He's gone. The whole thing was an utter farce from start to finish, but this is the right result. We don't need anti-vax people at the Open. Su-fucking-perb.

I'm pretty ignorant of the AU legal system other than being vaguely aware that it is modelled on the Uk - but I do wonder what sort of precedents could be set for the unfortunate fuckers detained on Narau* if he succeeds. Maybe some good might ultimately come out of that with a couple of motivated and smart lawyers onside
*I'm using Narau as a catch all for.. that stuff

There are refugees that have been kept in hotel detention for 8+ years, and with a flick of the pen the Immigration Minister could release them, deport them, or send them to a third country (eg. New Zealand) that's actually willing to abide by the Refugee Convention that we both fucking signed. But he won't, because of the "precedent" it would set for others hoping to come to Australia. As if locking people up for the better part of a decade isn't precedent enough in itself. :/

Ugh.
Surely your foreign office equivalent can just tweet constant gifs of your less cuddly wildlife (thinking Huntsman Spiders, personally). How is keeping people confined to hotels any less expensive than allowing them to work and contribute to the wider...
Uhh nevermind. I'm English and ashamed of it. I get it.

Watched a bit of Murray and one of the commentators sounds like Murray from Flight of the Conchords.

Al the Murray The pub landlord?
If this turns out to have scuppered his record 21st major he's gonna end up regretting not just getting a vaccination like everyone else.

Yeah, but 20 years later... *why the fuck didn't i just get a vaccination?!* I'm doubtful. He would the need the necessary introspection to be aware of his vast arrogance and narcism and rejection of anything that doesn't follow his way of thinking as bad energy. I don't think he possesses the necessary skills for that.

It's official now. Novak + novax = no-visa
The anti vax people will probably be annoyed at him getting deported. But that's better than him staying and everyone else being annoyed too.

I don't think he possesses the necessary skills for that. Respect is most definitely the wrong word to be using, but... I kind of sort of respect how committed he is to this. Like, the glory of being officially the best tennis player ever, all the money, the popularity, none of it matters. He'll give it all up because of how much he believes in this bullshit. He really genuinely believes that the vaccine will be bad for his body, or his chakra or whatever the fuck. He's still a giant prick. But god damn, guy really sticks to his guns.

Kudos to Australia. I’d reward them by emigrating there, but I don’t think they’ll see value in me.

Are the spiders really as bad as I keep hearing?
Also, I think your country of origin has a big bearing on that and mine is not one of the top ones.

There's only a couple of spiders big enough to eat you, don't worry.

Have to admit that I went into "terrified that every single one I saw would leap onto my face and eat me" mode as I couldn't tell them apart and wasn't going to pick them up to check against the pictures in the guide book.

TBH, the thing I’m worried most is waking up in my bed with a huge spider on my face.

In all seriousness, I think the funnel web spider is the only really dangerous one, and I've never seen one. Seen a few redbacks, but it's pretty rare to die to a bite from one of those.
Snakes, though... quite a few bad ones here.
