Very good analysis of the (IMO) greatest ever. He also does a good analysis of Sonic.
Did anybody ever have Ghouls & Ghosts on the C64? I remember that being really evocative.

Looked it up. Groundbreaking stuff to get out of the diminutive power of a Commodore. A great core memory unlocked!

Looked it up. Groundbreaking stuff to get out of the diminutive power of a Commodore. A great core memory unlocked! I remember buying it from a game shop in Inverness when on holiday and playing it back home (East Yorkshire). It was brutally hard and I wanted to return it. Dad basically gave me the 80s equivalent of the 'get gud' response....

New Zealand Story was the tits. It really was lovely. Three classics from Taito in that era, NZ, Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands. I distinctly remember the day after getting NZ Story, being dragged away to go to a school fundraising fair and being gutted. But then I got to water bomb a teacher, and used my spends to buy a Boba Fett and whatever the Jabba Pig Men are called toy, a Centurions annual, and the Marvel adaptation of Return of the Jedi which I read again and again (wish I still had this). Then got home and played NZ Story again. It’s like it was yesterday, what a weekend! Being a kid before the horrors of high school was the sh#t man. Great days. Sorry for the derail!

Has this been mentioned?
Always amazed at what some of the teams got out of the N64 considering the lack of a sound chip.

Strider may be a pretty by the numbers metroidvania, but the boss theme is amazing in a modern but old chiptune kind of way.

Has this been mentioned? Always amazed at what some of the teams got out of the N64 considering the lack of a sound chip. I've always enjoyed the Blast Corps soundtrack, well, excepting that one twingy-twangy Country style track that sounds like something the Dukes of Hazard would have playing on the General Lee's cassette player whilst cruising a deserted highway for a lone hitchhiker to pick up and leave in a shallow grave somewhere in the roadside scrub amidst crushed beer cans and shards of glass.

Spent bloody ages trying to remember the name of this game. Had only a vague memory of an Italian Job style bus hanging over a cliff in one level to go on.

In an effort to revitalise this thread a bit, I'm starting something I very imaginatively call Tune Tuesday! I'll post a few tracks from a game I like and, uh... We'll see how many weeks (or days, if I end up making this a more frequent thing) it takes me to double up on a game I guess! (cases of me discovering new tracks from a game I'm currently playing notwithstanding)
Today's feature: Octopath Traveler 2! (warning, the videos contain minor early game spoilers)
My favourite field theme from the ones I've visited so far: Winterlands (Day/Night). Wonderfully relaxing and melancholic at the same time, and perfect for the character whose path begins there, Osvald.
And, to the surprise of no one that's played the game, Critical Clash II, one of two chapter boss themes. In many other games, this could easily be, if not the final boss' theme then at least one heard during pivotal, climactic battles in the story. Here? You can hear it as early as some characters' first chapters, barely a couple hours in depending on who you start with (such as the aforementioned Osvald)

Great, it took me all of one week to forget to continue this... *facepalm* Well, it's still Tuesday somewhere on Earth, right? (I'll make a second one this week I think, and this one is extra big too) Anyway, today's menu has some of the Elden Ring DLC tracks that you're usually too busy trying to avoid getting your shit wrecked to pay attention to! Of course I urge you to check out the full soundtrack (track names in the timestamps, so no spoilers unless you look for them) in this video, but for a few of my personal favourites (unlike the full OST video, here there be spoilers!)... Divine Beast Dancing LionLeave it to FromSoft to hide one of the best tracks behind a boss that's possibly entirely optional (AFAIK you're not actually required to go to Belurat for anything, you get to Enir-Ilim through a warp anyway)! A banger through and through, only enhanced by the fact that the boss changes elements and attack patterns to match it, a true Lion Dance! Too bad you're usually too busy fighting the camera to appreciate it... Rellana, the Twin Moon Knight
So, you liked Dark Souls 3 and Pontiff Sulyvahn, did you? Well, this fight and theme are Carian on the legacy! (dodges tomatoes) Shout-out to Renalla's leitmotif making an appearance, and to Rellana's swords for being one of the most entertaining weapons I've had the pleasure of wielding in a Souls game. Dancer of the Boreal Valley would be proud. Messmer, the Impaler
"Those stripped of the Grace of Gold shall all meet death... In the embrace of Messmer's flame". Aka the sequel to "I am Malenia, Blade of Miquella". A climactic song for the climax boss of the DLC... And to be honest, if the map didn't spoil there's more, you could easily think he was the end. Romina, Saint of the Bud
Not much to say here, an almost strangely melancholic piece with a haunting choir. There's a few bosses in the DLC that maybe deserved a cutscene and a few more details of how they came to be, and I'd say she's one of them. By the way, did you happen to catch the callback to Malenia's theme? The Rot connects more than you'd think... Bayle the Dread
CUUUURSE YOUUUU, BAAAYYYYLLE!!!
Ahem. Sorry to say, if you didn't use the summon in this fight, you played it wrong. The theme doesn't disappoint either! Fun fact: Placidusax and this guy tore each other up in the past! You can still see Placi's missing heads on Bayle's body, and he took Bayle's missing limbs in exchange. Imagine fighting them at full strength... brrr... (Btw, if you don't agree that Igon's dialogue enhances the theme, the full OST video has the dialogue-less version) Enir-Ilim
What is there to say about this one? Possibly the most stunning Soulslike dungeon since Anor Londo, with the theme to match. Did you find the path to Euporia on your own? Those United In Common Cause
Honestly, this, Divine Beast Dancing Lion and the last track coming up are the main reasons I'm making this post in the first place. If you don't care about the NPCs, this is still a stunning piece. If you do, it's downright tragic. Probably the best NPC fight FromSoft's come up with, and the possibility of it being a 5v5 (You, Ansbach, Thiollier and Jolan and Anna as Spirit Ashes, versus Leda, Hornsent, Freyja, Moore and Dane) is delicious. Promised Consort Radahn/Radahn, Consort of Miquella
So, you liked Dark Souls 3 and the Twin Princes, did y- sorry, I'll stop. Say what you will about the gameplay of this boss, but the reprise of Radahn's theme from the main game is triumphant, and Ansbach's dialogue, should you summon him, only adds to the epicness. Just, you know, maybe don't think "wow, I wonder how strong this being would be in their prime!" next time (he says, having done exactly that with Bayle and Placidusax just above...) And last but not least... The Shaman Village
You never need to visit this area. There's nothing there beyond a couple pickups, and even the music is just a minimalistic reprise of some notes from the main theme. And yet, that's all it needs. Before the events of the game, before the Shattering, before even the advent of the Greater Will and all other Outer Gods, there was a small, peaceful village... And a girl that would become its only survivor. A girl... named Marika. "What was her prayer? Her wish, her confession? There is no one left to answer, and Marika never returned home again."

It's never full soundtracks but I will listen to random shit from some games. For example I like the music from Factorios main screen
The vending machine music from Atomic Heart EDIT Updated to the video with the 4 versions
Its probably already been posted but Streets of Rage 2 was ace
There are quite a few from Cyberpunk that I like as well especially the ones that came from edge runners.

From King Arthur - Knight's Tale. It's mostly quite melancholic and supports the atmosphere very well.

Rob Hubbard had 11k to play with when composing the soundtrack to commando.
