My only two shows by national/international sized acts so far this year have been Sunn O))) and Angels of the North (the three North Eastern queens from last year’s series of Drag Race UK).
Other than that its all been local or diy acts playing to 200 people or less mostly booked by my friends.
Watching the Reading highlights has made me realise I’m fully beyond the point of knowing who all these new acts the kids like are anymore. Prodigy tore it up like no one else from what I’ve seen so far.

I felt like I was doing a pretty good job keeping up, until I looked at the Reading/Leeds section on iPlayer and didn't know anyone!
I'm sure I knew most of them last year!
PS/ 20th anniversary of Transatlanticism has made me feel old again.

I was never a Death Cab guy but watching the videos my friends have uploaded of Postal Service did make me wish there’d been a show close enough for me to get too.

Death Cab and the Postal Service double header last night at All Points East. 20th anniversary of Transatlantacism and Give up. Both albums played in their entirety. Both still slap! Great time. Very jealous of that, how long did they play Transatlanticism for?

Mrs pushing hard on this Oasis thing. They will be playing round the corner too if the Heaton Park rumours are true. Watching Liam at Reading and just seeing wall to wall 17 year olds. It’s really quite remarkable and I don’t think I can think of any other rock artist in memory that has done that. But I don’t know if I wanna be in that crowd but I also never saw Oasis and resent them seeing my music 🤣

I dunno man, Blink 182 were headlining one of the other nights and their fanbase is exclusively children and 40 yr olds.

I’m up for an Oasis reunion (and will go if I can get tickets) but then it goes against everything Noel has said against it for years for which tbh I’d rather they stayed split and making the best of their own careers. Noel is by far the better new career artist of the two brothers for me so I’d rather he just put out more NGHFB albums…
Maybe he’s just seen the sort of money people are paying for gigs atm (which is obscene) and though ok I’ll take £200+ a ticket if that’s what people are willing to pay now!

Lovely article from the Guardian about what made Oasis so special at their peak. I obsessed over the band during the early/mid 90s, and would kill to get tickets to the reunion tour if I wasn't living the other side of the world. Even though my music tastes have since moved on many times over, those first two albums will always bring me back to my youth and give me a buzz of energy and excitement.

Kind of passed me by, I was going to raves and taking copies amounts of random chemicals when they were first on the scene.
Didn't have any time for their sort and Liam is such a bellend that even if I did like them I wouldn't want him to have a penny of my money (not that he needs it)

I was an Oasis fan from their first album and out of some dumb loyalty still continued to buy each of their subsequent records as they were released. They’ve been in the loft for quite a few years though
Did see them live in Manchester once and thought they were pretty poor as Liam could barely sing, he’d cut off every line early because his vocal chords were knackered
Not interested in actually attending a comeback gig but despite that I’m super invested in the whole story of it, hopefully they are filming everything that goes on and will release a documentary at a later date

Went to All Points East on Friday, LCD Soundsystem headlining but for me Pixies were the draw. As always, they were excellent and focussed mainly on the classics (including both versions of Wave of Mutilation). It was the first time I'd seen them since Emma joined on bass, and she brought plenty of energy and fits in well. I'm less of a fan of the last few albums, but they always put on a great show and I will be going to see them as long as they are playing.
Off to End of the Road on Thursday, so hopefully will get to see some new bands I don't know.
As for Oasis. I was a student in Manchester 94-98 but just never got into them. Was far more interested in DnB at the time so didn't get swept up in the mania and looking back, whilst they have some OK tracks, they really aren't anything special (IMO) and it doesn't help that the brothers (especially Liam) are massive twats. Saw them headline Glastonbury in 2004 and it didn't change my mind.

Only time I've seen the Pixies (with Kim too), I was disappointed. I wasn't in amongst it though and suspect that impacted.
Oasis - agree, by and large. I listen to them a lot (largely as Absolute Radio and my music algo aee obsessed) and have seen them both individually before. Dislike them both as people but like some of their stuff. Would see them if on my doorstep but won't go out of my way.

It was a long time ago, but I seem to remember that when I saw The Pixies their voices weren't holding up that well. But it didn't really matter that much because I was just happy to see them live and jump around to some of the classic tunes.

You’ve all got the wrong brother as the tw*t. Back then fair enough but now Liam comes across as a pretty zen guy in interviews and Noel is totally reactionary, probably quasi Tory and hates the young. That’s shown I think in the music he makes tbh, and he’s said that Oasis sounds like heavy metal to him now. That said he still knows how to write a pretty song, I just find HFB very milquetoast.
Apparently everybody in my daughter’s peer group (13) is intent on going. None of them listen to Oasis.
I’m cautiously excited. I think the concert (if I get there) will be amazing but the crowd will be ‘orrible.

Oh crikey. Ocean Colour Scene at Belladrum festival. Just like when I saw them a couple of weeks ago - Oscar solid as always on the drums, hired hands on bass and keys absolutely fine, Steve Craddock a perfectly tasteful guitarist holding it all together. But Simon Fowler has lost a LOT of his vocals and now I can hear it pro-mixed, I don’t think it’s just a monitoring situation. He was truly great in his youth and was very, very good as close as last December, but I almost feel sorry for him here. Sounds like he might need some vocal nodes lasering out at times. Such a shame with the excellently played music behind him. Hope he can get it back.

Will probably be trying to get Oasis tickets. Was always more Team Blur, but I like Oasis enough and it will be a bit of an event.
Agree that the crowd will likely be a bit rubbish. Wasn't great at Blur last year either, although I expect that was because I got the extra Sunday Wembley date rather than the Saturday.

What’s the demographic and behaviour like at a Blur concert these days? I do find in general that people’s behaviour at gigs is getting worse and worse - Hozier was the last one where people didn’t piss me off and that was ages ago. And you’d expect that of Hozier. Having said that, he was loud as f*ck, which surprised me. I wonder whether a lot of the stuff where you now get pissed off at people treating it like being at Wetherspoon and talking/shouting over gigs is because of a modern drive to reduce volume.

It's definitely a factor of why bands want to be so loud now. I went to a gig a couple years back where the levels for the support were so low it allowed everyone to try to talk over it and gradually got louder and louder until it was rage inducing.

I wonder whether a lot of the stuff where you now get pissed off at people treating it like being at Wetherspoon and talking/shouting over gigs is because of a modern drive to reduce volume. It wasn't that bad in terms of behaviour. There were a few leading big mosh circles, shoving everyone back to make it. Not really that big of a deal (particularly as the mosh pits themselves were mostly dads trying to prove themselves, so weren't really that rough), but not really something you expect with pop rock gigs. More it was that I don't think the crowd were massively into Blur. Not much singing along, outside of the big songs and people not really getting into it. I expect that they only really could fill Wembley one and a bit times, so there were bunch given away cheaper for that second day. It was kind a contrast with the Pulp gig I saw just the week before.
