the beginning. I can't remember if your max armour drops back down when you get full health again, but I imagine it does

The issue was that on the default difficulty the damage scaling against you was massively out of whack so you were always looking for armor while having barely any health.

Funnily enough, they halved your max health on Nightmore in the recent Quake remaster (also Machine Games) but you don't get the double armour to compensate. At least it distinguishes it from Hard now

4 hours into Biomutant and I think I'm done, playing this after Kena does it no favours. Can any EGer give me a reason to keep playing, I have just unlocked the water speeder thing.

High On Life (Xbox S via GP)
Have to give this up after 1hr… initially amusing and good quality graphics if a little ropey on the gameplay but omg the nonstop constant idiotic “banter”. Sorry but any game where you either have to be stoned or like getting off your t*ts to find it funny is just not for me. Shame because if it was handled with less of a stoner comedy vibe and more of an alternative comedy angle then this could have been very good…

The Expanse (SX)
Clunky controls, dated graphics... Yep, it's a telltale game. The ridiculously minor bit that grated was one of your crew having a cigar and ashtray just sitting on a surface, which seemed totally at odds with the book series I'd just finished reading.
I'll probably give it another chance, but clearly wasn't in the mood and just looking for excuses to drop it.
/edit Sounds like it's part of the lore and belters smoke wherever the fuck they want, so no points lost for authenticity.

When somebody says you have to have an acid trip while listening to an album to enjoy it, then that album is shit. As for High is Life, even if the humour isn’t your taste, it’s pretty poorly paced and hollow. I got so bored with it and pushed on further than I should have.

Likely an unpopular opinion, but I've dropped Hollow Knight on Xbox.
It's definitely a "me" thing rather than it being a bad game. Loved it to begin with but Ive made fairly minimal progress and just seem to be tooling around the same areas again and again. I'm not a fan of checking online guides as they tend to spoil a lot, so it could just be that I'm missing something incredibly obvious.
Loved the grim atmosphere of it all. May pick it up again in the future.

It's one that I keep trying again and again, just to see if maybe *this* time I get it, but I'm just not able to. It seems to be quite heavily front-loaded on the difficulty aspect, and I've played the same parts over and over now while making barely any progress.

Yeah, it's a relatively shallow start. Bit of dungeon delving. A lot of trepidation. A lot of dying. Oodles of confusion. It's likely that the larger loops of the game never revealed themselves to y'all, and that's where the joy is. It's definitely not a "you need to play 15 hours to enjoy it" game, but if it doesn't grab you early on people do tend to bounce off it. You're not alone in this for sure.

Atomic Heart
The combat is too crap to continue. Enemies aren't interesting to fight which adds to the crapness. Plus the cringe attempts at comedy and fetch quests, just wasn't worth it.

I thought that would happen. You're better off not forcing it, because you wouldn't feel any different once the credits rolled.

Atomic Heart opinions are confusing. The spectrum seems to include everything and I don't remember any arguments that sounded compelling to me.

Interesting world which is also great to look at, bad writing and bad gameplay.
I guess it depends how much you can ignore the last 2 as to how much you will get out of it.

That's the thing though. "Bad gameplay" is an opinion that isn't shared by everyone. The powers did seem unoriginal and the FPS-gameplay not that satisfying and pretty clunky, but the impression I was getting was that upgrades and finding a good setup/approach for combat are important. The respawning wasn't exactly widely appreciated from what I remember.
The writing not being good seems to be the only thing where pretty much everyone agrees. Weren't there also some complaints about the game being too long with somewhat annoying puzzles and possibly annoying/spongy bossfights as well?

Nah. Just bad gameplay. Honestly. And I’m one of the most forgiving people on the planet. It just never felt good to play.

It definitely looks the part, it looks like all of the effort went into that then everything else is a shit copy of Bioshock.

And to think a load of people got all pissy about it because it may have had connections to the Russian government and were ready to defend it to the death. Then most people realised it was deeply average, especially in a year of some truly amazing games. Did it even get it's ray tracing patch or was that just bollocks from them?

I bought it at launch (if anyone can recall my conflicted guilt) and played through it all. It really was a frustrating and mainly "meh" experience. The only thing that kept me playing was purely that it all looked so pretty and - in all fairness - ran like a fucking dream. But it was just lacking something in every part of it which, when added up, just made for a not particularly pleasant gaming experience. Combat was awful with melee weapons that had no weight resulting in no heft to something that was an integral part of the game. Ranged weapons didn't fair much better, and it never felt like you were doing decent damage. The Bioshock-esque powers were underbaked and mostly superfluous to the point I forgot I had them. The open world was a chore to get through with the enemies everywhere. You could deactivate the security for a bit and shit but really, why bother, as that was just a chore as well. Boss fights were shit. You could interact with dead bodies but not once did I bother listening to what they had to say, because I didn't give a shit. Structure and pacing was all over the place and there was FAR too much reliance on these fucking test facilities that went on for EVER and rewarded with some shitty upgrades you didn't need. I felt obliged to do them and I swear they made up half the fucking game. It just NEVER felt actually enjoyable to play.
Unlike a lot of people, I didn't actually find the protagonist that bad, but he could have been a hell of a lot better.

The constant swearing to make him cool were really grating, and the cringe attempt at humour with the upgrade fridge thing was horrible. But yeah, spot on about the rest. It felt like a 360 game given an amazing visual upgrade. I think I'd have been a lot more forgiving back then and actually played through as well.
But as soon as I got above ground and there were robots that repaired other robots you've killed, my fuck that instinct kicked in.

Atomic heart was a mess of a game, at launch it was crapped out. Also the open world sections was so dumb where robots were constantly repaired (even if you destroyed the repair bots, the game would spawn more) Also the game could do anything for level design for the interiors and you had bland grey offices etc for a lot of the game, not a good look. Sometimes the creative level design would be there but its rare.
I don't mind swearing in games but in this it was cringe, "crispy fuckin critters!!!!111" also the rapey fridge - I would hate to use the devs fridge at that office
Also the game had some difficulty issues near the start as melee combat was shit against the strong robots

I have it on my "played a couple of times then forgotten" pile of shame, but plan to return to it sometime in the distant future, once other more compelling games, like Lies of P, Lords of the Fallen, Baldur's Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Assassin's Creed Mirage, etc. are done and dusted; fuck, that's a huge list, I won't play it at all, me thinks...

Yeah, it was the constantly spawning and respawning enemies that killed it for me. Utterly tedious.

Thought Atomic Heart always looked like it had the potential for crapness. I wouldn't even remember the game existed now if people weren't talking about it
