out of curiosity, wonder if the agricultural licencing exclusions for >3.5t equipment on the road are only applicable for, you know, agricultural work and not for taking a unimog to farage's farmer cosplay

He wasn't expecting to be hit with that one, look at him turning to the crowd for support.

The BBC should clone Victoria Derbyshire, they need more journalists like her.

"Where did you get that figure from?"

I scrolled to the comments section on the YT video of Clarkson-Derbyshire. Absolute binfire, sigh.
Usual press parroting that Clarkson pwned Derbyshire, and yet if you actually watch the video it's him just trumpeting hollow comebacks and dog-whistling about civil servants and the BBC whilst the mob around him are slavishly lapping up every comment he makes. Urgh.

I mean, what did the BBC ever do for Clarkson?

It is impressive the broad range of support that the farmers seem to have received yesterday. You had Ed Davey alongside Nigel Farage next to Just Stop Oil high fiving Jeremy Clarkson.
Yet, I can't imagine there being much support from the general public. Funnily enough, a glance on YouGov website doesn't seem to give me any polling on this (closest was whether you would support them striking, with results across all 5 responses being fairly even). You would think it would be a good thing to gauge public opinion on, with the amount of time it is taking up in the media.
If I were to guess, there might be some general anti-inheritance tax people who just oppose anything related to it. There will also be a group that just oppose it because it is Labour and they will oppose "free kittens for everyone" if it was a Labour policy. I would have thought most people are indifferent to the policy and that the fact that the media have latched onto this one suggests that there wasn't much they could really rip into out of the budget. I would have thought the NI change would have been more relatable to people, but guess that wasn't getting the traction.

There does seem to be the green shoots of people starting to see through clearly bent motives recently.

The coalition of protest here is fascinating.
Of course Clarkson and Farage are in favour of never being taxed for anything.
I assume Ed Davey is just being a bit of an opportunist trying to support a headline worthy cause and steal any Tory thunder in those rural Lib/Con marginals you have in the south.
I’m not sure what dog Just Stop Oil have in the fight. I’d have assumed they were anti industrial agriculture and generally in favour of anything looks like class war. Although I suppose a lot of their activists are very posh so maybe they’re in line for some inheritance themselves.

My word, this Alex Burghart really is very shouty and angry. Only listening to it, but sounds like he is constantly thumping the dispatch box too.

they would protest at the opening of crisp packet
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they are being funded by Russia or china to stir up shit

ChatGPT reckons it boils down to: Which of course has nothing to do with inheritance taxes on higher value farms. So I'm still not sure why they're there.

Yeah, it is kind of baffling them trying to tag along with it (same with Greenpeace). Most of the farming that is going to be hit by this (although certainly not all) will be the type of farming that they would very much object to.
I suppose there potentially could be an argument that owners of medium amounts of land might end up having to sell to large organisations and that would possibly be worse for the climate. But, you then just come back to the real target needing to be addressing why moderate amounts of farmland isn't returning enough profit to pay half the amount of inheritance tax that other businesses have to pay.

Sounds like we should just nationalise all farms. Its the only way to be sure.

I assume Just Stop Oil protesters laid down in front of the polluting tractors and abused the cow farmers for destroying the planet.
Either that or threw paint over some painting for unknown reasons.
The cause may be good but they’re a bunch of dumb cunts.

Single issue protestors often make very strange decisions and alliances. They really, really, really do. Yeah our Corbyn supported councillor candidate was congratulating Trump the other week, something to do with Harris personally being a war criminal with regards to Gaza... Just insane.
