Didn’t you say “never again” after completing it?

Didn’t you say “never again” after completing it? He is going to play it again properly and not just run around the bosses arenas chipping at their health for 27 minutes . On that note I think there should be a system where when you sprint your posture doesn't go down.

Yeah running away is not the way to play it, unless you’re a masochist

Yes. The aim is that I'm going to play it properly this time. I'm oddly optimistic as the boy gave me a quick go of his xbox one last night and I actually managed to deflect shit. A little. Before I got murdered.
I think it's going to be a bit of a Doom Eternal situation wherein I played through it all not really "getting" it and trying to play it as something else. I recently replayed Eternal and all the DLC and loved the shit out of it, so it's quite feasible the same will happen here.
It's also bugging me that it's the only FROM game since Demon's that I've not battered everything to death at least fifty times and seen every ending / boss.

Yeah running away is not the way to play it, unless you’re a masochist Tbf to Wunt I beat guardian ape, owl and last boss like that first run. Turns out in some respects it's actually much longer to beat them that way.

That’s how I played it too for a while, like Dark Souls basically. Stamina management and all that
It does work to a certain extent but attacking relentlessly works much more effectively

Oh god Isshin took me 25 solid minutes of running. Haha yep same..the other day I beat him twice, once for me and once for my son. Each must have been under five minutes and just staying right in front of him for all four health bars. I used to find phase three pretty much impossible.

I just didn't get it. At all. And that parrying shit - nah, it was hard enough without trying to read stupid little prompts and react with the 'correct' button. Fuck Sekiro. Fuck it right up its stupid ass.

I just stubbornly didn't give it the time I should have. Didn't bother to learn to deflect properly and spent most fights running away. Barely used the prosthetics as well.

I just stubbornly didn't give it the time I should have. Didn't bother to learn to deflect properly and spent most fights running away. Barely used the prosthetics as well. Most of the prosthetics add another element to the fights. I don't use them enough though, as it's a finite resource I hog them thinking I'll need them later. I ended my last run with 900+! The lilac shield is amazing, especially with projected force. Then later living force is amazing as you use the flame vent then turn your sword on fire. Not only does fire do more posture damage, any hard enemy with red eyes cowers as soon as you attack with fire. The last shuriken? (How do I not know how to spell this!?) upgrade damages enemies even when blocking and the combo upgrade allows you to rush in and close the game after using one. The axe when used with the in air prosthetics upgrade is a beast for knocking back enemies and doing high posture damage. Fire crackers are handy through out most of the game for stun locking enemies, especially beast classes. The spear and poison knives are more niche but amazing when used on the correct enemies. Then there's the upgrade tree for your skills. The various combat arts and ninja skills. One ninja skill you get later is beast mode, you execute an enemy then your sword absorbs their blood then for the next maybe twenty seconds you do bonus blood damage that utterly wrecks all enemies posture, including large tough enemies. Mortal draw is op all the way to the end. Things like guardian ape and his girlfriend becomes easy when you can run up to his girlfriend, fire cracker her then moral draw her. Puts her posture nearly max immediately so you can kill her in ten seconds when using the right tools. The last upgrade is empowered mortal draw, it takes loads of upgrades to unlock but it wrecks everything.

Bloody hell I forgot there were so many of them and they could be upgraded. Dare I say I'm actually starting to look forward to this a bit.
Until I start and Seven Spears kills me 7,000 times.

Seven spears. Stealth kill first health bar then he is stunned a few seconds so you hit him with oil then hit him with flame vent which sets him on fire. Then you hit him with your combat art and back up. Then just stand there and deflect him. Most of his unblockable attacks are thrusts which are easily mikiri countered which raises his posture. He often does this large combo and every final attack of that combo is this slow power attack which when you deflect makes him fall over so then you hit him with the double ichimon? attack. He is the perfect example of if you play too scared and try and back away from him he absolutely destroys you in two hits.

Fuck it right up its stupid ass. I actually think the game would be doable without that prompt. It's useful for sure but 99% of the time it's pretty predictable when it's going to come up and what attack it's going to be. It's like the ninjas who always do a thrust at the end of their kick combo. There's always a specific moment context each one can come up in. I didn't really get on with it for the first 1/2 of the game to be honest, the controls are nothing like what I expected and it's surprisingly heavy to control.

It's just a case of learning the timing of the attacks really. Pretty sure that works for most encouters apart from a few. Snake Eyes (God she's awful) bichii have you completed it without Kuro's Charm and ringing the Demon Bell? After that the base game is laughably easy

The final boss took me about 15 hours on my first play through. I decided to not use any of the cheese tactics - probably the most satisfying boss fight ever after taking him out.
The thought of playing this on the steamdeck next year blows my mind.

I started this on PS4 and it didn't really click after DS and Bloodborne so gave up early on. Gone back to it on PS5, determined to give it another crack and its so much smoother! Played for about 20 hours and I feel like the combat has finally clicked for me - I was spending too much time trying to dodge like in the other souls games - its so much easier when you stand right next to the enemies and parry. Up to the temple of illusions and really loving it!

Yeah I'm really tempted to pick it up again to play at 60fps. I got about halfway then fucked it off once the bullshit got too bullshitty. Ridiculous how little it's dropped in price though.

It is so much easier at 60fps. It's bullshittiness is the lowest of all from games when you get used to it's different flow. Before that moment though it can be very frustrating.

I've heard it's quite a bit easier at 60fps. yeah. Surprised you got half way through and gave up. I gave up on the no Kuro's Charm run (adds chip damage if you block but miss the parry) at the monk fight but loved the base game while I was into it
Most confusing part at the beginning for me was not being sure if I should be parrying or trying to do damage to enemies. It's a bit of both. The only time you really need to back off is to reduce your posture damage

Nah but that kind of thing has never really bothered me. The only time I've really noticed a difference with framerates was when I quit out of Nioh and immediately loaded Bloodborne. That was rough. Felt like I could see each individual frame. Got used to it after about 10 minutes though
