I went back to Hirata Estate and managed to take care of Spear Wanker after two or three attempts. As is often the way, when he actually went down nobody was more surprised that me. It's all a little too frantic to be checking the UI for posture/vitality, I'm finding - just have to have at 'em and hope for the best. Made it all the way to the Juzou the Drunkard without dying after that fight, interestingly enough. Seems I might have the rank and file down better than I thought. Back on the Ashina path I've met another Mini boss that I'm parking because I can't be arsed clearing out the adds for an attempt. Interesting... *thing* just beyond that though. Not sure what to make of that just yet!

Played some more last night and absolutely smashing through this now! The second Snake Eyes guy went down first go, then got a bit stuck on the 2nd Ape fight. Took a little while to get through the 2nd phase as I'm definitely not used to fighting multiple enemies at once (Ornstein and Smough took me forever!), but eventually got past it with liberal use of firecrackers. Killed the Glutton on the first go, then Mist Noble was a joke, didn't even try and hit me. On to Mibu Village, Orin took a couple of goes as I got greedy, and now onto the Corrupted Monk. Got his posture almost all the way down on my first attempt in a close fight, but it was late so decided I was too tired to have another go and went to bed.
What's the best way of getting money? I never seem to have very much, and theres loads of prosthetic upgrades I want to buy, and I've just met a memorial mob selling another gourd and some fancy sake I haven't seen before, but its all multiple hundreds/thousands of sen!

I'm desperate to find something to spend the cash on! Presently I've got 100+ Spirit Emblems (or whatever they're called) in storage, but keep just losing all the cash I accumulate to mini-boss deaths.

You can buy the purses to stop you losing money on death. Keep them for the more expensive stuff. Don't know any ways of farming it though

Both headless ape fights have now been done. I eh, never realised how easy his phase 2 was before if you just stand there and deflect, only running away from the terror attack. Phase 1 of the first fight always seems a bit scatty but opening with oil / flame vent and following up with firecrackers seems to be the way to go. I then just ran about a bit and firecrackered the shit when I needed to. I can't believe I really struggled with him first time through. The fight with his mate was even easier as the mate went down so fast, then it was just deflect deflect deflect dead. Off to the castle again and my fight with Owl. Talking of which, my boy managed to nail owl after about 30 mins so he's on to the true monk fight now. The double ape fight was such a weird block for me, having found the single ape pretty easy. I literally couldn't get the second ape into a position where I could hit it even once without getting pumelled from off screen most attempts.

I remembered struggling a fair bit first time around. Possibly just got lucky and managed to seperate them enough.

I didn't even get the fight on my first playthrough. By the time I got to it my already impressive skills were God-like so first attempted it

Seems like you're using the extraneous stuff a lot more than I did wunty - if it genuinely useful?
The only thing I ever used was Divine Confetti against the Headless - all the other collectibles I categorised as 'Junk' and left them well alone

I'm deliberately trying everything out as much as I can this time around. Some of it is stupidly good, like landing two flaming axe hits followed by a fang and blade sword hit on one of the purple ninja twats resulting in him losing about 3/4 of his posture and ending up on fire. Or Ashina Cross on the Ashina sword boyz to fuck them up.

Cool. I think if I ever play it again I'll do the same. I constantly had the max spirit emblems on me (999 I think) all the time which was a bit of a waste thinking back
Same with Resident Evil games, I always end up with hundreds of shotgun shells, magnum rounds, grenades at the end as I just use the pistol and 'save' the good stuff for when I need it, i.e. never

I keep telling myself that if I can finish a game never using the good stuff, I should just enjoy it and use it as I get it as it won't stop me completing it if I run out, but I just keep hoarding it all anyway. I think that's part of the fun. Like having all the good weapons left at the end of Fire Emblem because I'm always using iron weapons until about 2/3 of the way though, then grudgingly begin the transition to steel weapons. The good stuff is for the final boss, nothing else!

Put it this way, I'm using a ton of stuff and I've still got about 450 - 500 emblems on me. What I do is use all the sen I hoover up for emblems, but keep my coin bags and break into them when I actually need to buy something.
It also helps I'm not dying very often in this play through so I'm not pissing all my sen away like I did last time.

Re emblems make sure you stock up a tonne early. They cost 10 before you kill genichiro. 20 or 30 after you kill guardian ape or spirit monk and 50 after you kill the other one of those two.

I don't think I ever bought any. Actually I don't think I noticed they weren't just auto restocked and that they were limited until near the end when I looked and saw I had 500 of them.

Juzou the Drunkard dispatched on the third attempt. Clearing the area was a must, but my “oh you silly nobber” moment was when I thought to let him reset and go for the sneaky death blow… and *then* invite my mate to join in. I can’t be far away from an actual boss now, I’d wager. Shitting it, if I’m just scraping by the mini-bosses!

The fight with his mate was even easier as the mate went down so fast... Ninja stud confirmed 😁.

As it happens Lady Butterfly wasn’t too terrifying. Can reliably get her heath to 50% in phase 2 but haven’t quite nailed a strategy for the other stuff going on. Feels doable, but slightly beyond me now. Went to other way, and ended up fighting a dude on a horse. NFI about that one yet. So. Bosses. Finally. Let’s see what I’m made of.

Sounds like you'll get Butterfly soon enough. I had quite a tough time with her on my first run. Horse bastard is easier than her though so I reckon you'll do okay once you figure him as well. Do you have the firecrackers?

I managed to nail Owl on my second go, so that's quite good. Back at Hirata now so on track for that ending. I may do Fountainhead first though just for the extra beads etc before I go back.

Also firecrackers fuck him up. But yeah just standing your ground and deflecting should do the trick, he doesn't really follow up if he breaks your guard either

Do people play with English or Japanese audio? I thought the English voice acting for the horse boss was quite a bit better

Oh god. Owl Father is a bit tough isn't he. Had about an hour on him last night and called it. Going to finish going through Fountainhead first I think. I know I'll be able to get him eventually but there's not much room for error. Phase 1 I'm just trying to stay on him until he either does the two hit then firecracker combo, or jumps away, then I'm legging it to him again and repeat. I have mortal draw and trying to punish the slow overhead attacks with it and also the unblockable sweep he does (by jumping and then getting two hits in while he then raises his sword).
But yeah. Bloody tough. In fact the only easy fucker left is that dragon and then it'll either be Owl, Isshin or Demon of Hatred. Joy.

Owl father one of my favourite fights. Yeah you need to be switched on as a lot of his moves can pretty much kill you.

Oh it's awesome, just really hard! I was starting to get him though. Phase 2 also doesn't look as though it throws TOO much extra shit into the mix. Just trying to time my dodge for his flaming owl so I can get ready for the mikiri. The rest is pretty much as phase 1 it seems barring the odd teleport and extra shuriken.

It's funny when you go "right, here we go, I think I'll do better this time", only to run in and get destroyed in under 3 seconds.
