Was Drogba any good in 5? Because in the Japanese version it was definitely a case of 'if you feed the Drog...'.

4 or 6 for me as well, but probably 4. I would love an updated version of that, with modern res and widescreen support even if there players and teams were kept as then. Could emulate them in 4K in PCSX2.

I remember Vincent Kompany being absolutely insane in Master League in 4. I wasn't surprised he hit the ground running when he ended up at City a few years later, lad won me about 5 titles on the spin.

Czech Republic were also gods in PES 4, Jan Koller was like 6 foot 8, then you had Baros, Rosicky, Nedved, Smicer, Poborski, Repka, Berger etc.

Went to one of those retro arcade places and it had PES6. Still played a solid game.
If anyone does play a bit of the new one make sure you change passing to at least level 2 rather than 1. Makes it feel a lot more like you're in control.

I wish I had my old save file for 4 to see who was on ML team. Although I do remember I made a Ravanelli that looked pretty identical.

It is odd yeah. It's also odd that I was satisfied by a game that I could play by myself or with mates locally with no desire for anything else in a football game. Me and my mate's from back home had a yearly pro evo tournament that always got so heated it was that kind of game.

So did a free squad builder challenge and got toty Van Dijk which I then sold for 650k. Bought Rooney, toty Bruno, Beckham, Keane and Vidic with the proceeds. Insane I have got the game for free, have spent fuck all and have an incredible team.
All those poor kids parents that plough money into it. I can see where the addiction for them is though, quite exciting when you pack someone like that.

Lounge Mode on Pro Evo was just perfect. As others have said, always had a few games with beers before going out on the lash at Uni. Sometimes played a few games when we got back too, depending on how drunk we were.

How many of who played Pro Evo at uni took games a bit personally at times?

There were punch ups and tantrums in a lot of our games at school(uni, ha you old bastards).

At times? More like constantly.
It's bizarre - I never get angry or stressed at games. If I get close to that point I'll just turn it off or laugh at myself.
Football games are a completely different kettle of fish though - suddenly the game glitched, my mate's a proper wanker and I'm using the shit pad. Nearly came to blows once, embarassing.
I've also seen a friend of mine eject the game and launch it out of his window like a frisbee. Another friends' brother launched the Dualshock at the wall, then pulled the analogue sticks out of it, then ran it under water to make sure it was dead. Half an hour later he went to ASDA to buy another.
I miss football games.

I would love a return to silly arcadey sports games. NBA Jam, NBA and FIFA Street, NFL Blitz. Those types of fast over the top pick up and play games.

NBA Jam! My older cousin had that on MegaDrive. Was it the one where the commentator would shout 'He's on fire!' and the ball would literally be in flames? Amazing. Used to always go Orlando Magic.

They all seemed to die out when multiplayer moved from couch games to online.

The trouble is, gamers demand more depth these days. I've tried to play various iterations of NBA/NHL and they don't have that simplicity of the megadrive games.

Yeah, there's definitely a market for more arcadey sports games.
Were the Mario Golf and Tennis games on Switch alright?

Was Drogba any good in 5? Because in the Japanese version it was definitely a case of 'if you feed the Drog...'. I still do commentary in my head from Winning Eleven in Japanese, like "middle shooto". Also every time I hear Konsa, the Villa player - its definitely a word they used a lot but can't place it.

I had a core group of mates of around 6 that were PES obsessed. I reckon in a five year spell 2000 - 2005 we played once a week tournaments. They were the most amazing, stressful and confrontational gaming days of my life. I did win a lot and the bragging rights were great, but the pain of losing was was definitely the worst.

Own up then; who did square balls across the 6 yard box to the annoyance of everyone else in the room?

It’s not but it’s ok, it’s on iOS as well. I had it on game gear and probably played it more than any game I’ve played in the last 12 months.

What was the Sega arcade football game that gave you a score for when you scored wonder goals? Was on the Dreamcast as well and you could save your best goals.

Nintendo World Cup on GB was the best, it seemed quite violent for a football game: youtu.be/yI-p2U0-HvA
