Simple Minds. Absolutely terrific. 10 min+ version of Don't You Forget About Me was epic. Now waiting for Green Day. The boy and his mates have bundled forward, which he'll love but has terrified his mum. He also did some ridiculous ride which he nearly passed out on and said was far more extreme than the Maglevs he's done.

squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... .....go my ears. Back from the FF gig at the London Stadium and it was loud! Hot Milk were....energetic! Being the first band on is probably a tough slot at the best of times, but they gave it everything. Not really my cup of tea mid-afternoon, but they were alright. Courtney Barnett did a longer set and I'd like to see her again at a smaller venue. I love her lyrics and songs, and she got the place grooving along nicely. FF did a long set with only a small break before the finale and bloody hell they work hard for that slot. I was knackered just being in the crowd, they looked shattered by the end of it! Moved a few times and ended up on the edge of the crowd by the right screen and it was weirdly empty of people so we ended up about 10 metres away from Dave so that was great. Couple of knobbers with their backs to the stage having a chat though the whole set like they were at a coffee morning. Jesus wept. Why'd you buy the ticket? One girl was dancing on all fours like a weird Half Life face crab and the security guys got her safe. God knows what she'd taken, but she was holding the floor like it was a ceiling. Glad I went and equally glad I got a hotel nearby to crash and have a proper breakfast before heading home. Yeah I was there as well. Great show but as you say some of the crowd are a bit strange. I guess that is to be expected at such a big show. A group of people near us had strong only gig of the year energy and spent more time take photos of each other for their socials and chatting than enjoying the music. I saw some of Dave’s comments about Taylor Swift have been clipped out of context and are generating a lot of hate against him online. Predictable but still depressing.

Few things rile me up more than people at a gig who can’t shut the f*ck up (as far as chatting/laughing/generally being a c*nt is concerned) and enjoy the bloody music. It’s music ffs… listen to what you are f*cling paying for or f*ck off down the pub or wherever you and your ignorent bunch hang out.

That clip of Prodigy doing Omen from IOW was pretty intense. No one hits quite like they do.
First time I saw them at Leeds yonks ago is one of the best sets I’ve seen at a festival.

Green Day were every bit as good as I'd hoped. 2 hours of nonstop bangers. Exceptional band to close.
(Sorry, get a blog etc...this sleepy old place doesn't get much excitement and I've not been for 10 years due to money/kids etc)

The hot topic of the weekend on the socials was about camping chairs and picnic blankets. It's a long standing tradition that these are allowed in the main arena and make it a very relaxed vibe, enables those who can't stand for long/get up off the floor etc to attend. But some people get quite het up about it, especially if not in rows to make it easier to get around etc. Not helped by the fact that a) the main pathway is quite narrow and b) some people get annoyed if others hop across their blankets etc.
Just wondered what other festivals are like - same issue?

The Breeders - The Garage (London)
The first night of a short UK/EU tour, an extra date added to the schedule late notice. I already had tickets for them on Tuesday, but that was at the Troxy which is massive in comparison. Couldn't turn down the chance to see them in a small room (600 cap) and it was the right decision!
It was a packed show, but there were only about 4 or 5 rows of people in front of us, so we were right up close to the band.
I'm a big fan, not just of their catalogue, but their attitude and approach to both life and music. I could watch Kim and Kelley chat all day - they're just so endearing - and there was some great Deal banter between most of the tracks, sometimes with the audience, sometimes each other, sometimes both.
This is a delayed 30th anniversary Last Splash tour, and they played most of the album, and then a mix of tracks from all the other albums including a good handful from Pod. They also played one new track!
For the most part they were really tight, and the sound was great.
They had a bit of a cock-up playing Night of Joy, but they said it was the first time they had played it together (that was from a time when Josephine and Jim weren't in the lineup - yet it was Kim and Kelley mucking it up) but it broke down in smiles and laughter, a little bit of exploration, and then they were off again - and it was glorious to hear.
The crowd was really good (generally older but there were a good handful of younger fans too). The first track of the encore was Walking With a Killer - you could have heard a pin drop, no chatter at all!
Overall it was a fantastic near 2hrs. They played a really good set, and seemed to be enjoying it all as much as the crowd.
I'm a bit gutted I sold the tickets for tomorrow now (chances of the England match being more entertaining are practically 0) and hope they come back to town soon - this was the first time in the UK in 6 years, and they are in their 60s now so may start slowing down (not that they showed any signs of that) - but the memory will keep me going for a while.

Ooooh! Potentially going to see Future Islands as a birthday treat next month.
Have to wonder wtf my missus will think when the lead singer goes into his full on possessed by Beelzebub mode. Definitely going to avoid spoiling that if I can:D

I’ve no bother with it. You even see it at festivals with younger, grottier audiences like Reading and Download so its not like having a chill is exclusive to more family friendly festivals. I suppose the main difference is they won’t end up as fuel on a probably toxic fumed bonfire at the end of IOW the way they would at Leeds

He did say not to fuck with the Swifties! Getting to and from the Stadium was a bit of a bear, I’ve gotta say. My first time at the venue and a real walk and a half it was. Barnett is doing The Garage this week - thought it looked an interesting venue, but 🤷♂️ dunno what it’s like.

Pearl Jam have cancelled the gig at Tottenham tomorrow. I'm fucking devastated. Yeah that's brutal... I gather Eddie struggled to get through the gig in Manchester on Tuesday. We had the same happen to us a few years back, they cancelled their show in London in 2018 due to Eddie losing his voice. If it's any consolation, they rescheduled for later in the year and put on a great fucking show, I hope you get the same.

Kinda tempted to try and get Last Dinner Party tickets. Don't know them that well, but they seem like they'd have good live energy. On the other hand, I've probably spent too much on tickets recently. Good bands come here so rarely though. If I get them then someone I want to see more will announce, and if I don't then no-one good will come for the next 2 years.

Green Day at Wembley on Saturday.
Absolutely mental number of people there and the sound system at Wembley isn't great as it's just not very clear.
However it was still brilliant. 2.5 hours of non stop music from them including the whole of Dookie and American Idiot. Billie was on top form and at the end just stopped and listened to the reaction from the crowd for a good while.
The girl he got up on stage to sing gave it a good go but she wasn't too good at crowd surfing. Rather than diving in she jumped in feet first, I reckon someone got clocked nicely by her!
Green Day are one band I will always try and get tickets for whenever I can as it's always a great day out and you never know when it will be the last time.
Good Riddance to end the evening as well, one of my favourite songs ever.
Next up Rise Against at Shepherds Bush in August.

We've got another gig at the Golden Lion in Todmorden on Friday 26th July. Its only a 35 min support act for the headlining band but I've heard good things about this venue. Be good to check it out and see what it's like and what the people and other bands are like too.

Suede & Manic Street Preachers - Eden Project
Very good double header! As not a big Manics fan and having not heard them live for quite a few years went in with low expectations and they were great! Very much a greatest hits set with JDB’s voice still going strong and crowd were lapping it up.
Suede I’ve loved for years and again they did not disappoint. Set still tailored to latest album (which is a good one so no issues there) with a smattering of the big hits. They still give it 100% and can’t help but love them for it.
Very definition of a solid 8/10 both bands matching each other for pure class and effort.

Getting a lot of gig envy between them, that Eden Project show and how on form Thursday look in all my friends Instagram stories reliving their/our mid-00s emo phase.
