Microsoft Fifa exclusive incoming. I was actually thinking Sony. MLB The Show is pretty well received, and it's not above them to lock a sport to their consoles. Seeing as MLB forced them to go multiplatform, and most FIFA and PES players on PS anyway, I could see them going for the license.

What are Fifa clowning around at? Noone will pay a billion when EA still hold exclusive image rights and club licences

I mean, if you say FIFA to someone, chances are they will think of the game rather than corrupt sporting institution. They must have offered a *really* bad deal for EA to walk away from that.
RIP FUT

It was double what they normally pay, around a billion over 4 years.
I really don't think it'll even matter, it sounds like it's going to be exactly the same game but without the world cup license. I'd be surprised if people even stop calling it FIFA.

I've played about 30 Efootball games online and climbed the Dream Team divisions to Div 3. It's OK. But my main enjoyment from Pes was playing 2/3 player online MyClub with my mates so without that option it's pretty limited.
I think the defending in this is better than any other football game I've played but it would work so much better with 2v2 or 3v3. Stupid that they literally could have just released an updated version of the last one with the new defending model and it would be a better game than what took them 2 years.

There have been a few issues with the FifPro licence in recent years - it doesn't cover team names, kits, or league names - so don't be surprised if EA's game has some PES-like monikers now the protection of the FIFA licence is gone.

I don't think so, they've said they've retained all the stuff from before like player images and teams from previous games.

I'll check out FIFA at some point, but content with starting a new ML on 2021 with an updated Option file.

I've not played a good football game since FIFA 15/PES 2017 and I'd really like to. Here's hoping this leads to at least one good football game going forwards.

I tried FIFA 22 after getting it free with PS plus and my god it felt like the game was doing everything it could to actually stop you from playing a quick match. So much superfluous shit on the front end.

I gave efootball a good bash last night. The exhibition mode that allows you to play a 5 minute game with 6 different teams is now surprisingly very good and very responsive. However the actual game where you have to buy players, train them and play other players online is awful. Even with 6 bought international footballers the game is like playing in mud, with a delay on everything and players turning like drunk elephants. There is no way I'm grinding hours into that to wait until it becomes playable..

I kind of feel that my enjoyment of football games really nosedived when everything (controls/systems/tactics) began to feel completely over-engineered as they went for more and more realism. Think I probably enjoyed the early Pro Ev days, or at least the first few on PS2, more than any later installments tbh.
Shevchenko at AC was an absolute beast. Just felt fast and fluid; undoubtedly more arcadey/gamey, but playing it with mates before going out on the piss at the weekend was amazing.
Anyone remember This Is Football, where they had a dedicated 'dive' input lol

Yeah, for me it's a tie between Pro Evo 4 and 5 although the ref blew too often in 4. Like you say just before going out on the piss at uni with mates we'd have a few matches. It was always just on that line between 'this is just a friendly match' and 'I fucking hate you' as they send a through ball that completely goes through your entire defence.

It was 5 that had the problem with refs. They blew for any little foul 4 was perfect I remember scoring a few wonder goals from the half way line with Veron as the keepers would come off their line

clemfandangoYeah you're right. It's weird how your memory can blur things into one. I think I played the Japanese version of 5 first which was incredibly lenient. When we got the UK version it just ruined the flow. I think I played the ML in 4 for an entire summer when I worked at WHSmith when I was 18.

I always used to pick AC Milan for ML, and have fond memories of buying Nakata, Nedved, Zeige, Veron, Recoba, Vieri, Ortega, Davids, Seedorf, Maldini, Mihajlovic, Juninho, Zidane, Nesta, Cannavaro, Del Piero, Totti, Adriano, Ronaldinho etc. It also seemed like everybody was a free kick expert back then. We never knew we had it so good.....

I spent a good year or so modding Pro Evo 4 on my chipped Xbox. Amazing what could be done at the time, adding licenced features which we take for granted now - loads of player/kit/boot/ball skins, stacks of music, and even things like animated advertising boards and new video intros.

Was PES6 the one where Adriano was an absolute monster and could score from around 50 yards out?

PES 4 was so perfect. I remember being a right big shot in sixth form sharing out my memory card that had every kit and badge I had spent every spare hour I had recreating. Spent more time in edit mode than the bloody game by a long stretch.

4 or 6 for me as well, but probably 4.
I would love an updated version of that, with modern res and widescreen support even if there players and teams were kept as then.
