Just chiming in.
Yeah this is awful.
What's happened to the defending I struggle to even get my player to get close to the opposition half the time.
Also they have removed automatic press and auto two player press?
The delay is also really bad and the new camera is atrocious.
I couldn't even see my player taking a corner in my first game, I just had to press the button and hope for the best
Finally I'm playing on Series X and the framerate is terrible
Loads of other things too, its so bad

Man, it is shit isn't it? No weight to the players or the ball. Players skating all over the place. Animations are fucked. Cut scene integration is terrible. Loads of lag. Shit grass. Just dreadful

The online play is actually better than I expected. It's still shit and you are still having to telegraph moves well in advance, but it's not as bad as some years.
The whole thing reminds me of the transition to PS3. At least they had the grace not to charge £40 for it.

I thought the comparisons to it feeling like a mobile game were a bit of an exaggeration but holllly fuck does it feel like a mobile game. The AI is one of the big offenders for me, AI defenders stand around with a loose ball not chasing it down, makes it easy to score. Even the act of scoring in this game is awful, hold the button down and it feels like forever and however they programmed it for the controller, it just doesn't feel good when the ball's hit? Like actively unpleasant and doesn't feel good. Collision system is fucking abysmal, two players go for the ball and it practically skates along the pitch away from the players going for it standing stifly like two dolls. Did they even remove the ability to call in a teammate to press the ball too? It's usually X and square, but I swear I never saw it working in this.
Some things to work on then for sure, but when the foundations are already shaky, how much improvement can you do? Definitely has issues anyway as Twitter is all about showing, here's a bad one I saw:

Yeah, I have to agree. I have it a go a minute ago and it's absolutely awful. I know it's free to play but you can really tell they as a company do not give a shit and are no doubt focused on the mobile version for its ability to make cash. You can give FIFA all the shit but at least there's still fundamentally a game of football under there that works most of the time.

I bought the last one cheap when pes looked like a mobile game to see what it's like. It was abysmal. You could just dribble past everyone at full pelt.

I made the mistake of buying FIFA 21 early on after the PS5 launched and I couldn't even finish half a season in career mode. It's popularity absolutely baffles me as it's just total horse shit to me.
That being said, I could probably count on one hand the amount of console games of any genre in my life that are worse than this one. I don't even have to have played FIFA 22 to know it's better than this tripe. If it came to you in a blank box you'd think it's shovelware.

Fifa 21 was garbage and I bounced hard off it. That’s after 6 straight years of putting in 300+ hours on each iteration, in 2v2 mode.
Me and my mate were absolute ‘pro’ at 2v2, but Fifa 21 was horrific. 20 wasn’t great either, it’s been a slippery slop.
Downloaded PES and will try later.

*None playing, as it were, are discounted eg. Football manager and the like.
Considering the size of the market even a small player would stand to make a lot. I'd even go as far as to say a good football game could steal a sizeable chunk of it. So why is there no clamour to at least try??

I've mentioned DLS21 a couple of times as a great example of free mobile football gaming. Very simple but fun gameplay, excellent presentation throughout, and the online connection is flawless. Nice to sit down with my 5yo and be able to set up a h2h game against him within 10 seconds.
