Yeah it was the blocks - quite enjoyable and bit different to say the least!
I never played the first one so this is all fresh to me. It's not a classic by any stretch but it's more enjoyable and has more substance than I expected it to, plus playing it co-op with friends automatically bumps it up a couple of points.

It's bloody huge as well. Each zone has so much going on as well. So many little secret things to find and do. That's before you take into account your playthrough isn't even the saem as my playthrough etc. I really must give it the time it deserves.

We even spent a good twenty minutes on a puzzle yesterday that was its own little area and were pleasantly surprised when the logical solution actually worked! Seemed a nice breather in between mowing down hordes.

Dead island 2
The game was under development hell for years and they almost got it right but if fans can mod the game then it would be really good. It feels unbalanced for solo players, its lazy to make it harder but cheap. Also the first 2 powers you get - war cry and ground pounded are shit and the rage mode does not last long. Also also the brusier and screamer zombies are fucking annoying to fight. Another stupid thing is mission checkpoint, you can restart and you don't get back your health kits and ammo (which are vert limited) so you restart with the same amount when you died
Its a real shame, as there is a real good game under the shit. It can really gory when you smack a zombie and the characters are OTT in a good way

Dead island 2 wasn't even remotely difficult from what I remember, you may well not be doing something correctly.

Syphon Filter on ps5. This hurts as I loved the original trilogy on ps1, more than mgs, more than SC. Age has not been kind to this game. I really tried but it is just to frustrating, from the one stick control to the ball ache of switching weapons. I got to the 3rd mission but after spending an hour on it tonight and just continuously failing, that is enough for me. 😥

NFS Unbound - I just can’t get passed the “Street” setting of the game… the horrendous music and naff story mode. Gameplay is good but not great.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising - I get this is a kind of proof of concept preview/companion piece but it’s so lite on rpg it’s not for me. Very pretty though!
Yakuza games (all real-time brawlers… so most of them!)… I’ve tried to get into them but I just don’t like brawlers/beat-em-ups and the overly serious lengthy cut scenes are just too much… if they could do one more in line with the wackiness of YLAD I’d give it a go but the “serious” yakuzas are not for me…

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (GC/Wii)
About 20 years late but still disappointed - I have to applaud them though for managing to capture some of the worst mechanics of the time in one game.
It does the whole light/dark world thing so you aren't actually exploring anything new just retreading the same path. The game is more linear than I remember the original being and seems to have been put together by people who wanted it to be an absolute chore to traverse: a confusing map, dead ends so you have to trudge the long way back you came, killing the same bullet sponge enemies.
The thing that tops it all is the dark world which constantly eats away at your health if you aren't in a light bubble. It's one of those mechanics that should be nowhere near video games and on everyones hated list. It also looks drab as fuck which doesn't help.
The Trilogy version might improve on some aspects but my patience was done.

Shame. It's obviously not as much of a classic as the previous game, but I still enjoyed my time with it back in the day. Even with the brutal boss fights in the GC original. Having said that, I probably haven't played it in well over a decade so major rose tinted glasses.
Hopefully it gets a Switch remaster soon.

I took the fella with the afro, I don't think he is too tanky. He has the most health but I found easy way to kill zombies by blocking then spamming attack, you can kill most zombies in a counter which really helps get through the game. Got me playing it again

I couldn't finish the last bossfight in Dap. It's an extremely tight timing in melee and while I think I almost did it a few times, after a few dozen tries I just gave up on it.
Otherwise the game was very good though. Music and art and atmosphere were great and the story decent as well. There were a few spots where I wouldn't have minded an additional checkpoint, but otherwise it wasn't too difficult for the most part. But getting these kinds of timings right isn't really my forte.

City Skylines: Remastered Edition (Series X)
After becoming fascinated by all the issues present in the sequel, as explained by fans, I actually became hungry to play the original. I’m a big fan of Sim City (SNES), Sim City 2000 and even Sim City DS, but this is quite a different take on the city builder (at least in terms of execution).
I’ve been playing it in small chunks for the past few weeks, hoping for something to click, but it just isn’t happening. I can’t quite put my finger on it, either. It could be the lacklustre presentation, which is functional and informative, but just lacking any personality. It could be the controls, which actually offer a lot of flexible tools for road building and terrain deforming, but they seem to offer more than my ambition cares for.
I’ve had fun watching a city crumble because of my own errors, which is a nice change of pace. I didn’t realise the sewage I was pumping out would flow downstream and eventually find my water pumps on the other side of the map. Neither did I anticipate building a canal on my second attempt would flood the city so quickly.
But that’s about all the fun I’ve really had. There’s not been any of the satisfaction I used to get from sculpting my city and admiring the layout. No enthusiasm to watch buildings develop or change in appearance. No targets and goals to meet to give any real sense of progression. No awesome soundtrack to stimulate the ears. No end of year reports with amusing animations and criticisms of how your city is run. I’m just killing time and at the end of the day, what I’m doing with that time doesn’t really feel rewarding. And it doesn’t entertain until your hard work is in jeopardy, which is the complete opposite feeling to watching a city being destroyed in other sim builders.
I have given it a shot, I guess. I definitely see an appeal, for the right audience, as there is so much to tinker with and experiment on, but I just do not feel all that motivated to try. It all just fees a little soulless to me.
I should get on with giving Steamworld Build a try instead.

That's a shame, I loved Cities Skylines. My favourite aspect was the traffic management, which turned it into a kind of puzzle game. I came up with some pretty elaborate roundabout and junction layouts that I'm still quite proud of, in fact.

I have left it installed on the Xbox for now, in case the urge to play it returns, but it won’t be this side of Christmas. I think I just need something colourful and more immediately stimulating at the moment.

Abandoned Othercide (PC). From the few minutes I played I couldn't see XCom similarities apart from turn-based battles. Did not like anything about the game. At least it was free, I got the key from some generous internet person.

Thought I'd give Far Cry 6 a go as it's on Game Pass. Good grief, like taking a leap back in time a decade, to a company that couldn't give a fuck.

They just recycle the same old game and add tiny new feature and know its going to sell. A lot of the publishers games have become like a cheap buffet, lots of food but its not great quality (a lot of it is slop)

Black Moon Chronicles: Old RTS based on some french (?) comic book series and apparently very much inspired by Warhammer. I mostly just played through the tutorial campaign and spent much of the time micromanaging my hero instead of controling armies. I ended the small campaign by conquering a castle and the game seemed to suggest that that would have acted as the upgradeable home base for the campaign. But otherwise I haven't seen any base building, so the actual missions seem to all be purely tactical affairs with units that can gain experience. The story was done through text windows. Combat with troops was mostly a clusterfuck and it was pretty much impossible to know what was happening. Overall I was just lukewarm on it and while the soundtrack is great, that's the only standout.
Undertale: Sorry to say, but after an hour I don't know what people see in this. It's quirky and does things differently and tries to go for humor, but personally I didn't ever find it engaging. From what I've read this one mostly comes down to the question if one finds the characters charming, likes the music and humor and so on.

Yeah Undertale was hugely overrated. You don't hear much about it these days, I don't think it has stood the test of time.

Well, at least there's a number of reddit threads which pretty much express exactly this opinion. Thankfully because trying to look at negative reviews on Steam, it seemed a little like the fanboys were so concerned over their game that a lot of them started leaving negative reviews to comment on why anybody would be looking at negative reviews.

I never played Undertale, even though Moon was one of my favorite games for the PS1. But then, just because it was inspired by it, doesn't mean it has to play anything like it.

Robocop: Rogue City
Shame because it reminded me of The Darkness but it’s not as good. I got to the ED209 fight and it just wasn’t fun at all so that’s that. It’s all fine and some of it is good, but there is a lot of jank and the combat is sooooo dull.

Not abandoned just yet but I am somewhat struggling to find the will to continue playing FF7 Remake I completed chapter 11 on Sat. I have enjoyed, some of it greatly and I am enjoying...but less and less, seems to be very (too)slow. I read that the original is to be split over 3 games, this being the first of course, maybe that is why it is so "plodding"
I'm not 100% leaving but the thought of another 14 odd chapters is not filling me with joy. The one thing that will keep me playing is the cast of characters, all of them be it friend or foe have been excellent.
