Another vote for the drake sword from me, and acquiring it also teaches a valuable lesson about cheesing tactics
(The lesson is that they’re good and totally valid rather than banging against a tough enemy)

Drake sword is incredibly easy to get if you take the path that runs below the bridge. You can cheese it by shooting the Dragon's tail manual aiming with a shortbow until you get the sword. Literally zero danger!

Thing is, is a bit pointless. Early game is where you learn how to play. Drake sword is just OP up to a point then useless.

Ah feck now I want to play this. Haha I just reinstalled the remaster. You know, just to see where I’d left my save because I couldn’t remember. Answer- in Undead Asylum first bonfire, NG+, wielding Uchi and a shield. But I might ditch the shield and try 2-handing and dodge-rolling everything, I got used to doing that in Elden Ring. |

This whole area is less about combat and more about figuring out the most effective way of getting the enemies stuck on the scenery.

Just fell down a hole in the dark to my death in the Tomb of Gods or some shit. Fortunately I warped back to the bonfire after killing Pinwheel to cash in those sweet souls. Devs are fking trolls.

Someone tell me there's a fucking torch in this game and I've just not found it yet... The good news is that technically there are a couple. Not torches per se, but items that light up your surroundings. The bad news is that one of them you can't get to yet, the second is a spell you may or may not be able to use (and I don't know if you can get it yet either) and the third is actually right inside the Tomb of the Giants, somewhere near the first bonfire. |

You'll hit a road block in the Tomb of Giants that you can't progress past until late game anyway so feel free to fuck it off until later

Only scrubs use a light source in tomb of giants. Real men traipse forward step by step and fall to their death a thousand times until they have memorized the whole area and can play it with the screen off.

Done with Catacombs for now I think. Back to castle and woods.

If you haven’t gone fully through Undead Burg yet, I just remembered the Demon’s Greataxe, which sometimes drops from a boss, is another great early-game weapon if you’re levelling Strength.
(And mid-game, and late game. Demons Greataxe + STR build FTW)
Edit- there’s already been bitching about the blacksmith’s incessant pounding so I guess this opportunity is long gone

It involves a bit of a rescue effort and some back tracking to to the last Homely House, but that will still be beyter than a restart it Black Knight Halberd dude kills himself (occasionally requires some shoe leather as encouragement) now? There's a camera option that you should absolutely toggle off, it auto corrects the angle and causes deaths on narrow ledges |
